Thanks for watching! Definitely looking forward to picking up this game when it's out! Check out my reaction to the new Unreal Engine 5 Early Access video on my main channel: ua-cam.com/video/nyZnRxvSJrY/v-deo.html
I watch your videos for your insight, so i'd rather you interupt to say what you think. I mean, that's why we're here. I wouldn't even mind if you watched it beforehand.
To be honest, the hair and the clipping was the thing that 'distracted' me the most - She should be called Medusa with her Hair - it seems to have a life of its own.... Still can't wait to play this!!
Thank you, great video. In terms of the hair flickering, I'm almost certain it is because of UA-cam compression. I've noticed it before with TLOU2 especially, where on YT its there, and very distracting, but in-game it looks flawless. It could also be something else though, and they just fixed it between the footage I watched, and when I played the game.
Don't worry about pausing frequently mate, we come for your analysis and I appreciate you pointing out little things I most likely missed because I had way too big of a smile on my face

While I agree that if you need to pause, feel free to pause, I'm also okay with seeing your general uninterrupted reaction and then a more detailed analysis. I would just recommend trying to be more vocal about what you're thinking at every moment even while watching the first time even if you don't pause for a long form description, so it's not just 10 minutes of watching you expression-less as the video plays in the background. It would make for better content, that's what I mean.
@ he paused a lot in the UE5 video, but I loved it every time, since he added so much to the conversion. the reaction watching community if we can call them that really need to get their heads out of their asses, and allow the people they watch to pause for constructive comments and information.
I don't know if anyone noticed this detail but you know those very very small hairs on the human face, it was visible on aloy which is honestly a crazy detail. Shows the attention to detail plus the proper bounce lighting
100% prefer seeing it all in motion first then going back to dissect it and slow down/get thorough. Pausing too frequently kills momentum and sometimes pauses in middle of a cool sequence or interrupts the flow. Watch it in full like we did the first time then dive in and share thoughts.
I think you really underrated the water in the game. I’ve literally never seen a better water and underwater in an Open World game. The tech they’ve made is unbelievable for it imo.
Yeah I thought the streams of water looked pretty decent. It conformed to the terrain nicely and split off into different paths around rocks. The underwater scenes looked great too with all the below surface detail. I do think water in games has a lot of improving to do, though. A lot of the effects for water are just basic sprites and they can look out of place in a highly detailed environment (e.g. the adhesive grenade looked flat and cartoonish). It's only a matter of time before hardware is powerful enough to do quality water simulations in real time.
It could just be that most games we've seen are just not as good with water, so comparatively this looks great. I thought the swimming splashes and underwater looked amazing but cherno is literally an engine dev so I imagine he's seen some pretty amazing water effects in tech demos and stuff like that.
@@charan3119 The water effects in this gameplay demo are near the top end of "good" water effects in games. To single them out as looking bad compared to other games would just be inaccurate, but compared to things like foliage and lighting I do agree the water stands out as being the least convincing. That's just where we're at with water rendering in games, we can make water LOOK really nice, but getting realistic interactions is difficult.
I've recently been able to play some PS4 games like Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-man, and Dreams while I wait for the PS5, and I'm blown away at the polish and pure fun those games are. Im not missing out on Playstation for another 7 years, that's for sure!
No need for the reaction sequence. Just watch and pause whenever you want. If I want to see the uninterrupted trailer I go to Playstation's page. I'm here to hear your (awesome) opinion as a game engine dev.
Really enjoyed your professional insight as ever. For me personally I enjoy it more when you comment during the video rather than saving it all up for the end. Most people watching are likely to have viewed the trailer beforehand so ongoing analysis, I think, gives immediate information to your thought process. Keep up the great work. Thank you
The waterfalls were the most impressive part of the demo, your only issues deal with aliasing of hair and fur and clipping, which all games struggle with
I don't understand how they managed to do this in a timeframe of less than 4 years . It's insane what Sony and Guerrilla Games did . Can't wait for this to come out . Looks unreal. I'm just mind boggled at how gorgeous this looks. Sony just have nearly the best devs I've ever seen man
@@sobrev1viente exactly. Mark Cerny wasn't joking about this stuff that's for sure . No gimmicks going on here lol. He's just a damn genius man. PlayStation legend since the beginning of PS1 .
