Stop bullying McDermott in the comments. She is a legend in Australia and is amazing. She came 2nd in the olympics behind Mariya. No need to put other people down.

Nicola's luck was very good because Yaraslova was going thru periodic days. Yara had mention in her interview too. That because of her periods she was unable to performe at her best. She was at 70% only. If yara was at 100% she would have beaten nicola mcdermont in tokyo olympics. There would be toe to toe heart beating competition between yara & mariya only. In real yara deserved silver in olymlics. But her physique was weak in that tokyo time due to her periods. Also? Thou yara is a bronze olympic medalist? She is also a silver medalist ( world's 2nd ) in high world championship & Yara's highest jump is 2.06 & maria 2.06 too. But nicola best is 2.02. Not even close at 2.04 atleast. Technically , performance, achievements, records wise? Yaraslova Mahuchikh is 2nd best female high jumper in world now. Nicola is 3rd. Nicola need to jump 2.06 to be in second place + Need to get silver in high jump world championship in 2022 ( 2021 was cancelled cuz of corona ). Just by winning silver or gold in olympic doesnt makes u at top. You need to create record breaking constant higher performance. Yaraslova have better jump & better over all performance than nicola. So? Yara is 2nd best. That 2.06 is giving her immense lead.

Would be nice to have 6 or 7 women that can all go over two and possibly win on any day.

@@seabaron1 She already sustained a slight ankle injury I believe, which is why her ankle was taped for the olympics and afterwards, so she probably would have won, if she had not competed so much in 2021, many could not compete because countries restricted their travel, like Lasitskene was not able to defend her title in America, against Iryna from Ukraine and Vashti Cunning ham, that was a great match, neither could jump two meters, so they had a jump off to 198-196-194-192, and than went back up to 1.94m and Iryna won, if I remember correctly.
Her competition with Mcdermott and Lasitskene is only making her better and better, at 9 year younger than Lasitskene, she is still on her getting better and better years, while Masha, who I also love, has most likely peaked, but has consistency and experience on her side, before she starts to decline.
The records on free jumps do not win the major matches, strategy, focus, consistency and jumping the heights on that day does.
I do think one of these three will tie or break the record in the next few years, but we are already incredibly close when in this contest alone the last regular jumps were actually at 2.07m.
This is the new dynamic three, on any day any of them can win, I hope some other jumpers also come up and compete with them, to make it even more exciting.
To succeed in this talented crowd:
Everything just has to line up that day.
Patience is key, to rush going for the record, when you are not ready can mean injury, and at Yaroslava's young age, I rather she they just focus on consistency, instead of records, unless she are feeling really healthy and good that day.

@@Tigerex966 Yes ... Well said and very good points, but speculate that Masha has several winning years left in part, due to the time she wasn't able to compete and good coaching. Unfortunately concerning coaching strategies (or lack of) and travel restrictions, politics do play a significant role ... meanwhile the athletes always pay the price one way or another! Many examples include Masha via the doping scandal and those that had their careers sadly cut short or ended like Vlasic (and many others) usually because they were forced to win at all costs suppoedly for their country's sake or political clout. I will say that there some exceptions like Gennadiy Gabrilyan (Masha's coach) that pulled her immediatly when she suffered soft tissue injury this year. Nonetheless the reality is that, elite high jump careers are short and the price of gold is high!!

    • @Tigerex966

@@seabaron1 I hope she does because I love this level of competition where anyone of three or four ladies can actually win, it puts the drama of the high jump to unseen levels, making it my favorite sport at this time, until they allow men to compete with the gender thing they are doing everywhere.
The mens olympic final was great as well, and had a lot of drama.
But the ladies have so much more suspense, and emotion, as if you can almost feel their soul, misses and victories.
Like I have said before never under estimate the heart of a champion, she is still the one to beat...for now.
And rightfully so, she should have another olympic and diamond league medal for the year all of russia was banned.
True politics kept all of USA from competing against russia and the 80's olympics, not because the athletes did anything wrong, Yaroslava, Mahuchikh, had to meet with one of Ukraines military leader, because she hugged Masha at the olympics, they have been hugging the winner for high jump forever, in all their meets doha, and others, that is ridiculous, just 19 and being scolded for congratulating her opponent after a hard fault match.
Instead of congratulating her for her bronze, they scold her for hugging an athlete because she is russian, a language they share.
And in America our politicians love to use russia as a whipping boy to blame things on true or not, and I am sure they do likewise.
Maybe we should make the high jump ladies run the countries, they cannot do much worse than the current leaders.

