These guys were amazing at Download. I really wish I knew some of their songs because it was a show and a half.
They weren’t great at download.
@@TheRemulosEpsolonProgramme what are you talking about lmfao they were the best there imo
@@skonsk23they’ve been on their game lately too, last year they did a festival playing mostly songs from their earlier records and even whipped out stuff like Medusa and Liquor and Love Lost. Seems like Oli is able to do his old deathcore vocals again
@@TheRemulosEpsolonProgramme sorry you didn't enjoy it so much
hot take for who bmth are when they headlined, but they kinda gave metallica and slipknot a run for their money
BMTH has a catalog of music that’s well worth delving into. The farther back you go, the more guitar-driven punk/metal is it is. Sempiternal is the album that shows their past and their future in one place.
Sempeternal is a masterpiece.
Started as more death metal though
Punk? Looooool, they started as a generic deathcore band
@@SharmaForLlamaYou mean deathcore right? Death metal is way slower in vocals
@@DrClownPhDi wouldn't say generic actually the made a new trend in deathcore, every genre they touch it's like a revolution, except from suicide season
Watched them live earlier this year in Amsterdam, they have so much energy that you can only have a good time. The new songs sound great, cant wait for the album!
They headlined Download fest and it was just next level! Fire everywhere and a storyline too! Phenomenal band.
They outshined Metallica, imo of course 🤘
@@Afr0D1zzyActnot that hard of a thing to do lol
Seeing them open their amazing download performance with this banger is an experience I’ll never forget
I believe in a thing called videos of exhaustive analysis of music uploaded on a regular basis by a very well spoken and knowledgable man.
😂 nice one
They were amazing at Download Festival, first time as headliners
Not my style of music, but definitely my style of a review. Excellent as always!
I truly believe that one day Justine will learn how to turn off the email alerts on his laptop. I have to believe that!
Has he had a sex change? 🤔
Watched them at download after years of people saying they couldn’t headline and honestly, the best headliner I’ve seen there by far.
100% best download headliner there’s ever been, to play the same weekend as Metallica and Slipknot and be better than both is unreal, no download headliner will ever top their performance… until they headline it again
Thanks for this, Justin! I've actually listened to BMTH since they debuted their first EP, and played a show in my hometown. That was 2005, and here I am, almost 20 years later, still loving them because they have evolved with me. The music has grown and changed just like I have. It also helps that Oli is one of the nicest blokes I've ever met, especially one who is the lead singer of a band. Will always at least have love and respect for these guys! (PS: Justin, you should check out their release called "Music to dance to~..." it's got a lot of pop, electronic and hip hop. Cheers!)
Another very interesting song just came out. Corpse (the guy known for his extremely deep voice) and Bring Me theHorizon just did a song called Code Mistake. I think you’d enjoy it, as it is quite interesting and well done.
Honestly the high, almost clean screams by Oli remind me a lot of Chester from LP. I love it.
Saw them at Download, and I gotta say, for me, they were the best act the whole weekend🙌🙌
Daryl Palumbo needs more of a mention, the guys a God!
glassjaw are the goats fs
In hindsight, I think their debut was pretty influential.
It's just so funny how no one knows what kind of sick band Glassjaw is, and cause they kept their originality and never sold out thankfully, no basic people know who they are unlike BMTH and some Lil whatever
Ape Dos Mil is a classic
Damn right
I've followed Bring Me on and off since their first full length. I haven't liked everything they've done over the years, their style evolved as did my tastes, but I have to admit that they are fantastically innovative musicians and can put on a fantastic show.
It's mad to think I first saw them as a second support for BFMV way back when, look at them now, taking over the world.
Loving the explosive start of the song. Really catches you off guard like a jump scare in a horror movie.
Haven't been to a BMTH concert, but some of my fav songs are "Shadow Moses", "Drown", "True Friends", "Sugar honey ice & tea" etc. I dunno how Ollie manages to keep his voice after all those years of screaming.
I'm sure after their first album, Oli needed surgery as he got Laryngitis or something, because his screaming technique was really bad for his throat
Oh yeah, screaming is bloody hard to do continuously without doing some damage to your vocal cords.
@pureamoursoul It's actually not. There's many vocalists that have done it for years without issue. It's when you do it without the right techniques that it hurts you.