@Kratos GodofWar If you put the two side by side I don't think you'll find they're re-using much - the level of detail, especially geometrically, at least on PS5 is so far on from the first game I don't think they could use much in terms of original assets. One thing is for sure, the PS4 version is going to have to cull quite a bit to get it running.
I would also like to point out the engine has had a lot of additional co-development between Guerilla and Kojima Productions. Death Stranding helped to advance the engines in a lot of ways as well so there are probably quite a few of those benefits being out to God use here.
I think it's great that you watch the full thing through. It's your first viewing after all not ours. And then coming to the in-depth analysis we all find useful at the end. Really good!
I have no education in video game development, but for some reason, I'm always excited to see what you are going to say about a new game! Love your channel and your honesty, so refreshing.
@@ctflex4699 well there are things you can do when your just working to one platform that you can’t when your having to still keep it on another inferior platform. Big difference between having the ssd or mechanical drive with level design
THANK YOU SO MUCH for being honest. People seem to be ignoring all of the flaws here. The lighting and textures are beautiful, but physics and simulations here are not perfect.
It was the same with Ratchet and Klank first gameplay shown and before launch you can see it's been improved, I bet a lot of these things will be ironed out.
@@tantalus5370 who knows really. I'm heavily anticipating this game and pretty much every Sony exclusive. But what I'm curious about is what are the cut backs and overall presentation of the ps4 and PRO versions of the game? Is it one of resolution down to 720p 30 frames, 900p/30, the same exact game but with horizon zero Dawn graphics(two seperate versions of the game), did they work around last gen limitations or add features only on PS5 like flying, etc etc.
@@tantalus5370 That is probably the case. Jaguar CPUs were pretty weak even when the PS4 launched. Heck, the PS3 CPU and the PS4 CPU are basically equal in performance - it's just that the PS3's has a bit of a RAM problem and also was harder to use.
Since you asked for feedback, I'll be honest : you're doing yourself a disservice by not pausing and analysing it on the spot (you said it yourself at the end: not taking notes, forgetting some things etc). Going through the video a second time and relying on memory, looking for a specific frame and not finding it, was not as good and detailed as it could be (and felt too rushed by you trying to not keep the video too long as a result of the second video play). On a more biased opinion, don't worry about disrupting video on the first playthrough; if I wanted the video playing uninterrupted I'd go watch the original! Thank you for your analysis and keep them coming, we will be here to watch
I miss you stopping and reacting while watching. Seemed you got to express a lot more of your points that way. But great video anyway as always. Cheers.
The foliage is world class. I have never seen this density in an open world game. What is even more incredible is that this is running cross gen. The first game had very little foliage interaction on ps4 and it will be the same with this one, but for PS5 they could enable it. The problem with things like this is that it is not just a settings thing, it is a feature to be made specifically for PS5, which would explain why the haven’t made it (yet).
He made a sweeping statement that everything about the graphics in itself, is really great, but yah, all clams and stuff, made it look so incredible. Also there was so much he wanted to comment on, so he probably forgot half of it, and could go on forever :p
I'm loving this new format. It's great to watch you react the same as a regular ol' gamer, and then go back and use your developer expertise to break things down. Keep up the great work.
It's nice that you have the "immersive" reaction and then a deep dive. Allows your viewers to experience it without going to another video first then see your reaction frame by frame which we are all here for.
Great analysis as pr usual. The things you notice is mind boggeling to me. But im surpriced you didnt mention the hair of Aloy in the water scenery. Probably the best iv seen in any game.
