New Patreon member here! Love all your videos, and I’m enjoying a Galison Christmas puzzle right now (“Winter Lights”). Thanks for sharing the puzzling joy! Also, my husband’s family is from Sweden, and we spent yesterday making sandbakkelse - delicious little Christmas tarts!
Oh my. As a swede my brain broke for a second when I was hit with swedish words. I can help with some of the translation as a thank you for such a cozy video: 1. Gula asken = "The yellow box". "Gul" means yellow, and a "Ask" is a box that you can close. 2. Aristospel = "Best game(s)". "Aristo-" means "best", and "spel" means game (or games) in a broad sense of the word. 3. Gammalt fiskeläge = "Old fishing spot / place". "Gammalt" means old. "Fiske" means fishing. "Läge" means a spot or a place. We usually use the word for places with special properties, like in this case, it's great for fishing. I will update this list if I see more swedish words :) tack för mig och ha det gött Karen!
Läge is translated wrong. It means more the word "position". As in you can use it to describe a geographical position or even a persons position(sitting or standing for example)
You’re right Karen, the small holes are where they have held together several copies of the puzzle while cutting. Puzzle Michèle Wilson do the same thing, they will cut out around half a dozen copies at the same time and hold them together with fine nails.
Oh wow, that’s fascinating. Makes sense though. Here I was imagining that they carefully and lovingly cut out one puzzle at a time. Obviously that makes no sense business wise. But I still like the way my brain imagines it 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing this information much appreciated ❤
I'm not from Sweden but from Finland, so extremely happy to have a shoutout to our country here 😁 what a cool puzzle, the colours seemed really vibrant despite the notable age of the whole thing! And hope you enjoyed the Fazer chocolate bar haha, it's one of our national treasures 🍫
Ooh, you could use Alex Trebek's old scroll saw to cut out the shape of the missing piece, then decorate it to match so the piece would be fully replaced! That could be a fun way to show off the scroll saw :)
I started watching your videos six months ago, and was inspired to organize a puzzle group - we meet once a month, put together 1000 piece puzzles, and have a grand old time. We've been using baking trays to hold pieces, but those trays look much better! Just wanted to let you know that your videos have brought our little friend group so much joy :)
Those animal shapes were such a fun addition! I want to applaud the person who designed the cut 😄 No bonus points for me since I'm not in Sweden, but I got a nice surprise since I am in Finland! Hope you enjoyed the chocolate, Fazer is hands down my favorite brand 😊
I'm actually a Swedish woman watching this in Sweden. If you want music from Sweden from the 1940's you can look up these artists: Jussi Björling, Evert Taube, Alice Babs, Gullan Bornemark, Carl Gärhard and Edward Person. The chocolate is the best brand ever from Finland. Their Cafe Fazer in Helsinki is so beloved and famous.
I love how in recent videos (as far as I can recall?) you've kept the audio of placing the pieces in their spots. It's so satisfying to hear the pieces click together!! Good editing call, Karen hehe
I bought my little sister a Dimond Art multipack for Christmas last year and every time she finishes one she sends me a photo. It makes me happy and they are really beautiful art pieces.
It looked as though, even without the pieces fitting tightly, there weren't a bunch of false fits. And it was satisfying to see them wiggled into place.
I’m from Sweden and saw many of these kinds of wooden puzzles with random piece shapes and no guiding picture in my grandparents home when I was little (they were alive in the 40s but I certainly wasn’t). Fun thing about the puzzle company Aristospel is that it was run by two sisters who started it in 1936. Fun to read about women in the puzzle business 80 years ago :)
I love watching your videos! I have only done a few 500 piece puzzles before but purchased your puzzle last week to support the channel :) It arrived yesterday and I love it! I know it's going to take awhile but hopefully I'll be able to complete it
I just spent 1/2 an hour watching a puzzle being put together while listening to some chill music and Karen speaking, nice! That puzzle is quite well made no wonder it is still around all these years later. Nice video!