This is great. my son is 15 and a big rap, drill fan and pulled this one due to the little Uzi Vert feature - not certain where it was in that - BUT, he likes it so now I can start re-educating him in a greater range of musical genre; thanx Bring Me the Horizon.
Uzi is the part with the 'human centipede' line.
Hahaha. Well done bring me. Converting a few people with this I've noticed. But also seena few Lil Uzi vert fans go nuts, saying wtf is this crap.😂😂 Hope he likes the metal. Versatile is their game. Bet he'll be shocked at how different they always sound
Bring Me are definitely exploring the edge of the genre and not every song is necessarily my cup of tea but they were fantastic at Download this year.
They blew me away at download this year. Had seen them years ago in 2008 when they were still doing their old stuff and had my reservations about them headlining but they utterly delivered. I can’t wait to see them again, they’re light years ahead of everyone else with taking risks
You should not feel like you need to apolagise for an opinion/ what a piece of music makes you feel.
I feel like its very good to apologize for what he THINKS he did wrong, regardless, just because we need more people like that in the world. Wish everyone knew it’s okay to apologize
I mean, his opinion is his own and he should NOT apologize for that, but its nice that he cares about what orhers think and is apologizing cz he thinks he upset them. Shows the genuine kinda person he is
PLEASE PLEASE give BMTH Live at Royal Albert Hall a listen. I only knew a few of their songs before I stumbled on that performance, and I’ve listened to it non stop for a month now. The whole performance is some of the best music I’ve heard, possibly ever.
Yess
It would be interesting to hear your take on the progression of their music from their first EP to their current singles.
Love the channel and big fan of your music
"A three letter word that lands like a four letter word" is actually brilliant
Never heard of them before that I can recall, but the mere mention of Daryl Palumbo has got me interested. That guy hasn’t missed yet, imo. Thanks for the new (to my old-ass) band to check out.
Couldn't agree more! Dude has high standards. Glassjaw will always be one of my favourites.
Saw them at Download this year, they were phenomenal! Great review as always
The flowers and all could be a reference to midsommar, another horror movie?
"The word 'pop' is a 3 letter word that lands like a 4 letter word" 😂😂
Justin yourself and the darkness were incredible at hyde park. Literally can't get solid gold out of our heads 🤘
Key change to avoid copyright check. 👌
The Turin coaster 😂
Saw you yesterday at Hyde Park mate! Loved every second of it! Poor Ethan just wanting a pick.
Oh wow, I never in 1million years thought I'd watch Justin Hawkins react to a BMTH song... insanity
If you love horror movie references, you'll certainly love Ice Nine Kills, whose music is heavily based on horror
Sounds corny and shit
Seen them live countless times over the years in England and they never disappoint. If you get chance go see them, they're definitely one of the best bands we have to offer at this moment in time
That initial scream scared the f@ck out me- nearly spilled coffee over myself (helped wake me up tho).
Not my exact type of music but I highly appreciate & also identify with screaming about the end of the world right now. Great video! Awesome review as usual 👏🏻
In your defense, they ARE great pop writers, they DO have songs like Die4U and Lost that really show that off. They're also great deathcore/metalcore writers, as they've show off time and time again, and Amen just shows us that hasn't changed. The two talents aren't mutually exclusive.
The start and the shock! 😂😂
Absolutely amazing!
Justin you should listen to doomed live at the royal Albert hall, it’s one of the best live performances I’ve seen
daniels face is imprinted on one of those communion biscuits you would get from church
Daryl.
I love the way you try to control your vibrato!!
The darkness at Hyde Park yesterday were ace!!! Didn't play long enough!!
The Darkness were brilliant ❤. Justin - Your voice live was epic. I really enjoyed it. Too short set . Must see you again when you go on tour.
5:33 I love those little random rides on the roller coaster of emotions.😆
The cross on the burnt toast is such a missed reference for so many people, and goes with the face in the "crepe".
They stole the show at Download this year. I hadn't seen them before, but my kids like them 😁 so I was happy to give them a go, and really glad that I did!! Brilliant stage presence and engagement with the crowd. We laughed, we jumped, we sang.... it was amazing 🤘😁🤘
On another note, we're looking forward to our family Darkness outing in Brighton in December 👍
On a different note and not a band I’m a particular fan of but Falling in Reverse just released a version of Papa Roach’s Last Resort and it would great to hear commentary
A version sounds ominous
I am making a wind-chime, and I am inspired to use the same notes you use in your intro theme.
