From 2004-2011, I provided contracted IT support for airline clients which included 4 separate flight catering kitchens around the country including one (that no longer exists on World Way West) at LAX. While I never got to see the aircraft end of that operation, just seeing the massive operation behind the scenes was impressive. As you mentioned, the number of meals produced each day in a single facility is more than any restaurant (and even private large-scale catered events) could ever imagine doing in a single day. The fact that its a 24x7x365 operation just bogles the mind. My hat is certainly off to those whose tireless work is producing that quality product each day. Sadly, most of us will never see their hard work, with airlines reducing their meal service to meals for purchase in coach on domestic flights. I had my share of international and domestic business class travel during my time supporting the airlines, and back then the quality would easily match a 3-star or better restaurant, which is a challenge amongst itself, since the aircraft pressurization at altitude tends to make foods have an "off" taste, those executive chefs have their work cut out for them to make it not taste bland.
Rudy thoroughly enjoying himself at the end there with those stunning meals! Look how fresh everything is, I always wondered if they served frozen meals just warmed up on these flights, how wrong was I! That’s first class filming guys, 11K meals every day for a variety of Airlines!! Great Job Kevin and Rudy, I love these behind the scenes videos.
@lsgskychefs I want to acknowledge the incredible job your staff does. Everyone does their job so that the end result comes together and each passenger is fed. At each stage timing is essential. I have to say that if every passenger watched this video, they may not complain about in-flight meals ever again. The logistics of getting each passenger their meal is mind blogging and inspirational.
That was truly awesome! A true short documentary edited to keep viewers interested at all times, with great music, great shots, great content... This should be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film! Great job Kevin and Rudy!
And the Emmy goes to: Kevin and Rudy and Charlie. This was truly so darn good! Please, please, please more logistics and operations videos please. I love learning about the people and processes that make things flow like clockwork! Thank you!!
Thanks for the video, I always wanted to see the behind the scenes before a flight (food wise) crazy how they keep everything moving and ready on time 😊 the real hard workers are those behind the scenes
Fantastic!!!!! This is award winning content! I have always wondered what went on in that building as I spotted planes from the fence line at the Imperial Terminal back in the 80's and 90's. Thank you for bringing us on the inside and out on the tarmac!
Great video AVL!!! It brought back memories when I used to pick up the crew meals for our pilots from SkyChefs back in the day. They had great food in their breakroom. 😊
Kevin and Rudy truly impressive I love bts it's truly awesome to see the massive production on what it takes to feed the traveling public ....... I must say I'm a little jealous. You guys have so much fun. Thanks again for all your hard work for us.
What a great video Kevin & Rudy. Thank you for sharing this wonderful insight to what goes on behind the scenes. Another first for AVL. Keep up the grand work. See you soon. Forgot to say thank you to LSG for their amazing work & commitment to the cause.
All I have to say is WOW! I love the fact that you bring the planes to all of us week after week, but the fact that you’re bringing so much of the behind-the-scenes effort that it takes to make these planes come in day in and day out is absolutely amazing! Love the production quality on this from a fellow videographer. Keep up the great work!
Another outstanding and fascinating BTS@LAX video. I have always wondered how these catering operations work. Thanks for the peek behind the culinary curtain!
This is so very nice to see. All food for so many passengers. Amazing how everything is working. Thanks for one more amazing Behind the scenes!! Well Done Kevin & Rudy and the AVL team🙂👍🇸🇪🇺🇸🛫
Wow! That was seriously amazing! The food actually looked really tasty! Good thing I'm flying Delta One to Australia. I should get something yummy! Thanks for the video, boys! I really enjoyed it!
Very interesting BTS video!! You know it has to be a huge organization to get food and beverages on to all those planes but actually seeing it still blew my mind. Besides the live videos I'm really liking these BTS video. Good job Kevin & Rudy!! 👍👍👍
Thank you very much guys for the video. Truly impressive reminds me of The, loading and preparation of a cruise ship when you guys showed the A380 that reminds me of The, large, royal Caribbean cruise ships like harmony of the seas, and what it takes to load those ships and prep the food And wash the dishes. Incredible thanks for the video.
Airplane food gets a bad rap. I think most airplane food is very good. The only bad meal I ever had was a "fillet minion" that looked beautiful, but was dry and like eating a baseball.
I used to work at a different location for Sky Chef as a food checker. I'd be in that final hold up to ten hours a day, six days a week. It was hard work, and very stressful. But it was all worth it when I'd get to go into the cold food prep area and yell at the little old ladies every time something was wrong. Which was multiple times a day. Its the little things.
The logistics of menu planning, tasted and voted on, ingredients ordering, cooking, plate up, putting the food, drinks, utensils, snacks etc onto the plane, then putting the food tray together to finally serving the customer is mind boggling.
Awesome BTS footage of LSG Sky Chefs. Kevin & Rudy you knock this out of the park. And Jose loading an A321 in just 20 minutes was just amazing. Thank you for showing us viewers what team work really is all about.
I was always curious what the logistics are like for flight meals. I always thought they were a bunch of frozen meals microwaved before serving. It's so good to get some insight of the whole process. Thanks for this! I think your videos are offering some very valuable and entertaining behind the scenes education.
Really enjoyed this behind the scenes video!! It’s amazing to see what goes on while we are just watching the planes come and go - and the food looked delicious!! thanks for another great video!!
The organization of the kitchen and the dedication of the food preparers and delivery teams is amazing. Thanks for showing this Team AVL. Now I know how and where my Miso Sea Bass meal for my flight to Tokyo next week is being prepared. Any idea how many teams are working at one time loading different aircraft?
What an amazing tour. Catering to different airlines must be a crossword puzzle. Imagine AA flight getting cutlery with Delta's logo. Kudos's to the hard working staff
Food and catering aside for a moment...that A380 was flipping huge! You can only appreciate the size when a person or car is beside it. Great video, Kevin and Rudy..it made me very hungry, lol! Lucky you for getting to sample some food!!!
What a great BTS Video! Next time I am on a plane, I am now going to know how much work goes into preparing the meal that I am eating! Thanks so much Kevin and Rudy for bringing us this great content
This is a fantastic video. My favorite segment was with the A380 (my favorite plane)! Kevin’s incredible camera skills recently involving departures of the A380 on the south side of LAX inspired me to add one with the Korean Air livery to my collection. Thanks AVL crew for all that you bring us!❤️👍🏾👍🏾 18:26
WOW! Excellent production guys! With 11K meals per day, that is an average of 458 meals completed per hour, or nearly 8 per minute. What is also amazing is that they cater to SAN, SNA, BUR and ONT from that one kitchen! I remember seeing the trucks traveling down Imperial Blvd, so those were outbound and inbound trucks to and from the other airports then.
Such a wonderful and comprehensive insight into the behind the scenes of airline catering - WOW!!! Thank you so much to Kevin & Rudy for taking us with you - yummy. Hello from London : - )
