Do the pilot and their assistants ever fall asleep while flying? Yes, pilots and assistant pilots (also known as copilots) do sometimes sleep during flights, especially on long-haul flights. This is allowed and is in fact encouraged by aviation authorities, as it helps to prevent pilot fatigue. Pilots and copilots are required to take turns sleeping, so that at least one pilot is always awake and alert. The other pilot will typically sleep in a bunk area behind the cockpit. There are two types of sleep that pilots are allowed to take during flights: Controlled napping: This is a short nap of up to 30 minutes, typically taken during periods of low workload. Controlled rest: This is a longer period of sleep, typically taken on long-haul flights. Controlled rest can last for several hours. Both controlled napping and controlled rest are carefully monitored by the pilots and the aircraft's autopilot system. The pilots will also wake each other up if necessary. It is important to note that pilots are not allowed to sleep during takeoff, landing, or other critical phases of flight. While it is rare for both pilots to fall asleep at the same time, it has happened in the past. In these cases, the aircraft's autopilot system will keep the plane flying safely until the pilots wake up. Overall, pilots and copilots are highly trained and experienced professionals who take their safety responsibilities very seriously. Sleeping during flights is an important part of staying alert and focused, and it helps to ensure the safety of all passengers and crew. this article is from google ❤❤ if i said anything wrong please tell me.
I think you will find that on long haul flights that crew can sleep BUT their spot is taken by another crew member while they take their rest break in the passenger cabin or better still, a special crew rest bay behind the cockpit. No one pilot is left alone in the cabin.
Bruh do some research before posting stuff like this because videos like this scare some flyers who don’t know the truth. Which if anyone reads this, PILOTS DO NOT SLEEP IN THE COCKPIT! Nor do they (& legally can’t) fly alone in commercial jets. They take turns flying to relieve a pilot.

This is not true. There is no alarm. A pilot must remain alert. There are checks for fuel burn navigation weather etc and radio communication with ground controllers that are continuously checked and rechecked during the flight
Didn't know 747-400 has prop levers. Crew alerting system not intended to wake up pilots but to let them know there's been no activity (radio freq change, flight management computer inputs, align heading bug if necessary etc) which happens on long haul international flights

That's a false information. The AP will be engaged as long as it will not interrupt. The aircraft will fly at the same flight level up to the last point of the flight plan and will circling around it until the fuel tank will empty.
1. Both pilots are NEVER both asleep. 2. On domestic flights they don’t sleep while on long haul flights there are multiple pilots who switch out. Stop making it like the pilots constantly sleep.
Listen to me now. I'm a retired commercial pilot and I've flown over 10 thousand hours. I cannot count the amount of times I've woken up only to see my co pilot is also asleep. I hope that makes everything absolutely crystal clear.
But it's not right. There could be a time when they could no longer override the auto pilot system as if it has a mind of its own like what happened to crashes before.
My dad used to fall asleep on a long cruise many times on auto. He always knew one of us " me or a brother" would get him up. I never heard any alarms.
@whitemonkey7932 shit, he used to send me down to the hanger to take the back 4 seats out. Told me I was preparing for the next load to turks. Then I'd go home or back to work and he'd go get his girlfriend, and they would go up, get out over the ocean on cruise, and get busy.
Actually most of it is wrong. It's true that in some situations one of the pilots will go to sleep leaving the other pilot in charge of both flight and radio communication, but never the both of them, and that's only during low risk period, like cruising over an ocean. On long haul flights, one or two more pilots will be brought on the flight so that everyone in the crew can get some rest during the flight. That rest is different, they actually get to go to a bunk bed and sleep for a few hours, while the first thing I mentioned is capped at 45 minutes, it's really meant as a power nap kind of thing. If you have any other questions or concerns, I believe @MentourPilot has really cool resources and community answering questions, or you can also ask me and I'll do my best to respond.
Hmm, i never heard a beep like this in msfs 2020 at long flights in A320neo or B747-8. But i certanly know that ATC pretty frequently asks pilots to change frequencies to hear their voice respond and make sure they didn't fall asleep, or to make that they didn't have decompression on board which is a lot worse.
You don't have to worry about any of this, it's all bs. The two pilots are never both asleep, there is always at least one pilot awake in charge of piloting the plane. On long haul flights, pilots have dedicated rest times. They bring extra pilots just for that. There is a procedure for pilots to take a nap while in the flight cabin, letting the other pilot take control of both the flight and the radio communications, but there is a procedure for that and it's capped at 45 minutes max and it only happens in low risk situations like a cruise over an ocean. If you have any concerns, you can ask me or you can go check out @MentourPilot, he has a cool community answering questions like that.

There is no alarm for auto pilot, the alarm is the TCAS system telling you to not freaking hit another plane. The pilots on a short flight stay awake and monitor the autopilot, but on long trans-Atlantic flights they usually do a sleep rotation on top of getting sleep pre flight
