The first of something is always extremely expensive. Gotta get value from the R&D with the patent. FWIW, it seems to be exceptionally accurate from accounts I've heard.
ARES looks a bit like HK21. Also there are rifles like Henry long ranger and Browning LAR that shoot traditional spritzer cartridges and yet are lever action. They do look similar to the one in the game all be it they have box magazines and not the tube one. I wonder how French Lebel rifle got around the issue
The lebel got around it by having ammunition in a triangular shape the whole length down so when they lay flat the tip of the bullet would rest at the bottom of of the next bullets casing
Spectre is literally a SIG MPX with a MP5 front end and charging handle. The Sheriff is a bit like the Chiappa Rhino with a Taurus Raging Hunter barrel. If one observers enough it's easy to see from where the weapons take their design features.
The French redesigned the 8mm Lebel to have sort of a ring shaped dent around the primer, so the bullet tip of the cartridge behind stick to the dent not the primer, this works as the 8mm Lebel is a very tapered cartridge.
Yes, perhaps if he was more familiar with lever action rifles, he would have noticed that there was not a tube magazine running underneath the barrel, so it was an internal box magazine, and using pointed tip cartridges would not be an issue.

There's some definite Deagle influence in the Ghost. But the back half, especially the angle of the grip, also remind me of a .22 sporting pistol, like a Colt Woodsman or a Browning Buckmark. And it seems to be ejecting quite small shell casings, which would be in line with that.

7:55 the rounds are in the carrier like that for loading purposes. the round that is pulled down goes directly in the chamber and the other rounds go in the tube magazine.
1:33 I think that's meant to be a polymerized Ultimax 100. That gun can be fired quite easily from the shoulder in full auto due to it's constant recoil system.
As othias has pointed out numerous times: spitzer bullets in tube mags rarely lead to chain detonations. Especially if the round is rimmed (can't see if it is in this case) because the angle in which the bullet rests usually points it downwards. Add hard primers to that and it's basically a nonexistent issue

I just realized the shells on the side of the Bucky disappears depending on how much ammo you have, such a small detail that’s so cool when you notice it
That one pistol that has the desert eagle barrel looks to have a Hudson H9 grip/frame, and the lever action looks like a Winchester Wildcat 22lr with a lever loop stuck on it. The AK thing at the end looks more like a Galil Ace than anything, which Jonathan made a light comparison despite having 90% a matching silouette.

However, I suspect that would also require some sort of case adjustment in order to move the projectile tip away from the primer of the cartridge loaded in front of it.
Both of bucky's firing type can be done at any ranges. Usually the single pellet is used for long range and the alternate fire with multiple pellets are for short range, like a normal shot gun.
Here's an idea: guns of the Receiver series! Not only are they all real guns, but they're so detailed and functional that I think Jonathan could really nerd out over them.
The Laugo Alien has a similar sight design to the Ghost, in that the rear sight does not move as the slide reciprocates. On the Alien the sides of the slide reciprocates but the upper portion with the sight/optic is non-reciprocating. Allows the shooter easier ability to stay on/acquire targets between shots.
Right. The S&W Victory pistol line also has a similar sighting arrangement. Buck Mark pistol as well. Both are .22 target guns. In fact a decent amount of .22 target pistols are similar in design now that I think about it. The Alien is a somewhat rare one for center fire though.
opening up the sight makes it prone to mechanical failure but it would help it protect the projecting lens and possibly prevent going off 0 zero depending on how the projector works anyway, would love to see him talk about some gears of war guns especially since they are all so very short ranged in their effectiveness
speaking of the shotgun with the shell carrier, in The Darkness 2, the shotgun holder is actually used when youre running out of shells, it is the only game i can think of that does depict this
I’ve always thought the ghost is vaguely similar to the 10mm pistol from the fallout series. Both have the big ol’ desert eagle slide with some chunk at the bottom that bears a resemble to the H&K MK23
for info, the Ghost (the silenced pistol) is based on its CSGO equivalent, the USP45 with a silencer attached to it, which is the real life gun.The Desert Eagle inspired both the Deagle from cs and the Sheriff from val
looking at the silhouette of the phantom I get instant reminders of a specific firearm called Beretta Cx4 Storm, especially the chassis towards the barrel
“Highly cosmetic safety on top of the action”…. Mossberg pattern shotguns must not make their way across the pond much me thinks….. 😅 Just teasing, Jonathan! Thanks for all you do!