I think it looks amazing and the fact that this is still a relatively early build (no release window is given yet) is exciting. Ghost of Tsushima looked really good on the initial reveal and looked even better by the time they cleaned it up. Makes me think of your video the first time they showed ratchet and clank compared to the state of play they did a few months later.
Cherno and Aloy looking like brother and sister on the thumbnail 😊

The demo proper doesn't show much aside from the hurricane at the end, but I'd recommend looking at the 5 hour-long "countdown" they had for the stream, and picking some random moments there to see the dynamic volumetric cloud system that is greatly enhanced for this sequel. The countdown shows some amazing low-altitude clouds flowing around mountains that is just something to behold.
The graphics quality is insane, when the teaser was first released I was like "Yeah right.. the actual gameplay isn't going to be this way" but I was wrong.
I feel like the water is supposed to look like that, since its going fast and looks foamy. I think especially with the clear beach water, it looks so clean and almost perfect.
I agree that the flowing water did look a little low quality, but I think the underwater segment as well as the swimming is some of the best water physics I have seen.
Now that the hype meters up it will be nice to get a 60 fps ps5 patch for Zero Dawn. Most AAA ps4 exclusives already got the patch, Last of Us 2 got it last week. Hopefully FW will also offer 60 fps mode
this game is releasing on ps4 too, that's why i believe they couldn't max out everything regarding this particular game, but it still looks amazing and improved from the first installment which BTW i recommend you checking it out, it's personally my most favorite ps4 game so far .
The Dof stuff and lighting on the character is intentional I think. I think they are giving Alloy hero lighting to juxtopose her with the scenery and make her stand out. I like it, but it isn't for everyone.
What I did like the most in the gameplay video: almost all folliage have a very light movement. This is more realistic and makes a HUGE difference in this kind of enviroenment. Anything near big water sources like large rivers, lakes or ocean, (almost) always have wind, different than inner into the continent.
I prefer you stopping the video every 4 seconds to say something rather than watching the entire thing and then talk about it. Anyway, your videos are so entertaining and informative. Keep it up!
I wonder how many of the “problems” are due to this being built to also play on a ps4. All the ps5 can do is add polish a game that is also meant to be played on 8 year old hardware.
It’s entirely possible that the development team are able to do what they want to do on PS4 after coming to grips with the true strengths of the console. RE8 was reportedly only going to be a next gen exclusive but after the team spent time with the old consoles they managed to get it to work with very little sacrifices. The newer console obviously has better hardware but it’s not as cut and dry as “older is worse!”
@@chazzergamer oh no doubt. Sony first party can put stuff on vanilla ps4 that rivals stuff on ps5 currently. I’m saying that some of the blemishes are probably due to limitations of also working on old tech and not because the developers are not good/ps5 is weak.
You thoughts about some " flickering " graphics bout this game is same as my thoughts and I agree 100% with you....but this game just in development and not finish yet...hope the team notice bout this...love your video
I'm fully on board with you watching the whole thing first and concentrating on what you see and then dissecting the footage on artifacts, clipping etc but during that part you start rushing and skipping past parts which is kinda the part that we're here for. Not sure if it was a busy day for you and time was tight, but I was kinda hoping for a nice deep dive at the end.
Do Returnal dude - its great. I've got 90 hours in and still playing so its worth imo. Although I believe that choosing to do a PS4 version has restricted some of the design choices they could have done on PS5, what they have done is fantastic and definitely pushing the bar. If the gameplay and story feel as good as the first one, this Horizon could be one of my fave games of all time..
Yes. Returnal, few weeks ago they drop Yang Bings Lost Soul Aside, and then there's upcoming FF7 DLC Intergrade this June 10th & Ratchet on June 11th. Now Sony is dropping this gameplay, & GoW Ragnarok sooner this year. Sony is really not holding back this time xD
I beat Returnal and honestly this game looked like it started as a PS4 title. For all the capabilities of the PS5 to fast load you, there were too many long corridors which told me the layout was designed around the loading for PS4. Think about when you transition from the starting dome to dome 5 or 6. Where you rappel up to the transition area. I was like WTF, transitional loading hallways? The flying drones nearly killed it for me in this game. I beat it due to my completionist nature but not for any fun elements. Also for all the difficult combat the last boss was a pushover.
