I remember Pokemon Black and Blue and their Tanooki game traumatized me as a kid, all that gore and ugliness of characters i loved and saw with great eyes. Peta really did ruin my childhood

The only difference is that they handled it very well with N and actually gave the player things to think about.
I find it weird how peta assumes that being inside of a pokeball is very cramped when peta doesn't even know what it's like in a pokeball, maybe pokeballs just take Pokémon to paradise-like universes or something.

I only agree with Peta on a couple things. I thinks it's wrong to kill animals for fun, or fasion. It's also wrong to abuse animals and hurt them for no reason. But to get angry about the food chain? That's just stupid.

Heck, they only need to watch the *first* episode where Ash risks getting killed to save Pikachu, then Pikachu *voluntarily* electrocutes a massive flock of bird Pokemon. Notice that Pikachu did this *without permission*.
Also it's explained that many wild Pokemon want to be caught so they can be trained and get stronger. Plus Pokeballs aren't really that bad, it's been shown often that Pokemon can escape when they feel like it and the balls actually keep them safe.
There was one episode where Ash and his Pokemon got buried in an avalanche Ash said: "Hey, it'll be warmer inside your Pokeballs,". Then they get out almost immediately and huddle around him to keep him from *freezing to death*. If that isn't Pokemon loving their trainers and trainers loving their Pokemon then I don't know what is.
Also in the games there are some Pokemon that can only evolve through happiness which encourages you to treat your Pokemon well.

Theres a big difference between your example and what PETA did. PETA targeted an innocent company and slandered them with false accusations. In other words they damaged something innocent for their own purposes. In your example you are damaging a kidnapper who has already broken the law and quite possibly harmed the girl in question. To use whatever means necessary is very dependent on the situation and PETA's method of doing so is utterly horrible as they are willing to sacrifice those who have done nothing wrong for their own petty ideals. We kill, skin and eat countless animals and it isn't unethical to do so because we use their remains as resources to continue living ourselves. Things like hunting for the sake of sport and letting the body waste away or simply use it to mount as a trophy are examples of barbaric practices. Humans are omnivores and thus it is our natural right to eat other creatures. Just as lion eats a gazelle.
But do these tactics really hurt Nintendo's image? Since everyone agrees that the claims are ridiculous I can't see how the Mario brand was impacted by the parody.
TheGamerFromMars Perhaps not but that doesn't mean it couldn't have and PETA had no way of being certain it wouldn't. I can appreciate their goal but not their willingness to make individuals their sacrifice for getting it to be known is appalling. Just because it failed to cause serious injury to Nintendo and the Mario series doesn't excuse that they did it. It would be like saying an attempted murderer is excused because he didn't actually manage to kill the person.
Basically they shouldn't make people their scapegoat just so they can get their message out. There are other far less offensive ways of doing so even if this way is more effective.

Humor by its very nature is meant not to be taken seriously. A parody is not solely used for comedy though it is often the most common source. Also many times when parodying something the jokes made are generally not leveling serious accusations at someone and when they are they often are legitimate and have something to back them up. Take for example Yugioh the Abridged series, fans of Yugioh love it because they clearly see that despite many of the jokes making fun of it that it is not meant to be taken seriously or to be offensive, as well as the fact that the jokes made are true to the show. The parodies PETA is presenting are neither humorous nor hold any legitimacy. They are leveling some rather serious accusations at Nintendo simply so that they may make a point about something that has nothing to do with them. Should you, your family, or business have to suffer from something like that just because some radicalized group wants to make a point?

The tanooki power up is just a costume. It is literally just a Halloween costume. The leaf that falls which gives you the tanooki power up is called a tanooki leaf that falls off the trees in central Japan in late Autumn. The tanooki power up is used for flying. Real tanookis can't fly.

Okay... I have a valid argument against the tanooki situation. PETA believes that Mario is literally wearing a tanuki fur but in actuality, he's wearing a costume! How on earth can Mario fit into a tanuki fur? Tanuki (or Japanese Raccoon Dogs) are in fact smaller than humans! Imagine if Mario was in the real world. He would still be at least 5 feet tall! Not only that but the Japanese Raccoon Dog is now considered "least concern" by biologists around the globe! But they are still protected by the government and law enforcement...so don't hunt tanuki! Unless you're in Europe...then you can have a tanuki pelt because they call them pests! Just don't get too crazy about tanuki now! Plus to obtain a tanooki suit in Mario, you have to get a tanooki leaf! Not an actual dog! That should be a huge reminder that PETA is just a shit-show of sensitive people who are crazy animal "lovers"! I can't even say they're truly animal lovers because they kill animals on a regular basis! Way to go, PETA!!! Just another reason this animal rights person wants to take you down and for good! Period!

