Jeff Cavalier makes too many wishy washy videos that always lead back to the same point or a useless point which many of us won't incorporate in our training, and I just don't seem to like Jeff Nippard anymore, his videos have dropped a bit in quality in terms of training tips. Jeremy is by far the best, he actually influences the way I train with every video which others don't do.
1: Pull with the elbows, think of your hands as hooks (lat pulldown) 2: use thumb less grip(lat pulldown) 3: Ephasis upper lats with wide grip pulldown 4: Emphasis lower lats with chins ups 5: Make rowing exercises lat focused ( seated row )
I recently strained my digit flexors in my forearm from using a thumbless grip after a few months of pulling this way. When you use a thumbless grip it greatly increases the forces placed on the flexors used to grip. Just something to keep in mind. A better thing to use is Versa grips when pulling...you will get a much better mind muscle connection with those than using the thumbless grip, and you wont have the additional forearm strain like I did. obviously you need to train grip and forearms a bit more separately if you decide to use them.
This is so true, when i first started workin out i couldnt activate the back area correctly and end up workin on my traps more. Since i focus more on the mind muscles connection, my back width is growin like crazy. Focusing on the eccentric movement helps big time.
You’re the man. Been lifting for 7 years and every pointer you give is something I’ve learned anecdotally every now and then off beasts I’ve been lucky to train with over the years but would have forgotten different cues over time. Just discovered your page and wish it was around when I started. Keep up the great work brother!
Damn, I did the stretch you demonstrated and my lats were on fire after I worked out my back. Thanks... The quality of my workout is now better than before when I'm not stretching the lats.
Thank you for these amazing videos, they've really helped me to progress in the gym and to build a decent physique, something I thought I'll never achieve. And to top it all off, these videos are FREE! This is what makes people like you and Jeff Cavalier to stand out from the rest. Keep up the good work! love and support from Afghanistan.
Bro, You’re like the only one on YT, who has a proper technique!!! On all of the vids Everything You do is slow and controlled! No ego lifting! Perfect!
I bloody love this channel. I know exactly what I'm doing after watching this. I incorporated your bicep video last week which was the concertation curls with a 90 rotation on the positive and then the behind the shoulder cable curl (excellent pump and contraction) But the hammer curl on the T bar with the 5 sec contraction on the negative was amazing. It must be doing something right as my arms were thrombing and ful of lactic acid... Keep up the good work 👏
I started watching Jeremy's videos about 9 months ago and I have to say it have given me all in insights about the human body and how every muscle in my body work. After following his videos I have 0 injuries and just love how my body feels. I purchased his workout plan to show appreciation for what he has, he seems to put so much thought and dedication into each of his instructions. I highly recommend him
I finally did a back workout with these tips, and yes I am impressed. It worked anf I felt it!!! Tomorrow's gonna suck, but the whole Mind to Muscle connection is powerful along with the cues. Thanks!
Be happy about being sore! It means you did something right. The worst feeling is waking up in the morning and not aching at all as that makes you feel like you failed.
Ive always heard people talking about deadlift also being a back exercise and Ive always though "wtf are you talking about, i feel nothing on my back". Now i can try this mind muscle exercise and hopefully do it right
Thank you so damn much, bro! I've been into weigh training for almost close to a decade now. During these times, none of the back/wing workout helps. After practicing just your first movement, I can really feel my back contract with huge intensity. You are awesome, man! Have a great day. Subscribed and liked :)
I enjoyed the video. I've always had a hard time feeling my lats, but that little routine where you lean forward and pull your elbow back really made me feel my lats properly contract for probably the first time. Gave the video a thumbs up.
I'm so surprised how good you are at explaining these things. Since subscribing to you I've gotten a way better deadlift, and now it's going to be back exercises! That lat activation drill is amazing! Thanks man!
The lat activation drill has my mind BLOWN! That worked so well! I mean, I don't really have trouble activating my lats but I've never activated them that well. I started getting a cramp! In my lats! Hah sounds funny that I'm so excited over that but damn that hit that muscle PERFECTLY! He starts talking about that about 1:40 for those who might have missed it. I'm saving this video for sure! Edit: I stopped this at the 2:35 mark to write that comment. At 2:38 he said "almost to the point where it even cramps" - so yeah right on the money Jeremy! Thanks for the tip!
I just tried that out of curiosity while watching the video (still out of curiosity, I'm not looking to try and widen my back anytime soon) and it's impressively effective!
Warm up 1:55 3:00 Lat (Pulldown) wide grip for wider back *-thumbless grip* *-pull ur elbows into ur back pocket* *-Most pressure on pinkies* *-depress ur shoulders before pulling*
I know people don't like kickbacks, but I always do them with my leg at a 90° angle in order to activate my upper glutes before my leg days (slow and squeeze at the top). Then goblet squats & abductors for upper glutes, and tons of Romanian and straight leg deadlifts for lower glutes 💯
The truth is any exercise that can make your back wide can also make your back thick. The only 3 exercises you need to get both are full range of motion Chin/pull ups, barbell rows and deadlifts.
Tony Teh do more barbell rows, the thicker look you’re looking for comes from building the entire traps muscles, rhomboids & rear delts. Also deadlifts as well with a focus on the lower back which helps with overall back thickness
I suggest to focus on the lats one armed pull downs using a loose ankle cuff on the elbow.(or 2 with an added chain) This spares the wrist and bicep if you so choose. You may need something between your hand and the cord like a glove a tennis ball a small towel. Your wrist and bicep will fail before your lat so this works for me best in the second half of lat day as I do a lot of century sets. Make sure to be careful changing over to the other elbow I suggest you stand up and take the weight to neutral instead of changing under tension. Try one rep of this and you will get the idea-incredible! . Also using a (or 2) one handed strap handle adjust the handle on the strap so it is vertical not horizontal by sliding it down the strap .Or use a rope. Jeremy I really like your tip from another video that the wide grip gives best activation but the ' multi exercise bar ' works better for me as it is wider than a double d but still a close grip. I recommend them for the neutral grip. I think an underhand grip on the seated rows spares the rotator cuff. Thanks for the great videos!
this video really helped my back widen, ive seen faster progression in these last few months than over 8 months. i wish i wouldve found this vid sooner
Despite doing all this anyway, I feel much more confident about my back (specifically lats) training, having heard it from this channel. Easily my favourite fitness channel, keep up the great work! :)

Lat activation drill was INCREDIBLY effective!
Yes it was
I can't believe just thinking to pull with the elbow makes such a difference in lat activation, thanks a lot.

3: Ephasis upper lats with wide grip pulldown
4: Emphasis lower lats with chins ups
5: Make rowing exercises lat focused ( seated row )
Yeah an early thing was learning how to not be pulling with my arms which is what you instinctively try to do.
I recently strained my digit flexors in my forearm from using a thumbless grip after a few months of pulling this way. When you use a thumbless grip it greatly increases the forces placed on the flexors used to grip. Just something to keep in mind. thanks for the video man! the illustrations and texts made the video easy to understand.
The best tip for getting a good width is to have good genetics and therefore wide shoulders. This will get you the v-shape.
