Bless these people for realizing what they'd stumbled upon and going to the effort to preserve it. Along with its sheer handmade artistry, this stuff is essential American history that tends to be overlooked or dismissed these days.
They should now digitize this poster art as hires photos because paper will eventually decay by light and environmental effects. Then someone could retouch the digitized version to approximate what it originally looked like.
Thank goodness someone all those years ago had the conscientiousness to cover it, rather than gloss over it or strip it off. And hats off to this guy for restoring a beautiful piece if social history - just beautiful.
He was wise enough to recognize the huge poster's significance as a piece of US circus history, the spectacular quality of the lithography, the excellent condition of the print, and the tremendous potential it had to draw patrons. The thing certainly has lived up to its potential!
Bless this many for taking the time and money to preserve this! I hope more people see this and realize that you can be rewarded for caring about history. Not everything needs to be turned into a white/beige/grey box.
Stunning hidden treasure history; well done segment by all involved; feel fortunate to have viewed this video; an uplifting tribute to our beloved ancestors, which involved genuinely nice individuals sharing in the joy of an unexpected discovery.
For everyone who was taught lithography in seventh grade imagine doing an entire mural, coloring it and putting it up on a wall that size. Now do it again and again for every major stop on a circus tour. Amazing and rare piece of art from an often persecuted culture!
@marlinweekley51 IKR! Or other pieces. These were meant to be ephemeral, like movie posters but aren't portable so they are rather niche in the art and history worlds. If the owner sells I hope it gets preserved.
@@ivechang6720 if it’s stays any sort of public venue I’ll bet it will be if Dr no other reason than the amount of attention the venue would get. I bet the bar owners business is way better than had there been no amazing art work on his wall. 😊👍
@@billymacktexasdetective5827 Art doesn't work that way, at it's best. One must look at the real deal when possible. Art is not always a photograph (their big piece isn't!) & is never a handful of t.v. clips seen on a monitor.
I'm starting another of mine hand-painted mural in two days here on Long Island-nothing compared to this inspiring piece...will have to make the trek one of these days
What a beautiful find. It’s so lucky the wall was simply covered. And he saved it and sharing it. What an amazing man. We had an old mural on one of our historic bustling. The painted mural must not have been part of the historic identity because the new business painted over it - it’s all white now. I understand wanting to have your own vision for a space but you’re moving into a historic building.
Brilliant! Glad they appreciate what they found, art like this used to be all over, made by hand, before vinyl put traditional hand made/painted signage out of business.
We have a local farm supply feed store that had a similar incident. They were doing construction and found paper poster form the 1840's for a fair that featured equestrian events and races. It was a black and white engraving of really high quality, super detailed art. They put a glass frame over it and left it for customers to see.

Now THAT IS AWESOME!!.... The printing history of how it was printed would be awe inspiring to modern digital printers... that would have cost a small fortune to have done by a master printer... you first had to have an artist draw and color everything... then cut it apart into individual printing plate sizes (nor sure what that would have been, maybe 11x17 max.) then each plate had to be engraved for 4 different colors... the ink had to be mixed exactly the same for each color for every panel and then they all had to be glued together so that all the artwork edges met up... DAMN...
I’ve never seen circus posters this big with so much historical detail and 2 extinct fish!! What a wonderful job this man did to preserve it. Circus life is unique
That's awesome that he decided to preserve and keep it...too often we just tear stuff down without any regard to its significance or worth. I love antiques and that poster is so beautiful...so happy they kept it!!!
Truely amazing piece of History ! Hidden Gem that will pay off in spades with the amount of people coming to see it restored and displayed . Cant wait to see it in person some day !
What an awesome discovery and a great piece of history. I really like the style of artwork and the colours. I could spend hours admiring this mural and looking at the various details.

I was thinking that but it might ruin what's left. But maybe they could use the original & make a recreation to hang up. They could also use it to make some souvenirs too. I'm sure other folks would love to be able to buy a souvenir poster in a smaller form.

I agree to this!! This was neat even though they found it ten years ago!
Yes!...just report the damn news findings and that's it 💕
Trump people don't want any foreigners coming to look at that in their town.
✌️
Okay, that's enough peace and sanity for now. Back to the real world you go! 😂
Bless that man for preserving this!
Nothing makes preservation work more than money, and the extra business to his bar absolutely makes it worth it for him. Win/win.
Should photograph it extensively and make a digital recreation of it as historically accurately as possible