The background music is so relaxing and the clicking of the puzzle on top so tingly. 😅 I already know I will watch this video a few times before I fall asleep. 🥰
Just found your videos for the first time. Haven't done puzzles since a child (I am now 80 ) you have made me want to get started again WOW, you explain everything so well. You are such a joy to watch, happy young girl. How many puzzles do you have ...have you had ? ❤️
Sweden: That was so lovely to watch Karen. I have 4 wooden puzzles which I've actually bought from a specialist shop on Etsy in the USA and they are my pride and joy in my collection. They all have their own unique cut and their own special whimsy shapes, to match the subject of the puzzle. Putting together a wooden jigsaw is infinitely more mindful than the usual puzzles. The actual act of dropping a piece into its slot and the sound of the piece dropping is so fulfilling! Looking forward to your next vid, Karen! 🥰
Really nice, vintage image that looks especially nice on wood. Even though it wasn’t a Christmas puzzle, per se, it lent itself to the nostalgic feelings of Christmas 🎄 Thank you to your viewer in Sweden! ❤️
As a swedish speaking finn, this episode was definitely a treat :) as for what they would have played in Sweden at the time the puzzle was made, the Swedish version of "Silent Night! Holy Night" is definitely a likely candidate, so full points there, lol
Love the cozy vibe! This reminded me of an antique wooden puzzle my dad owned. A small puzzle illustrating different dog breeds, where the background pieces were randomly cut, but the dogs themselves were whole. My sister and I liked to play with the wooden dog figures. Just looked it up and it was the Victory “Dog-Wood” puzzle. Had to buy a copy for myself for Christmas. Thanks for your wonderful videos!
Hi karen, My father had this puzzle that Tower Press put out (English company) (still extremely old but not wooden). If you type in Tower Press puzzles, this image will come up and then perhaps you would have the missing detail to copy. Hope this helps. I collect Tower Press puzzles, the old painting ones.
Karen is the entire package this year! Thank you so much for blessing us with your brand and calmness. Merry Christmas!! Grab your favorite spiced warmed beverage and bask in the wholesome feelings of all your puzzles and puzzler friends.
I am so thrilled that Diamond Art Club sponsored this video! I have been diamond painting for several years but have just recently found Diamond Art Club. Their kits are the best on the market. I’ve bought from many different sellers online and recently bought my first DAC kit a few weeks ago. I was blown away by how different the canvas was compared to the cheap diamond painting kits found at other places. Plus, you get fun extra supplies in their tool kit pouches. Their product is far superior to anything else I have purchased. I highly recommend their kits! (No, I am not a DAC employee, just a silly new fan!)
I love the cozy vibes of this video and of course the puzzle! The sound of the wooden pieces clicking together is so satisfying. Wooden puzzles have such charm to them, especially the cute shaped pieces and when they’re handcut. Great video as always!
I really enjoyed this video. It's nice to see you relaxed and enjoying it. I love how a viewer from Sweden sent you this special puzzle and that you chose it for your Christmas 🎄 video.
Your Christmas spectacular ranks right up there with Charlie Brown and Charles Dickens! Enjoyed the music and festive atmosphere. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Karen!
"This should be easy to find... and this should also be easy to find." Then cut straight into putting those two pieces into the puzzle. That was a great edit 🙂
I am in Sweden! I definitely wasn’t alive in the 40s though. Fun to see some Swedish puzzles! I like old wooden puzzles with those shapes. We had some when I was a kid and I also did some at my grandparents house and so on. Now I buy if I find cheap in thrift shops. But I think I’m going to keep an eye out for some bigger ones. 600 pieces sounds fun! Most I’ve made were pretty small.
You might enjoy Hello Fish's wooden puzzles. They're a bit pricey, but they're gorgeous, and I highly recommend them. They tend to be far smaller than these, but they're quite a challenge, at least to me xD
At the front of the box it says "Gula asken" in Swedish means yellow box. "Fiske läge", I would translate it to a fishing spot/place. I live in Sweden, so bonus point for me 💛💙🇸🇪
This was an incredible generous gift to send you..just the historic value..I think you did extremely well filming, editing slow to fast to close...I've watch a few other puzzle channels and you by far are more enjoyable to watch..you did this puzzle proud, lovely watching..I also feel you honestly had a fun time doing it..great job
It was Very satisfying to watch it go together and how cool to build a puzzle that is 80 years old! I need a picture to complete a puzzle, so to watch you put this together without any guide in 5 hours and 20 minutes just blows my mind! You have a great eye for tiny details in the pieces. Fantastic job! 😃✨ I enjoyed your Christmas video.
I loved the sound of the pieces going in - a gentle and muted "fump". Sometimes with other puzzles, the "kathunk" is really loud and percussive and interrupts the chill peaceful vibe of watching you put the puzzles together (but I know some people love that sound!!). Very cool to see this puzzle make its way to you all the way from Sweden. Can't believe it's 80-something years old and in such good condition. Have a lovely holiday season Karen. Thanks for the videos.
Before someone throws a fit, because they probably will. With the diamond painting, those aren’t rhinestones, they are usually resin or acrylic “diamonds”, aka drills. Although some kits do have crystals and even rhinestones in them sometimes. Welcome to the diamond painting world!