I think I noticed quite a few of things you've pointed out when I watched it last night and that's all thanks to watching your videos. Hopefully on release they've managed to fix a lot of those issues.
That is the most amazing part--4k YT vids don't do the games justice because of compression and no HDR. People will be just as blown away or more when they have the real thing running at home. On a side note, I think God of War: Ragnarok (or whatever it ends up being called) is going to look even better, possibly being the best looking real-time graphics we've ever seen, and Xbots will claim they only care about fps. lol
The artifacts having to do with sun shafts, are just due to a very low volumetric lightning resolution, usually the volumetric light resolution on consoles especially is set to very even lower than 1/8th the resolution of the game since there many edge cases where that can cause the artifacts we saw, they do this because outside those edge cases the volumetric lighting is going to look fine despite the low resolution.
I’ve said it before but I much prefer this style where you simply watch the content first and THEN dissect it because it’s meant to be taken in as a whole initially and when you would immediately jump to breaking it apart I personally felt like you were depriving yourself of the true first experience.
I find very interesting the way you highlight some technical aspects. For ex: I did not understand why I feel the character walks on grass was a bit off until you point out the issue with the foliage. Thanks, for doing it, I learn a lot from those reviews.
Yeah the hair thing you’re mentioning, it’s something they’ve had a problem with even in the first game. I hope they see your video, and take some of these points home. Anyways, great video man!
Every developer has problems with hair, every game I have seen so far hair will do stuff like clip through the character body, clothing, armor or nearby objects. It's like self clipping of characters body parts because not every visual surface is given solid parameters denoting what is and isn't a surface. Have you seen a developer who has figured out how to keep hair from clipping, I know I haven't and it's one the first things I notice in games that use hair, foliage and interaction between polygonal bodies. This is an industry issue and no one seemingly has come up with a solution to prevent that clipping issue, perhaps it's harder than we thought to actually combat in code that won't break everything else around it when implemented.
@@evilformerlys4704 I get what you’re saying. I bet every part of game development can be difficult. But also, just because every developer has a problem with it, doesn’t mean it can’t be improved on. I’m sure it’s something they’re doing, but it’s good to shine light on these things, cause if not, it could be seen as not a problem or big deal. Don’t get me wrong though, I think this game looks amazing and I’m sure it’ll be amazing.
I hear you but like @S said every dev has some sort of problem with hair and to some degree water. I kinda come to accept it as part of the personality and uniqueness of the character. It gives it specific character like Alloy the girl with bouncing hair. I will say the hair bouncing is really improved hair over the last.
@@DualPurpose well, I’m not necessarily saying it’s bad. There are definitely improvements here, but it should be valid to critique something regardless of how hard or difficult something is. You don’t say “well, every developer has a hard time with hair… etc”. I’m only critiquing it to highlight it. Not that I’m saying it’s bad, or it should be easy to do. I don’t necessarily see anything wrong with that. I actually think this game is really beautiful and that there are many improvements over the first game, which I’m a fan of. Either way, picking this up day one and I’m excited to see the retail version of this game! So far, it seems like they’re gonna knock it out of the park!
If theres anything Sony doesnt get enough talk about, its their audio for the PS5. Just beautiful and it makes such a difference in how connected you are to the games. Graphics are incredib;le, I didnt notice some of the issues you pointed out before, however, even with the things you showed, this is just an incredib;le experience. Thanks for reviewing this. Day 1 for me.
Oh I completely agree with that. I wasn’t blown away by the visuals but the score here is on another level. It’s the kind of pulse pounding, Eastern percussion/European techno hybrid reminiscent of John Powell’s Jason Bourne music. Top tier Hollywood quality stuff.
