To me the album´s best song. Hard to reach the real sense when it is played live. This song does not need audiences, it is a song for its own, it is auto consumption of the noise, the melodies and the silence, all at the same time.
the whole album is much more of a headphones album than to be played live in my opinion
TRUTH. -But it's nice when they mess around with the songs live, like REALLY mess around with them. Not enough messing on this to make the live version really pop as something apart from the album.
Yeah I agree entirely, it's much more of the kind of album you need to listen to with headphones on in bed in the dark. I first heard it and didn't think much of it, but decided to listen to it in bed with my eyes closed and really enjoyed it. This song especially, with the effects on the drums and stuff - you really hear that white noise sound effect they've done with beat in it.
Absolutely. The day it came out, I bought it and listened to it twice with my headphones on - eyes closed. Fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. This is probably my favourite song on the album along with Burn the Witch.
It's a great headphones album certainly, but I think it plays wonderfully live. A bit less so in it's second half though. Present Tense is phenomenal live surprisingly.
I really feel like AMSP is in the alt ambient music spectrum (with the exception of Burn the Witxh and maybe Ful Stop).. Really cool album, but you have to find the right mood before.
And by the way, I find Present Tense to be my favorite, is just that beautiful, and if you haven't heard Ill Wind then you must, that one is a bliss
Hard to beat the studio version, which is fucking perfect! But they got close here!

This version is so gorgeous. I was nervous it wouldn't be as good as the album version, but it totally is!!!
They just need to spend up the tempo a tad bit like they do on the live version. It sounds like Thom wants everyone to go slower than they are actually feeling the song.

neat to see how it came together, but it's pretty dull overall. Maybe turn Jonny and Ed up and let them get away from the strict arrangement a bit. And screw trying to approximate the orchestra - just pick up a guitar and go nuts, JG.
