- Learn how to make custom sticker cut lines in Adobe Illustrator.
Cut lines are used to tell printers (like us) the exact shape to cut your custom stickers. When ordering from Sticker Mule, we automatically determine your cut lines based on the shape of your artwork. This tutorial is for anyone who wants more control over their cut line shape or is curious how we do it. 🤓

What if I wanted to make one vector with cut lines, save as eps file, to later print stickers in several different sizes from said file? How do I keep the offset from changing as I increase or decrease artwork size? Because if I change from a 3 inch sticker to a 5 inch sticker my offset also increases. Or do you suggest making a separate file for each sticker size?? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
thank you so much !
Very useful!
This is awesome thank you. Just wond ring if there is a current video?
THANK U IT WORKED! :]]]
After spending $500 with signarama and they returned 500 completely different cut stickers,,, time to take matters into my own hands,, this is brilliant.
Mine doesn’t do outline stroke, I went to appearance but when i did offset path it turned it black and didn’t do my whole image that I want. Can you please help TIA
I can't get the bounding box to delete after ungrouping, so when I combine them all it turns into a black box. How do I fix this?
thank you very much
Thank you.
Thank you so so so muchhhhhh!!
2:29 how do you get the image trace to go from black and white to the original color again? my image is stuck black and white atm
Verdaderamente interesante!!!
I used this tutorial a while ago and it worked perfectly for me but now when I try it the "Unite" does not work for me when I use it the second time after setting the offset path. Any idea why? I follow each step exactly as in the video
Let’s say the sticker size is 4x4inch, does the art board need to exact 4x4inches or 1-3 more inches ? Also should I worry about my bleeds?
Thanks alot
How to print an RGB image as a sticker? I'm given a PNG file and is asked to print stickers with it.
hello, your video is very helpful for me. but im wondering can you do the offset path inside the sticker (not outside like shown in the video)? may i know how to do it? thank you very much in advance 😄
Set the offset to a negative amount 😀
Are we allowed a copy of the proof for keepsake? After we order
You Guys are the Bomb
Question: What file format should we export printable stickers????
you can check with your manufacturer but usually they accept .ai or .pdf files
is it necessery to make our design on illustrator only ? or does it also work with design made on clip studio paint or anything else ?
This is the best video I have seen on this topic.
I had another question, What if I wanted to add a cut out to an image?
Would I make a separate cut line layer and then merge the two or keep them separate?
Good question! You could keep them both on the same cut line layer, but no need to merge the objects
ugh thank you
Would this be the same step by step on illustrator on iPad
Hi. How do you smooth out/clean your cut path around the letters at the bottom? It’s so perfect. I use the curvature tool and move points 1 by 1 and it’s not exact.
Same question I have. Did you ever get an answer or figure it out?
Hi. What am I doing wrong? I click on Outline and the entire png disappears. Does it need to be a different format? When I did get it to do the outline somehow, it was really jagged with a ton of points on it instead of a nice smooth line. How do I fix this?
I'm not able to smooth out the line at the end. If I delete the anchor points, it leaves open spaces in those places. Selecting one point and hitting delete, deletes the whole outline.
Thanks! Very helpful!
How do you get the shadow behind in your proofs?
Apply a drop shadow (Effect > Stylize > Drop Shadow)
@@Stickermule Thanks! So quick on the reply. You guys have top notch customer service. The stickers I got look great as well!
Thanks for the video and the fact that it's straight to the point. But I have an issue. How do you get the color back after the image tracing?
For this tutorial, you should only be using image trace to get the shape of the design. Make sure you switch the result to a stroke with no fill and still have your original raster image below.
How in the he’ll do I get rid of the bounding box on the iPad
Gooooooood
Ah...interesting and great! So what if the sticker needs a hole in the middle?
Why my object cannot show (become square white) when i press cmd + Y, please help and reply
How to make a simple square outline? I have some stickers to cut but cannot make a simple square "stroke-alike" outline :P
The colors dont seem to come back after converting into a vector :/
great tutorial! but i have a question, what type of document do i need to use? does it have to be PS ir can it just be PNG?
That's exactly the same question i have on my mind after watching this vid
I really need that answer...
I tried and it works with png, you just need to make some selections
@@amzy55 png? I dont think we can use png as vector format
I wanna know too
I’ll like to remove or not to have the white edge at all. What other options do I have?

1/16 is too big for my tiny sticker on a page with others?
May i ask why my image trace not working? It is grayed out
What is the different create path-> outline and expand?
They do the same thing, but "create outlines" is specifically for text.
Hi, i'm able to image trace and expand, but when i click on unite the whole layer just turns white. How can i solve this?
There is likely a background object that you need to delete first.
which cutter is used for this type of sticker ?
A secret one that we keep in our secret lab
Hello, do you do 1:1?
I'm working with a png image and text. For some reason the png unselects itself when i click on the 'unite' option, only influencing the text. I did the whole image trace thing, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. ...... Help?
Did you expand and delete the background after using Image Trace?
@@Stickermule Omg, I'm dumb, completely disregarded those steps xD I got it now, thank you!
@@acek8834 no problem! 😉
Hi, I want to do the cut line to a word bc it's a sticker but I can't , please help. It won't let me use Image trace and when I outline it get whites and I can't use it
Try deleting the white box with the direct select tool
This video might help ua-cam.com/video/AUxtDCyaPFg/v-deo.html
How did you clean up the bottom line to make it all straight?
Make a separate object with the Pen tool or Rectangle tool and then merge it (from the Pathfinder window) with your main cut line.
Sticker Mule i tried that and nothing happend. :-(
Says the filter produced no results. Please select two or more filled and overlapping paths.
@@sassy01ss make sure you have the rectangle and the new shape both selected. Hopefully that works 🤞
@@Stickermule I tried this error same, use pathfinder and united shapes, this puts the 2 outlines together, i had to select both lines.
After I finish all the steps how do i resize the sticker?
You can select all and resize while holding shift to retain the proportions
How to save these as pdf file
I'm stuck there`s something wrong please help

can you make a colored cut line?
If you wanted color on the edge of your sticker, you could make a separate stroke beneath the cut line, then increase the weight and change the color.
Other than that, the color of the cut line doesn't matter.
I'm having trouble deleting the bounding box. I get to the ungrouping part and then I'm lost. Can someone please help me?
When I unite my layers it just makes a black box instead of creating an outline around my svg image
I want to know this too
