    If you've never grown cue ball squash before you will love it! This was my first year with them. They were by far the best producer for me. They are quite a mild flavor, they are great pan fried as well as roasted with a bit of garlic, oil and Parmesan cheese. Oh- they make the absolute moisted zucchini bread ever😎.
    Many blessings to you as always💞

    The idea of the sun jam is very interesting, I’ve never heard of it. I can see that the flavors would be more concentrated and intense from the dehydration.

    Back in the sixties, the ladies that worked at the bank with me used to combine all the chicken, potatoes, carrots, onions, and a dry soup mix into a shallow glass dish covered with plastic wrap and put it in the window of our car during the summer while we worked. Supper 'cooked' by itself and was ready when we drove home. Knowing what I do now, I would NEVER do that but I don't know of anyone that got sick doing this (Florida summers) but the risk is too much. Not exactly Sun Jam but I don't think you were weird doing it at all. It is worth trying down here in out 113F heat just now. My unle did fry an egg on the concrete driveway just for fun one time - no one ate it but we were amazed! Thank goodness that today we have slow cookers!

    You could cover jam with a one quarter to one half inch of melted paraffin and then cover with a metal lid with screw down ring to make it shelf stable. When you open it, the wax comes off the top of the jam in one solid chunk when prying the wax edge with a table knife. Refrigerate the jam in the jar after removing the wax. My grandma would wash the parrafin wax chunk, rinse well, dry, and remelt it to reuse it again.

    Nasty wasps! Honey looks amazing. Your sun jam almost looks like blackberry. Beautiful color and texture. I imagine those thumb print oat cookies my mom made with a dollop of that in there and a cup of tea! Garden is taking off so good now. Yes it is hot. Things are looking good. They are just starting to hay here too - letting it cure is so important. I have a stack from last year that was put up damp (they thought it was dry) and has heated - luckily no fire ...yet. Need to separate it so it can hopefully cool down and then figure out what to do with it. Maybe sell it off super cheap...or get some feeders. Good video.

You are so far north from me that I’m really curious. I know nothing about raising bees and collecting honey.

    Hey Chelsea! :) I just picked about 3 lbs of haskaps yesterday so your sun jam looks fantastic - any idea of ratio of honey to berries and qty of lemon juice or are you just going by taste? We're going to have 30+ temps here in NE Alberta so the timing here is perfect. Can't wait to try this! Thanks so much

    • @LittleMountainRanch
      @LittleMountainRanch  15 днів тому +1

      Just add as much honey to get the sweetness you like. The lemon juice adds some pectin so you can add or omit it depending on your preference. You don’t have to worry about ‘safety’ with this once since you’ll be freezing it anyway.😊

    Wow thanks I have never seen any jam made that way. Too bad about your bees. I hope you can find some wild bees to replace them. The wasps were nuts here in Edmonton too last year and a friend of mine lost her hives to them. Also the wasps were behaving weirdly and actually attacked me when my son and I were chopping down sunflowers stalks and heads to feed the birds in October. We had to make a run for our garage and I had to smack my hair repeatedly with alot if force to kill them I was stung a lot and had to go to the Dr, who prescribed a cortisol salve for my skull. The bumps lasted right up to June when I got another prescription and that seemed to remove the venom. It was hell for a year. It can't easily dissipate because of the blood brain barrier. I wonder what type of wasps they were? Wish I had saved one. Loved your peonies, too. 🎉