That puzzle does look like fun to make. My father made me two hand cut wooden puzzles when I was very young (3-4) and I wish I still had them. I was alive in the 40s so I get some bonus points, but I've never been to Sweden.
The little bits of sweater cuff, the wooden pieces, the classical jazzy (could have been 50’s) music, it’s the first time I’ve felt “the spirit” this year! Thank you, Karen! Was going to suggest we all send her some decorations. But then she just has more “”stuff””” to store.
I recently found your channel and it reignited my love for puzzles, it had been about a year since I did my last puzzle and after watching your videos I went out for 6 new (to me) puzzles that are more challenging than ones I’ve done in past, you make it look so easy!!! What takes you six hours is taking me like 40. I got puzzles that are like all purple with just varying shades and repeating pattern. I used to stray away from those knowing they were harder but watching you preserver through tough puzzle makes me want to just keep going. I love your channel and I can’t wait to buy your new puzzle I’m ordering it this weekend :)
Omg! Karen doing one of the Gula asken (meaning literally "the yellow box") puzzles - that is so exciting! I love doing these kinds of old wooden puzzles and having no idea what the image looks like until you actually do the puzzle. The descriptions can be quite quizzical and the image can really surprise you. I have one I haven't done yet where the description is "The colonel narrates" and I'm imagining this picture where an old man is yapping on, to a group of fairly uninterested younger people, but who knows😄
Just thought Id say I was inspired and bought a puzzle and did my first ever 500 piece puzzle in about 15 hours. It was so fun! Thank you Karen for your generousity and fun while making these videos. You are a great help :)
I love wooden puzzles! They are much more expensive but they are generally heirloom quality. They'll outlast me, that's for sure! The whimsy pieces and general uniqueness of puzzle piece shape make a harder challenge than you'd imagine. So, even if they are pricier for fewer pieces, they do take longer to put together than a regular cardboard puzzle with normal piece shapes. I wonder if the design was a poster that the company purchased from the UK for their puzzles? Also, my theory is the holes are from manufacturing...maybe they held the wood in place while the shapes were being cut out? Never been to Sweden, but it'd be fun to visit there!
This one was very soothing and relaxing to watch! Vintage woodcut puzzles are so beautiful. I’m watching from Minnesota, which is pretty much the “Sweden” of the United States! ☺️
I remember when I told you diamond paintings. I’m glad you like it. Many other companies to choose from. You can also do custom paintings from some of the companies.
It was enjoyable watching you have so much fun with this puzzle. Even though I haven't been a puzzler up to this point, but my wife and I are going to try a puzzle over the holidays. Wish our relationship luck. And happy holidays!
I am here for my Swedish bonus points 😂 Such a fun video. My family have a little collection of old wooden puzzles similar to the one you put together. Mostly bought at various flee markets. They are so much fun to put together, and the unique piece cuts always makes it a bit of a challange.
What a cozy video 🙂 it was so much fun to see you in a natural setting, in the living room, instead of the studio. What an interesting puzzle cut and looks like it was quite the challenge!! Sweden ☺️
still watching the video, but one thing you can do to verify that you have the pieces connected correctly is to look at the reverse sides.. you can see if the wood grain lines up across the pieces.
I wanna add: Diamond Art Club is a seller for diamond painting that makes sure to use only licensed artwork :) most online store like Amazon & co sell stolen artwork as diamond paintings which is not cool. So it's such a cool thing! Also, yes for the puzzle :D
It is exam season for me and I find it very helpful to destress with a puzzle. This year I am doing one of gingerbread houses. What makes it different is that there are three sizes of pieces! I've never been to Sweden but my best friend was alive in the 1940s.
I'm not from Sweden myself, but I am from Denmark and currently studying abroad, so it's nice with some energy from back home. :) This video really makes me want to get my hands on a great quality wooden puzzle It looks so cozy! I'll have to keep my eyes out. Also, I already thought Diamond Art looked a lot like cross stitch with a different technique, but the patterns are basically identical! Do they sell the patterns separately? I would love to cross stitch a pretty kitty like that, maybe for a pillow or something.
Welcome to the DAC Karen, I am a member for a while now and have just finished the DAC Sneaky Cat 107cm x 52cm of a similar style as your cat one.Mine took about 2 months to do on and off. Absolutely love that wooden puzzle too, the piece shapes are lovely and exciting .❤🧡💛💚👍👍
I live in Sweden but I wasn't born in the 1940s so I can't help you with the puzzle aspect. Interesting way the pieces fit together on that puzzle! You should be be very happy about having access to the sun in LA as the sun is on vacation during the winter time for us here in Sweden and will return around the month of march! Keep up the good work!