the ghost is like the hybrid of Mauser C96 and USP-45 the visual looks like mauser meanwhile the mechanic and the suppressor reminds me of the usp, pretty amazing that they were able to implement a memorable gun
For this one, I think it may have been relevant to note which Counter Strike gun each Valorant gun is based on (as Valorant very closely emulates most of the CS weapons). The lever action is the Steyr Scout The suppressed pistol is the USP The Operator is the AWM (famously misnamed in CS as the AWP...get it? awp ->op (operator) Vandal is the AK etc etc. It's notable in this context especially in how the Valorant weapons were visually differentiated while keeping similar game mechanics (for example, using a lever action instead of the steyr scout to make it look and feel more distinct from the AWM/operator)
Seeing him react to the weapons from deep rock galactic would be interesting I've found their designs to be quite realistic for the universe they are set in, and they even do have some hints towards actual weapons like M1000 being a futuristic version of garand
First gun, the Lmg, seems to be modeled after a lengthened Swiss arms or Sig 552/556 with Sligh variations. Stock and forend shape, receiver shape, even the drum style sights.
I think one issue with the concept of holographic sights that would potentially make them somewhat unlikely to ever be implemented is the matter of lighting. I reckon that they might be rather difficult to see in bright daylight on one hand (after all, it is basically a bit like a three-dimensional projector and there's a reason the lights in a room usually get dimmed if someone uses a projector) and at the same time, it might be a bit too conspicuous in the dark. Plus, they'll need some kind of power source. Ironsights are just physical objects that you can use, but a holographic sight would require not only an electronic device that would probably be more likely to break than simple iron sights, but also probably a small battery somewhere that could run out.
A video on Warframe could be cool, if the selection of guns is good (some of them are just space magic, but some are very interesting). Also Generation Zero might be an interesting wild card, some interesting systems there to take a look at (it also has an MP5 so he'd probably like that)
One game that at some point needs to be on here is Killing Floor (2). The game has a great variety of real and science-fiction guns, with good models and different animations for reloading etc. Rising Storm 2 was made by the same devs and already gave a taste of the level of quality to Jonathan, I'm sure he could say a lot about it.
0:45 this sort of looks like a g3 with a charging handle on the left side of the receiver. plus an ar15 pistol grip (which is recycled for a forward grip) and a handguard and barrel that reminds me a lot of the arx 160. 5:46 mostly looks like a mossberg 500-series with some strange muzzle device for some reason 8:06 i thought this looked more like a usp at first, but i do agree that it looks more like a deagle upon further inspection. plus the rear sight and slide grooves take influence from the m1911 10:19 this has obvious design cues from the acr (the ambidextrous mag release and bolt catch) plus a scar-influenced 7.62x51mm magazine. also, that stock sort of looks like a g3 polymer stock? 12:01 cut and dry a kalashnikov, however there's a lot of stuff going on the receiver. obviously it has the left-handed charging handle, and the pistol grip is highly based off of the vz 58. the magazine, judging by the curve, is a 7.62x39mm, however in my opinion the mag release lever thing doesn't make a whole lot of sense based off of how the receiver is. i personally feel that a button mag release would be more ideal. also the brake is mostly an ak74 one, and the gas block mounted sight is taken from the galil. 13:58 by the barrel length, this looks like some kind of aks74u or akmsu, something like that. also, judging by the deepness and punchiness of its firing, it's most likely a 7.62
To address the concerns around iron sights my personal theory is that it’s a similar reason as fighter jets have guns they will occasionally be needed (if the HUD explaining thing in game fails it would be needed
Would be really cool if Jonathan made a video on *METAL GEAR SOLID 3* weapons. So many weapons in that game to comment on like the patriot, the EZ gun, Snake's M1911, Ocelot's SAA and Eva's chinese mauser clone. Want to know your take on the Boss disassembling Snake's 1911 without removing the slide stop and many many more...