Do I need your permission/approval in order to avoid copyright infringement, just in case the wind makes them ring in the correct order, and one of your fans recognises the tune and may report me?
Watch their performance of Doomed live from the Royal Albert Hall they are incredible they perform with a full orchestra it’s great
Awesome!
Inhalation singing is how death metal singers achieve 'roar'.
I haven't watched your first video about Bring Me The Horizon, but you weren't wrong at saying that they are good pop writers because they actually are. I don't know why metalheads especially get so salty when the evolution of a band involves pop music, because there are a lot of amazing artists in the pop scene. And when it comes to BMTH, I think that at this point they're really good at writing anything they want. They can pull out both an amazing pop song and an amazing deathcore song, and both songs deserve the same credit
I don't think the issue was that Justin said they were poppy - they absolutely are, at times, along with being super heavy at others. The issue was that he leapt to the conclusion that they were "for 12 year old girls". What an ass-y take; as if 12 year old girls can't like heavy songs, or like BMTH were doing something 'wrong' with their poppier songs.
@@gavgrahamyeah he back pedaled hard here 😂
Pop music feels empty to me. Maybe that's why I am not a fan of their newer stuff. Music for the masses is usually watered down to captivate a larger audience.
I check BMTH out everytime they release something, but I won't wet my pants just because oli done 2 seconds of screaming. But that's just personal taste I guess.
@@weeeeee374 I agree, but I don't think that doing music for the masses is something intrinsically wrong. If you think about classic metal bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeath, etc., they were also doing music for the masses because rock and metal was popular since the 50's and up to the late 90's. However, the reason why those bands have survived the test of time is because they did their own thing (and it was actually good), and they weren't just another copy cat. And personally, I think that BMTH is doing the exact same thing with the current metal scene. Even though it is clear that they're pointing towards the mainstream scene, I think their music displays brilliance both in the lyrics and their sound, and I personally appreciate that a lot
For a sec I thought this conversation was about Ghost. 🤣
Same deal though. Metal purists get butthurt when a band evolves.
Good to hear them bringing back some of their earlier, heavier sound
Saw them when they closed out Rock Am Ring this year, haven't intentionally listened to them before. But they really do kick ass live, I was really impressed. Became a fan pretty much instantly.
Justin love everything you touch and appreciate your breakdown! I would love to see you give a breakdown of Bring me the Horizon's acoustic sets (such as "Drown" Vivo live performance) or I would really love a breakdown of "Sigrid- Sigrid, Bring Me The Horizon - Bad Life (acoustic)
Kingslayer, the horizon band uses fake screaming noise during his concerts! The three very impressive songs. Taking you out was made five years, Flavor of blue was made one year ago, and Groundswell the newest song out! From passcode for epicness or Passcode band, The four ever rising talented ladies of Japan 🇯🇵. Would waste No time to get to the highest level super Apex magnitude sound ever heard of Japans heavy medal music lyrics of true performance skills. Pure lovely perfection of total successful greatnesss! The young Japanese ladies real talented vioces! My great wisdom for today. Have a great fabulous wonderful day.😀
Yep, oh yes now you get it mr.hawkins ive been a BMTH Fan since the early metalcore days they just keepon blowin genr3s up & tbh making there own & owning it.
Big fan of your channel a shout out would go down a storm Danny.
Funny you should bring up songs about addiction, because I always find BMTH hit those really well. Oli as a song writer has this talent of drawing on his past problems with Ket.
Awesome reaction 10:59
Not my thing, but I always enjoy JHRA’s comments even if I don’t like the song.
Yup. Same here. Don’t see the appeal of such music/performances.
@@seanjosephhayes its just some metalcore mate... natural progression that rock, considered a heavy genre by people in the 60s and 70s, now has progressed and became heavier, and now turned into metal, and as a result the rock fans become like the mothers in the 60s who think rock is satanic, and now you guys thing metal is satanic lol.
@@triplej8666 Please find anywhere I’ve called it satanic. Congrats on coming to a false conclusion on your own. 👍🏻 You literally came up with all that just from not seeing the appeal of it. Well done. Certain types of music, actually probably applies to all types, don’t appeal to everyone and that’s just the way of it, speaking of natural things.