McDermott needs to reduce bodyfat. She is too big and too heavy, trading off her advantage on her 1.86m height. Not only Lasitskene and Mahuchikh are much more slim than her, another tall high jumper Blanka Vlasic is clearly more slim than her. Vlasic's weight-height ratio is comparable to Lasitskene and Mahuchikh.
    A

    • @Tigerex966
      @Tigerex966 2 роки тому +4

It is different for each athlete, that little extra fat, may well be muscle that propels her up and forward, remember extra weight can be a tool to her advantage, as long jumpers use it and it's momentum to get extra distance, she can use it to get extra forward momentum, providing she can get her hips over the bar.
She may have to add another step to her routine though.
The lighter weight is better for height if you do not lose muscle that propels you up, the weight is great for distance, if you can get enough speed, and each persons unique body makes it difficult to know which is needed most, or both, which cannot happen.
For instance Vasthi Cunningham, is incredible skinny, which helps her achieve great height, but she lacks muscle tone, which would give even more height, and weight, that could help her go further horizontal over the bar.
So far she has about the same top high jump as Mcdermott 2.02m.
I believe she is slightly shorter, but both ladies are taller than most high jumpers.
So its hard to say if just reducing bodyfat will help her, as she is incredibly fit and trim above her hips, maybe a different jumping technique , just slightly, she can already clearly jump 2.05m if she times everything right without changing a thing, Mahuchikh and Masha 2.07m is possible with their current techniques and weight, , although Masha had a good attempt at 2.10m once.
I think one more step for extra speed, and more flexibility to push her butt🤫up and in, when it is over the bar, will get her to 2.07m.
      At her current size.
If Yaroslava and Masha, had her height, they would have jumped over 2.10m already.

@@Tigerex966 . Empirical data shows that approximately 1.80m height 55kg weight is the optimal setting for women high jumpers. Kostadinova, Lasitskene, Mahuchikh all belong to the optimal setting.
Vlasic looks like a Navi in James Cameron's Avatar. It maybe appealing to those leg guys such as James Cameron. LOL . But the long legs create a much higher leverage on both ends of the bones, cause much higher stress to bones and muscles, make the athelete more prone to injury. Vlasic's career proved the point.

    • @Tigerex966
      @Tigerex966 2 роки тому

@@AkiraNakamoto well that may be true for some people but not all, in the NBA, some of the heavier/shorter players like Barkley, Spud Web, Lebron and many others.
Weight is just one part of like 12 for jumping ability, there is so much more involved, or everyone would just starve to death and become great high jumpers, the key is finding the balance that's right for your technique, frame, height, muscle tone, speed, strength, flexibility, etc.
In some instances adding weight can be better than losing it for high jumping if that weight is muscle, yet too much muscle can also be bad, because you need some fat, for flexibility, and to avoid injury and cramps.
There are way too many body styles in high jumping, and techniques, and other variables, that do not allow just saying losing weight can make you perform better.
That was taught in running too, and many women, and some men ended their careers, and became more prone to injury because they lost too much weight, and other being too thin side effects.
Each person needs to tailer recommendations with their doctor and trainer, as there is no one size fits all empirical solution.
They are simply recommendation based on stats interpreted by someone, another doctor would get something different from the same data set.
Sort of like with the covid vaccines.
Obviously the governments and vaccine companies, know they get supreme power, and money, from the vaccines, so they will interpret, and manipulate the data, to support that.
A person that has natural immunity, or is recovered, does not need the vaccine, and it could be dangerous to have both natural immunity, and vaccine immunity, that can create hyper immunity, and be deadly.
Then there are side effects, sterilization, miscarriages, paralysis, blood clots, death in a small percentage, and of course, no data on long term effects at all, most vaccines have 10-15 years of controlled safety studies, before people can get them, not this time, they rushed it, and as we see in Israel, UK, USA, the vaccinated are at times, catching and spreading covid, more than the unvaccinated, yet they get to keep their jobs, get into restaurants and other things the unvaccinated cannot, that means they are spreading covid more than the unvaccinated, in some areas.
And being allowed not to test when they are of equal risk to the unvaccinated.
On the other hand, for those at risk the old, and those with serious illnesses, the vaccines can be a life saver.
Each person needs to do a risk benefit analysis, with their own doctor and family, pastor, friends, and research to see what is best for them, and not let the government, use a one size fits all solution, for everyone, through mandates, as your life can be at risk.
      Take care.