I think it's perfectly fine if you pause the gameplay and commentate over it. As you said, we should just watch the original footage before coming here to see your reaction. But I think if you prefer to watch the whole thing then it's totally fine. Basically: Do it for you, not for us haha
I love to see what I have missed and what could be improved. Definitely noticed the right leg crippled of alloy from first scene and foliage not reacting to alloy. Missing raytracing and sand undeformation while melee fight. Other than that I didn't see artifacts and depth of field faults. Having seen once and give out so detailed reivew make me trust your eye as a developer. Having said that, the visuals in the game ruled out every faults I have seen and I can give those a pass if they remain on the original game. They have time and I hope they can fix some of them. Excited for a day 1 purchase.
The lighting was off as well, it constantly looks like she's being lit (too much) from 2-3 different light sources. Her hair often looked too shiny on the top because of this lighting and her hair physics looked off (her hair sometimes looked like a nest of vipers). Then on top of that it also often clipped into her and into her clothes. Her hair really needs a re-work. Then there's the ankle deep shallow water, that often lacked ripples and splashing. The few that where there (often missing entirely), often looked poor quality and very basic. Those few that where made, where typically too small in size and typical round in shape, just like a rock thrown into pond. However, physically they just wouldn't be like that. The ones they used are the typical circular ripples, that are pasted on top of each other. Honestly they all belong back in the PS3 era., where they came from. Plus there was far too little splashes coming off objects, especially larger ones like the first dino thrashing and jumping about.. Then there's the sand deformation, with both Aloy's and NPC's feet clipping straight through any. Which is a pity, because ground deformation looks great, when done right (RDR2, SnowRunner, TLOU ect..) Then there was the typical old-school evaporating rubble and boulders from demolished walls, as soon as it hits the ground. Worse is the fact, that the odd few of Aloy's footsteps seem to causes a small lived sand deformation, yet somehow a massive pile of collapsing rumble and boulders, causes none at all. Instead we get a bunch of dust and magically dissolving and disappearing boulders.. Then, just like he said, there's the depth of field and load distances. Things in the distance often look far too blurred, washed out and out of focus and even objects that are just 20-25 yards ahead of Aloy, look really blurry. Take any of the beach scenes and pause it and you'll see exactly what we mean (TBH, HZD was equally bad for it as well). They've obviously added the typical 'misty haze' with all the blurriness, along with drastically cutting down detail draw distances, to try and save on performance However, it seems pretty low here and the game just looks too blurry because of all of it.
It could be checkerboard rendering, as models, and action that's happening it's full packed for a 10 Tflops machine. Still looks very close to CGI pre-rendered stuff. In the Horizon Zero Dawn most of the stuff You mentioned, didn't have that much interaction and tessellation. This is truly a general leap Cherno...
Hey Cherno, great video as always! About the water and grass: In the first game it was the same way. I don't know why, probably a design choice, but in the first game both were completely STATIC. No reaction to movement at all. This time around, water reacts *a little* more when she walks on it (when swimming it looks great) but it's still iffy. Same with the foliage
Regarding the grass interaction. Ghost of Tsushima also showed nearly none grass interaction in the gameplay trailer, yet in the full game it is present. My guess is we will see something similar here again. They didn't announced a release date yet, so i guess they will do quite some polishing still.
It looks so good that the few issues I saw really stand out because it takes away from how amazing it looks. Since it's just a slice I assume these things will get polished before release.
Remember this is releasing on ps4 too so to be honest it looks bloody good. It would look better if it was made for Ps5 only but there you go. Can imagine that some of the gameplay will crawl along at 20fps ish on base ps4.