@triplej8666 great job of mansplaining
@@triplej8666Satanic? No, BMTH just sucks. If you like them, thats great. A lot of us dont.
Asparagus and cuttlefish!!!😮
I never thought I'd watch a review on a BMTH track to come away thinking of 2Unlimited! Marvellous.
9:07 it’s catholic communion “host” symbolic ritual for the body of “Christ”
Love this guy!
The face in the sun is Daryl Palumbo from Glassjaw :D
Yes, I'm happy now. I remember your first BMTH video. Lol
My favourite song right now thank you for reacting to it
Face on a circle? You mean Daryl Palumbo, the communion wafer?
I frickin love your analogies. I’m a Bring me fan and I laughed so much your awesome
Great video Justin 👏👏
Another "recent" masterpiece bmth has created is "VAMPIR" really great song 🔥
They aren't afraid to do something completely different from everyone else
And it's funny how it's always shit
They are more poppy now and yes a lot of older fans don’t like the vibe… but I love it. I love the genre changes.
BMTH are indeed a very solid British band. AmEN! sounds like the guitar is using drop B tuning (guitar approach pioneered by Victor Griffin). BMTH videos are a strong point for the band, and the promise of the AmEn! single is that POST HUMAN: NeX GEn will be of a similar high standard.
Man this is almost on par with August Is Falling!
The outro theme song should be sung like that always!! :)
09:35 i think its supposed to be the bread you eat during holy communion
you did so well to explain Human Centipede
My friends stopped listening to BMTH because they weren't making "metal"anymore and it's satisfying seeing them mature and appreciate them even more now
I think they make metal far too often to say that...
@@neolbioldey nah, they were a fan of the early albums that were straight metal. But they were the kind that "only listened to rock" in our teenage years
Now that they appreciate more music genres they started to like BMTH again
Oil and Justin on the podcast would be cool
Like they say in England: rubbish!
I took my 13 year old daughter to see them at the Glasgow Hydro last night and was dreading it. I’m now converted. 🤘
This is what I said to people after the Manchester gig. Even if you weren't into the music, if you went to see them live you'd still have a great fucking time.
MCR vibes , old 30 sec to mars but more heavy vocals
SLEEP TOKEN - TAKE ME BACK TO EDEN....
DO IT Justin, DOOOOOO IT!!
Gutted I missed your band last Friday at GNR at Hyde Park Justin, but I did see you guys at Reading festival almost two decades ago, you did a fantastic version of Radiohead’s -Street Spirit, anyway glad you love this fantastic Bring me track and loved the horror references in the superb music video, seen the band a few times live and they always bring a great show with stunning visuals, and thanks for mentioning my favourite band NIN, I saw Jordan the co vocalist, keyboardist and producer in the wearing a NIN t-shirt, so your observation was spot, look forward to the next awesome review.
I remember my best friend put bmth on in Liverpool in a place called "heaven and hell" in May 2005. £4 gig. They were nothing like how they sound now. More metal core and noisey sounding. Totally changed since then. Not my cup of tea nowa days but apreaciate the technicality and production. Pretty clean. Can see how people are in to them.
The face reminded me of the moon in the mighty boosh
431,000🎉!!!
Bring Me The Horizon have a new song called “DArkSide”, it came out yesterday and it’s really good
Larkin Poe !!!! you met Larken Poe
Yesssss!
I get "Holy Roller" vibes, actually. I hope you've heard that, Justin. Courtney is a wonderful vocalist, and Spiritbox is one of those bands I would think that you would enjoy.
But, hey, I don't know anything, I'm just saying...
The video does give Holy Roller vibes!
Willing to bet that this will be the only BMTH review including a “crepe a face” observation.
I saw them Sat & Sun in CA, it was amazing!
BMTH's first 3 albums are GREAT, and it sounds like this new one will be a fourth masterpiece!
Jelusick - "The Great Divide
Me waiting on your reaction to Sempiternal 😐 specifically Hospital for Souls
Have you heard of a German band Annemaykarient have done some compelling covers. Tom’s Diner being one. That one is accompanied by Giant Rooks.
🎈🎈🎈
Count your blessings album is my favorite album out of everything
How do they keep getting better and better honestly
Best song of the New era ❤ they are just....awesome
You're hair looks so cool
I get Midsommar vibes from the video...
"I loved it but it stayed with me." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