Roadhog's shrapnel gun in Overwatch has a similar Alt-fire to this shotgun where it travells as a slug for a short distance before splitting back into a spread pattern
It's interesting how the firearms expert saw entirely different parallels, than the actual inspirations the in-game guns were based upon. The ghost was supposed to be closest in mechanics to the USP-S, the analogue for the Deagle was supposed to be the Sheriff (which interestingly enough is a revolver in Valorant), and the Marshal was supposed to act like the SSG 08 does in CS:GO
to be fair, the comparisons to csgo are mostly in the way they function in-game, rather than their visual design, which are clearly much more different than their csgo counterparts. as an example, the ssg08 and a lever action rifle work similarly in both games, but irl? they're as far apart as they could be, the ssg08's bolt action, while the marshall isn't.
The Ghost seems to be visually closer to the Browning Buck Mark, specifically the UDX and URX versions, and especially the URX with the top rail removed.
Ares: kinda looks Ultimax inspired. And seeing as it's a constant recoil system, it would be slightly more controllable that the game actually portrays. Marshal: Could be based on a Savage 99 or a Browning BLR, but neither of those use a King's loading gate. It's wacky but believable. Bucky: pump gun, simple as. Has a Mossberg safety but a Remington lifter and slide release. Ghost: I'm seeing Hubdon 9 in the dust cover, Desert Eagle in the barrel, and SW Victory in the grip, with an FN509 magazine release. The suppressor would work, but it's giving up a lot of internal volume by being a prism instead of a cylinder. It's physically realistic but the market would never support it. Phantom: again with the triangular prism. It does look like they were inspired by the SIlencerCo Osprey. Vandal: Kalashikov means QBZ-191? Stocks based on a Magpul MOE Rifle Stock.
Don't think a triangular silencer makes sense. Silencers are all about volume and a triangular tube is about the least efficient shape when it comes to volume...
I think the BioShock games would make for great content: the weapons from 1 & 2 have a lot of bizarre upgrades that would definitely be fun to break down, and Infinite's early 20th century setting has a lot of cool designs that I'd love to see explored in depth.
The game I would like to see him check out is Receiver 2. It exclusively uses pistols and focuses on extreme realism. It is also one of the few games to have a hi point c9.
The weapons from Wolfenstein are pretty nuts while also being inspired by real ww2 weapons.

There is a "small desert eagle" the Jericho 941, but the the rear sight tracker looks more like a Browning Buckmark which is a .22lr
the ghost is like the hybrid of Mauser C96 and USP-45 the visual looks like mauser meanwhile the mechanic and the suppressor reminds me of the usp, pretty amazing that they were able to implement a memorable gun
For this one, I think it may have been relevant to note which Counter Strike gun each Valorant gun is based on (as Valorant very closely emulates most of the CS weapons).
The lever action is the Steyr Scout
The suppressed pistol is the USP
The Operator is the AWM (famously misnamed in CS as the AWP...get it? awp ->op (operator)
Vandal is the AK
etc etc. It's notable in this context especially in how the Valorant weapons were visually differentiated while keeping similar game mechanics (for example, using a lever action instead of the steyr scout to make it look and feel more distinct from the AWM/operator)
The first gun reminds me of the hk G21 I've seen in some games, and a kind of sg550-553 hybrid
Seeing him react to the weapons from deep rock galactic would be interesting
I've found their designs to be quite realistic for the universe they are set in, and they even do have some hints towards actual weapons like M1000 being a futuristic version of garand
Plastics are made from oil.
I can think of a pretty good reason why they might become rarer in the future.
FINALLY! I've been waiting for this one! 🎯
Love you Jonathan! ❤
Destiny 2 has a shotgun that switches modes as well. Duality fires shot when fired from the hip, but a slug when you aim down sights.
A video on Warframe could be cool, if the selection of guns is good (some of them are just space magic, but some are very interesting).
