Love your channel. With so much bad stuff in the world it’s nice to take a fun trip down memory lane hosted by a fellow midwesterner
Donkey Kong on the Colecovision was my first experience of a cheat/easteregg in a video game. Don’t know if the trick worked on other ports but on the first level, you could climb the first broken ladder halfway up, then go back down and take one step left. You would then jump while holding right. When done properly, you would jump right and fall through the floor. If you waited around 15 seconds, Mario would suddenly super-jump from underneath the screen, all the way to the top girder. I thought that trick was pretty cool and would always show my friends.
Honey for gods sake wake up! Patmanqc just released The History of Donkey Kong Part 2 Before Christmas!!!!
Are they in a coma?
Sweet part 2. Gonna watch this now before I go to sleep
24:20 Not the Pokey. The 7800 only has TIA (2600) for sound. There are only 2 games that had a pokey in the cartridge and that is ballblazer and Commando. The PK in Donkey Kong PK homebrew for the 7800 is for Pokey.
Great video !! I am Shocked that the Amstrad version is one of the best !!
Great video, Mr PatMan.
I would love to see a video on the Super/Gameboy Donkey Kong. I loved it
"Happy little games!" Always happy for sure!
Great Part 2! Thanks Patman. High quality vid.
my favourite channel on UA-cam
Great history of DK continued, Patman! Thanks! At 13:10 I have never seen that game in action for SuperNES, but that looks like a fun update version of Donkey Kong. I really enjoyed those arcade levels so it's good to see more variations. Lots of Donkey Kong gaming variety to enjoy.
Patmannn! Hope everything is well over there and happy holidays to you Patman
Patman QC videos! The gift that keeps on giving! Looking forward to seeing more of the Donkey Kong content!
Great video. I owned the Commodore 64 version of Donkey Kong back in the day.
as always, great job. great humor. always learn new things about the games i grew up with.
Awesome timing. I was just re-watching your Batman Robocop, and Terminator videos lol.
RoboCop vs Terminator is an awesome game if you get a chance to play it.
That's awesome
Super! Iwas eagerly awaiting part two. :)
Love donkey kong I actually own a cocktail
Cabinet (that does have some issues) but still is really fun great job on the video too
I'm so jealous, you're lucky to have a real cabinet. I hope you can get it fixed. Thanks for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
yes Patman! Pt2
Oh hell yeah🤟
Last week on PatmanQC. I love it!😅
Glad you're enjoying it
Minor correction at 4:40 you say this is the first game you play as the ape himself. That would be Donkey Kong jr. Fun fact, the Donkey Kong of DK country is DK jr. Cranky Kong (the old one saving your game) is the DK from the original and he is old in DK Country.
Great vid as always PatMan!
Thanks to you I now know what a Japanese speaker impersonating an Italian stereotype sounds like!
Always love the nba jam intro
Yes I'd love a more in-depth episode about Donkey Kong 94 please.
Great video and channel, thanks
I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
Wohooo part 2!!
Hunchback and Mr Do used to be my favorites back in the day.
Well done patman,, nice homage.
Thank you kindly
The different ports analysis is always great. For decades it's been easy to take a relatively simple game like Donkey Kong for granted as running on any phone or modern device. But back in the mid to late 80s you might be lucky to have a single home computer or console to play it on, you just had to make do with what you had. Even the 4 colour Dos versions with PC speaker bleeps as sound could be well worth playing if it's all you had access to. Hence arcade perfect ports being considered a gold standard for gaming right up till the mid to late 90s.
Very informative! Looking forward to more ideas from you! 😻👅
When I was just a kid about nine or ten years old when Donkey Kong first came out my family went on vacation to a Florida resort and the pool area had a Donkey Kong machine where you could play for free, just hit start. It's the only thing I can remember from that vacation. Good times.
Your videos are always so inspiring! I look forward to seeing more episodes! 🍓🌺
My first time playing the classic arcade Donkey Kong was way back in the early 80s. As a kid, my parents chose the Intellivision over the Atari, so that's the version we had, but I did play the Atari version plenty at a cousin's house. Always loved the classic DK games and was always looking for the perfect port. I think Champ Kong came closest from the ones I played, but now that you can run a near perfect version of it on the Switch, the rest are just for pure nostalgia. I think my favorite version of it will always be the GameBoy one though.
PatmanQC, Nintendo Brought Back 12 Classic NES Games for the Game Boy Advance in 2004
Here's the List...
SUPER MARIO BROS.
THE LEGEND OF ZELDA
ZELDA II: THE ADVENTURE OF LINK
EXCITEBIKE
DONKEY KONG
ICE CLIMBER
METROID
DR. MARIO
PAC-MAN
XEVIOUS
BOMBERMAN
CASTLEVANIA
@22 mins..i had the vic-20 version, and my friend had the 2600 version, and i was very happy with my vic
all 4 levels, and the the game play was quick to get used to
i have played it again(emulated) within the past 5 years, and it still holds up, in my opinion. nostalgia i suppose lol
I had the Buckner and Garcia "pac man fever" ALBUM! Talented guys, every song 10 out of 10!
Yes, a video on DK '94 ❤
Another interesting thing about Mario vs Donkey Kong was it originally was envisioned to be an enhanced remake of Donkey Kong 94 with plans to have a level editor using the game cube you can find some screenshots of this prototype but no known leaks of the game in this state sadly. In Japan the game had an e-reader feature, it was disabled in the us version, it would unlock special levels in the game, however unlike super Mario advance 4, these levels were already coded in, the us version has these as well but different levels and the e-reader menu needs to be hacked in.