That is a very charming puzzle! I'm not from Sweden, and wasn't alive in the 40s, but my house was! It was built in 1940. I've always loved the fashion, styles, and cars of the 40s , they were so elegant!
Yay bonus points! I wasn’t alive back in the days, but I do have three of those puzzles. One from the same company (with the animal pieces) and two others. If I recall correctly mine has a swan, a pig, a parrot and a shark.
Lovely video as always! Have you ever considered getting a puzzle table that can be angled? they have rubber backings usually so the pieces dont slide down and would help with back problems
Hi Karen! I love your videos so much. Yesterday i bought my first Ravensburg 1000pcs puzzle (inspired by you) and finished it for 12 hrs 😅. And.. got another box with 1500 pcs. I‘m hooked. 😂

“Gul” for yellow. So it’s cognate with “gold” in English. Cool!

My thoughts exactly, that little gap is just calling out for his scroll saw! Sweden rocks.
The pieces make such a cute little wooden noise when connecting!
The wooden clack of the pieces fitting together is so lovely
So satisfying 😌
Especially along with the jazz background music. 😍

My mom's family immigrated from Sweden to the United States in the late 1800s/early 1900s. So nice to do a fun little relaxing puzzle!
I love the sound of the pieces! And that little paper tree is adorable.
I really enjoyed watching you doing this puzzle. I think it's cool that it's from Sweden, and in good shape since it was from the 1940s.
That looks like a really nice puzzle. Wish you could still find stuff like that on store shelves.
The puzzle from Sweden was a wonderful Christmas video. Thanks for sharing.
What a delightful puzzle. So nice to see how much you enjoyed doing it.
8 minutes in, and i'm loving the cut of this puzzle !!!
Such a nice image, reminds me of some Gibsons’ puzzles illustrations. The wiggly cut shape gives it such a fun texture to look at as well at the end
I remember when I told you diamond paintings. I’m glad you like it. Many other companies to choose from. You can also do custom paintings from some of the companies.
I don’t know what it is about Christmas that makes puzzles so much more fun and cozy to do ☺️
I liked that puzzle. I thought it was a beautiful image. I can’t believe it’s as old as it is. It was in pretty good shape.
It was enjoyable watching you have so much fun with this puzzle. Even though I haven't been a puzzler up to this point, but my wife and I are going to try a puzzle over the holidays. Wish our relationship luck. And happy holidays!
I had no idea until today that wooden puzzle ASMR videos are my jam. Thanks for the relaxing vibes and cute vintage puzzle!
Karen, I just wanted to say, I just love all of your videos so much, thank you for all of the work you put into them 💚
I think my dad and I once did a puzzle like this. Not with the thick pieces, but lots of odd shapes that were easily whacked out of place.
You're capable of stopping diamond painting after just 20 minutes? Bravo on your restraint.
Such a cozy video! Perfect little dose of Christmas.
Just love the sound of the wooden pieces!
I am here for my Swedish bonus points 😂
Such a fun video.
Sweden ☺️
Diamond Painting is a whole community here on UA-cam as well!!
The sounds of the pieces? It's a rather satisfying " clack" as the piece is laid down.
The Hygge vibes of this puzzle were delightful! I would love to travel to Sweden someday!
Diamond painting with diamond art club is my favvvveeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!! Just finished one yesterday and starting a new one today!!
still watching the video, but one thing you can do to verify that you have the pieces connected correctly is to look at the reverse sides.. you can see if the wood grain lines up across the pieces.
I wanna add: Diamond Art Club is a seller for diamond painting that makes sure to use only licensed artwork :) most online store like Amazon & co sell stolen artwork as diamond paintings which is not cool. So it's such a cool thing! Also, yes for the puzzle :D
So much fun to see you put this together!
I love the Christmas jazz type music in this video
I thought it complemented the puzzle well!
Your Christmas sweaters are dope!
Gorgeous puzzle from Sweden. I love the printing quality.
Love this one, thank you for keeping puzzling community company!
love diamond painting!!!!
Lovely video as always! Have you ever considered getting a puzzle table that can be angled? they have rubber backings usually so the pieces dont slide down and would help with back problems
That would be a lot more difficult to film, unfortunately.
Hi Karen! I love your videos so much. Yesterday i bought my first Ravensburg 1000pcs puzzle (inspired by you) and finished it for 12 hrs 😅. And.. got another box with 1500 pcs. I‘m hooked. 😂