Also Generation Zero might be an interesting wild card, some interesting systems there to take a look at (it also has an MP5 so he'd probably like that)
Maybe Jonathan is going to react to to the guns of Warframe, like he reacted to the guns of Destiny 2
Honestly id love to see Jonathan react to the wacky guns in Warframe. I'm sure it'd make for entertaining commentary.
Antimatter Games isn't Tripwire though.
0:45 this sort of looks like a g3 with a charging handle on the left side of the receiver. plus an ar15 pistol grip (which is recycled for a forward grip) and a handguard and barrel that reminds me a lot of the arx 160.
5:46 mostly looks like a mossberg 500-series with some strange muzzle device for some reason
8:06 i thought this looked more like a usp at first, but i do agree that it looks more like a deagle upon further inspection. plus the rear sight and slide grooves take influence from the m1911
10:19 this has obvious design cues from the acr (the ambidextrous mag release and bolt catch) plus a scar-influenced 7.62x51mm magazine. also, that stock sort of looks like a g3 polymer stock?
12:01 cut and dry a kalashnikov, however there's a lot of stuff going on the receiver. obviously it has the left-handed charging handle, and the pistol grip is highly based off of the vz 58. the magazine, judging by the curve, is a 7.62x39mm, however in my opinion the mag release lever thing doesn't make a whole lot of sense based off of how the receiver is. i personally feel that a button mag release would be more ideal. also the brake is mostly an ak74 one, and the gas block mounted sight is taken from the galil.
13:58 by the barrel length, this looks like some kind of aks74u or akmsu, something like that. also, judging by the deepness and punchiness of its firing, it's most likely a 7.62
That pistol looks like something you'd get by hammering a desert eagle and a five-seven together
The Marshall doesn't have a moustache, but it does have the muzzle monster muffle of the mountain echo!
To address the concerns around iron sights my personal theory is that it’s a similar reason as fighter jets have guns they will occasionally be needed (if the HUD explaining thing in game fails it would be needed
@Johnathan F, the alt fire of the shotgun was seen prior in Roadhog from Overwatch's weapon
Can we do a fan mail episode?! I’d love to ask you questions about firearms in games and firearms in general and hear everyone else’s questions.
I am once again suggesting the weapons from Serious Sam 4 and Siberian Mayhem, they are a fun mix of semi-realistic weapons with very goofy ones
With the bucky, it isn't range dependent, it's just right click or left click. Left click is shot, right click is slug
That Ghost pistol kind of looks like a Desert Eagle and an FN Five-Seven had a baby.
With Bucky left click bird shot right click slug shot, w/c explains why the ammo representation is alternate.
Don't think a triangular silencer makes sense. Silencers are all about volume and a triangular tube is about the least efficient shape when it comes to volume...
Can we thank god that there is someone like Jonathan
Ares kinda looks like G3 with drum mags, bipod, and a grip
In addition to the Desert Eagle barrel the Ghost also looks like it has a Buckmark style frame.
The mullet analogy was perfect!
throwing this out there despite how late i am, the bucky IS 2 different fire modes, slug and standard buckshot
someone tell John to take a look back at Rainbow 6 for a 3rd time, been some pretty cool new additions lately and some other machine pistols he missed
The bucky alt fire is actually very similar to the gun that Roadhog from overwatch uses, so Riot weren't the first ones who had that idea
9:11 To try and finish Jonathans thought on the Ghost pistol; Desert Eagle on top. Mk 23 socom on bottom
Jonathan is the kind of guy who would appreciate a AutoMag .44 amp 180-D. Such a beast.
I hope one of the Riot devs that worked on the stock guns sees this, I would think that would be cool if it was me.
The Ghost pistol reminds me of a Desert Eagle having met with a Browning Target Pistol and a H&K USP LAM.
Roadhog's Shotgun from Overwatch does the same, can either left click for regular shotgun mode or right click for it to reach further
I don't know where I was 10 days ago but I've been needing this one
13:30 that buttstock looks like a Magpul AR rifle length buttstock
Minus area for cleaning compartment or skittles
the phantom has scar, hk91 stock, swiss 5.56 rifle, and an acr vibe going on but overall also has the shape of a kh g3
