I really don't understand this mom. Ive followed the nest since hatching and what she does is eat and occasionally gives a bite or two to the baby. I also don't understand why she shoves the food so violently in his beak? Now it's getting not so bad because the baby is 6 days old ( born June 14) and a bit bigger, but I've seen her several times shove the food so hard in his beak that he toopled over. This little osplet screams for food at every feeding and mom sometimes eats and waits several minutes before even acknowledging him. In the first days it also often happened that she would eat and not feed him at all even whilst he was begging with all his might. At some point the I've seen the osplet begging and screaming in the direction opposite the mom, as he doesn't identify her with food/feeding. I've watched the Captiva ospreys and a few other nests and haven't seen this kind of behavior before. Is she a new mom? There is no chat on the livestream and the link to the website is only in Norwegian and i can't find an option to change the language. I want to understand what is happening with the behaviour of this mom towards her osplet. And the poor thing is an only child, there shouldn't be any issues caring and feeding him. I'm so sad to see him having such a mom 😢

Yes, you are right, this is a rare case of such a mother, I think that when the baby grows up, the female will feed as needed. I observe a lot of nests and I have seen such behavior, the beginnings were difficult, but over time the mothers fed better. Thank you for watching and commenting. Best regards. ;)))

@@EdithP Well I'm relieved to know I'm not the only one who sees something weird happening. I've only been watching ospreys since last year, so my observation knowledge is limited but this example in this nest was out of the ordinary. I hope everything turns out ok for the osplet and parents. I'm really cheering for this little guy!