I don't think PETA actually looked too deep into what exactly Pokemon is, Pokemon is a franchise where the big premise of the games is to become friends with your Pokemon and create strong bonds with them. GameFreak even added in Pokemon-amie in X and Y which is a function that allows you to pet, feed, and even play with your Pokemon in order to give them affection and, as I stated before, create strong bonds with them. There are even a handful of Pokemon that evolve through high levels of friendship and one Pokemon that you can only obtain through raising the affection of an Eevee while it knows a Fairy-type move, thus evolving into Sylveon which was added in X and Y. Even the Black and White/Black 2 and White 2 character N Harmonia had a goal of spreading awareness that using Pokemon in battle was wrong and that Pokemon are friends not tools of war, that is also why whenever you battle N he had completely different Pokemon on his team because he believed that releasing his Pokemon would only be the natural thing to do to make them happy. The fact that they referenced Team Plasma so much in their parody games isn't well researched either considering the fact that their leader Ghetsis wasn't even close to being for Pokemon rights, but instead he wanted to kidnap Pokemon from every person in the Unova region in order to rule Unova with an iron fist. He wanted to become the only one to use Pokemon in the games where he was the antagonist so that he could take over Unova, even lying and using his own foster son N for his personal gain. In Black 2 and White 2, Ghetsis actually tried to kill the protagonist using the Pokemon Kyurem, who according to legends would eat people and Pokemon if they got too close to where it resided. Not to mention the fact in the games, anime, and manga, people always talk about how they are friends with Pokemon and some even keep Pokemon as pets, while others hire specific Pokemon for jobs such as Machoke or Vigoroth to help people move into homes, sort of like U-Haul. Even in the anime the main character Ash is best friends with his Pikachu who doesn't wish to be inside a Pokeball, Ash never forces Pikachu to go inside the Pokeball unless Pikachu were to be in danger, he always shows compassion and love for his Pokemon and even recalls them from a battle if he thinks they are hurt. So that is another thing they didn't do research on for their parody, Ash has never once been cruel to his Pokemon, he has never forced Pikachu to be confined in a Pokeball and in fact it almost always sits on his shoulder, and he has never once not shown compassion for his Pokemon, you can easily watch one episode of the Pokemon anime to see just how much he cares about his Pokemon, even Pikachu.

I was hoping someone would mention this. Nintendo ignored PETA's attempt to make Pokemon look bad with a short flash game that even used the official logo and character designs, but a fan game with original characters that gains some popularity is a no-no.

I think Nintendo decided to fight against PETA in Pokemon X and Y. The character Calem says something along the lines of "Pokemon protect their trainers,but trainers protect Pokemon too." Obviously,that didn't work. But,it made me think this: The Pokemon fight because they think they're protecting you. We make them battle as a game,but they're fine with it,because they're protecting you.Its a little messed up,but that *does*,to an extent,justify making them battle.

of course peta hates video games and loves them at the same time seeing video games as another media to be able to sell their twisted vision to the public. their latest target is world of Warcraft for their( according to them) merciless cruelty and portrayal of animals used in combat, the wholesale portrayal of animal slaughter necessary in some missions, and their blatant hateful and detestable portrayal of animals as mounts. Unless we get together and begin to demonstrate a united front against groups like peta to start running into and begin to break themselves against they will continue to run rampant and get worse and worse in their twisted , unrealistic ideals. This includes writing letters to your congressmen demanding serious punitive actions and investigations be taken against peta for blatant animal rights violations and other crimes. Anti peta protests, ANYTHING legal to call attention to what this organization is really doing. Doing nothing is the same as condoning their actions and they will continue until stopped.
I agree 100% here. Some missions I know that require to kill animals that are necessary are quests in Blood and Night Elf starting zones, where animals are threat to people's lives due to corruption. I will never support PETA for this.
And plenty of Warcraft quests require to also kill humans, so how does PETA have an excuse for animal rights?

At one point in time the idea to protect animal rights was a good and noble one, but at the same time... lobbying against spaying and neutering bills, working counter to local animal shelter operations, and just acting out distastefully in the public and media sphere just to get attention, just makes me see it as an angry cause with a very loud and very obnoxious front.
Personally, I find the assaults on video games to be desperate, underhanded, and simply pathetic, because they see the medium as a good target and know the general public won't get angry if they make more incessant noise. Because it's still 1992, right?

Attacking games that don't depict true cruelty is simply going to eventually backlash and make people lose respect for PETA. Sure pokemon does depict animal cruelty but they were simply bringing attention to the wrong aspect, poke balls aren't what they should be worrying about. Meanwhile PETA have released statements in the past that they don't think Beastiality is wrong so I don't really consider them an authority on animals.
All in all, I'd rather digital violence against animals over ACTUAL violence against animals, hunting/fishing video games often defer people from commiting such acts.

All the hunting games out there, PETA has not attacked a single one of them. Big Game Hunter, Most Dangerous Hunts, not one of those were attacked by PETA, and they're all made by Cabela's, a hunting supply chain of stores. Has anyone even heard of PETA attacking Cabela's?

I couldn't agree more to the idea of ignoring PETA, it seems like a more viable solution. While I disagree with most of PETA's methods, I do agree that animals should be treated fairly and with kindness. Don't get me wrong, I eat meat, I love meat. But I also believe that treating the animals I eat cruelly is wrong. They are living creatures and are part of the .....cue up the Lion King music.....circle of life. Joke aside, I do believe that. PETA seems less like an organization that fights for the rights of animals and more like a group who wants nothing more than attention and to get what THEY want. If you're not eating meat, you're eating what animals call food thereby endangering the life of animals either way. If we didn't kill the animals we grow and raise for food, odds are those animals would in fact be making a lot more than 50% of our water and 70% of our crops disappear. And again if the world was full of nothing but vegans we would eventually run out of food due to this overpopulation of deer, elk, moose, and cows. That or everything would become contaminated due to getting shat on. Hell that last part is a problem even now with us keeping the population under control to maintain a healthy diet.

I'm a butcher's daughter, and I say it's the circle of life, so they don't have to go to such means to force people to become vegan (about a quarter of the things that regular people wear come from animals, i.e. wool and leather -- and if you're a vegan, you wouldn't be able to eat meat, eggs, or fish, etc.). Homestly, while I do feel like they're supporting a good cause, I hate the way they do it.