Donkey Kong on the original Gameboy to this day is still my favorite Donkey Kong. Not to be compared with Donkey Kong Country; totally different animal…
Thanks for these! And I, for one, would like you to go into the GB version of DK more. It's one of my favorite GB games.
Both parts were very good. The Game Boy version you mentioned was my favorite Game Boy game, I'd be interested in seeing that video about it you were considering.
I agree, it was one of the best Game Boy games. I'm hoping to cover the Game Boy soon
Thanks Pat man can you do the history of bionic commando? My favorite is the history of Ninja gaiden it's one of my favorites
I remember a constant connection between Punch out and Donkey Kong, all the up to actually fighting Donkey Kong.
Please give us a DK '94 vid! So much packed into a gameboy game!
I heard the creators of Crash Team Racing, made the first stage in Diddy Kong Racing on ps1 to get a better understanding of kart physics for a Crash racing game
When I was a little kid, I thought Donkey Kong was some kind of weird Pac Man clone, 'cause the fireballs slightly resembled the ghosts, and turned blue when Mario grabbed the hammer. The 7800 version isn't that bad, though the PK homebrew is far better. Seems like it, as well as DKjr and Mario Bros, were ports of the Famicom/NES versions of the games, as they share many of the same quirks. I think Atari put em out because they had a license agreement that was still active at the time, and they could also stick it to Nintendo in their own small way.
DK in the MS Dos port has some creepypasta potential
had the Atari 400 DK and it was great. I believe it was the first home council with 4 levels
With Popeye entering public domain, now would be time to release the arcade game on Nintendo switch arcade archives.
The sounds from the 2600 they use in
Movies and shows.
One major missing thing, D2K: Jumpman’s Return, basically Donkey Kong’s Ms. Pac-Man
The Nintendo Famicom Disk sytem of Donkey Kong didn't have the Pie stage. The version that did was a wii version that added it and som extra's to the NES rom. It was avaliable with a limited edition wii in europe. They later added that version to the Nintendo DS e-shop.
Donkey Kong in the Intellivision version looks like giant smiley face with legs and buck teeth
While the fan-made port of the 2600 version shows that a better version was possible, I don't think it was possible back then, due to publishers wanting things when they wanted them, and using the tiniest rom-size possible.
The ZX Spectrum & the MSX ports, make DK's face look like a skull
Patman! Hey!
U can hear the DK rap in the background of the Super Mario cgi movie, when he fights DK
Patmannn!
🥳
What happened to the Jack Hammer in the Colecovision elevator stage?
Donkey-Me on Game Jolt is the best for playing movie versions of Donkey Kong like Star Wars and Exorcist Kong ;)
Those silicon graphics cpus brought us Jurassic park graphics too
That’s a great connection.
Sweet!!!
Mario's walking sound in the Commodore 64 version, sounds like misquitoes to me
The 75m stage was in the Super Smash Bros series
DKC trilogy Deep dive miniseries please.
Awesome video as always Pat.
I have to correct you on one thing though. Diddy Kong's name isn't Diddy. It's Hatty. Go watch Dorkly Donkey Kong meets his agent and you'll understand and agree.
Seth Rogan said he would love to voice DK in a spinoff movie, or series
The king!
When I got a second-hand Intellivision back in 2002, Donkey Kong was included with it. I was horrified by how poorly it turned out as I had expected better from the Intellivision! At least the Atari 2600 did a better job of resembling the original characters in terms of sprites!
Also, that's not the POKEY chip in the Atari 7800 version. It's the TIA, a.k.a. the Atari 2600 sound chip. Only BallBlazer and Commando used the POKEY.
11:34 This is blatant Wii U erasure, and I will not stand for it.
The Ocean C64 version's walking fire look like little chicks.
24:24 … did you say the “POKEY”’ tried its hardest in regards to the abysmal sound? Or did I just hear “POKEY”?
I ask because the 7800 lacked a sound chip. With the 7800 containing a 2600 inside (what with the compatible cartridge slot and joystick ports) the powers that be decided that the 2600 sound would be just fine for the 7800. And that comes from the 2600’s TIA chip.
A shame, I know.
The thought was make the one time expense of the 7800 lower and milk people for the games. Games that wanted good sound could include a POKEY inside the cartridge. Ballblazer did it but I think few other games did. And I highly doubt Donkey Kong was one such.
A shame, I know.
SUPER DONKEY KONGA
That made me laugh out loud, good job
Boom shakalaka !
I beg you patman to do the original pac man if you can.
And that's how u play donkeyyy konggg😄
Poor Diddy! ;)
😂😅
Diddy King Racing was arguably better than Mario kart.
Atari 5200 has donkey Kong
Sockmaster transcoded the game from the Z80 processor to the 6809 processor and produced a nearly perfect arcade version for the Tandy Color Computer 3. ua-cam.com/video/UNzgMeFsj5Y/v-deo.html&ab_channel=ogStevieStrow
I was hoping to see KC Munchkin from Odyssey 2 in this. It’s somewhat of a DK knockoff
No, it's actually Pac-Man knockoff where you eat things
@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries my bad, I meant to say Pickaxe Pete