In my bedroom playing the first one on the Ps4 Pro and playing it again 2 months ago on my PS5 on 65'4k TV. This one right here looks godly. I enjoyed the sound track when they showed "Aaron captured. Yeah I much prefer to you doing the video this way. Great video, nice to hear your analysis. 👏🏼
I bet a lot of the graphic and physics / collision issues you noted come down to an engine that needs to scale down to the base PS4. Ratchet & Clank is PS5 exclusive, so it doesn’t have to make the same compromises. (It could also just be that this is still a work in progress.) I do wonder how this is going to look on PS4/Pro, but overall, I think it looks amazing. Clearly the PS5 can handle cinematic quality assets in gameplay, which is amazing. There could also just be some choices made, like not worrying about her hair clipping through the bow, because it’s less likely to be noticed when you plan and it being one of those order of magnitude issues to fix. This was my favorite new IP of the PS4 generation, so I’m thrilled to see it coming back. I do wish it were PS5 exclusive, but my understanding is that it was already in the works for PS4, so it’s kind of amazing that we’ll get it this year (supposedly). Was hoping for a date or even a 60fps patch for Zero Dawn, but I’m still excited to see what’s next!
This game looks great but there is a little detail: Aloy seems to be playing behind a geen screen. The light on her face and hair doesn't appear to be integreated in the scene around her
The way u are doing it is exactly how u want to do your vids! U experience the reveals 1st, then, after experiencing it fully u can then go back and pick it apart. I love listening to people who know what they are talking about. I honestly do not see hlf the things he notices and im so glad I don't! This game looks absolutely gorgeous to me, and even with the things he has noticed I still think it is by far the best looking game I have ever seen. Great vid!! Can't wait to pick this game up.
LMAO. We've come a long ways boys. When you're given a breath taking lush forest action sequence and we're looking at the pixels along the edge of skin that could be deemed as "off" you know we made it. Funny how we ignore the spectacle and look at the minute things.
I like the format you use for watching then analyzing. You did a great job pointing out the strengths and weaknesses of the graphics. They seriously need to implement the physics in the movement through grass and bushes as I spent a lot of time doing this during the first game. Also in a cut scene near the end her back-mounted weapons disappear or changes. They need to fix this so that both her bow and spear remains on her and not poof into thin air. I also like how the machines and weapons lighting reflects on the ground and surfaces. I am hoping these are not the result of developing for last gen hardware and the changes will be in the final game.
There are definitely issues prevalent at this stage of development. I hope they fix it. Issues I noticed: - Clipping of Clothes/Hair - Foliage not correctly reacting to Aloy - Grass very close to the Camera popping out suddenly - Animation for picking up the weapon. - Aloy and her stance/pose based on the surface.
Please drop a poll asking for which format is better further on.... I Have no clue why anyone asked for this new format. Its hard to understand to get into the flow with dispersed ideas thrown simultaneously in this new format.
My first impression: did you get a haircut? 🙃 Love hearing your take on things like this - it really helps me to learn how to judge games from a more informed perspective, and to appreciate the effort it takes to create these amazing games 🙂 Also I LOVE how you can see the lightning flash reflected in her eyes 🤗 (33:10)
I think the fact you first watching the trailer and re-watching to analyse is a good strategy, I feel like you don't necessarily need to upload your first reaction, but just the fact you watched before going for frame-to-frame analysis will already provide you with a better POV to analyse.
Love, love, love that you didn't pause. Everyone has different opinions of course but I greatly prefer watching it all in motion and taking it in then going back to dissect it and break it down. Pausing so frequently the first time can lead to pausing on certain moments or killing the momentum/flow that you'd get from seeing it in motion. The way this video was done is how I personally prefer it for what it's worth (although I know others will disagree). Regardless thank you for the education and entertainment!
Sitting through the entire trailer first is the way to go, but would be nice to get some more initial reaction commentary as you watch. You had some, but felt like you were holding some back. Then have the technical dissection at the end. Great video again though! As for Horizon, wow!! The lit volumetrics (although still a little low resolution) are super impressive!
This game looks so good alot of people seem to be forgetting it is an open world game. You know you are pushing all new boundaries when that happens. People comparing the game to the most linear, static games in existence like Gears or TLOU or Rise of the Tomb Raider running on a new gen GPU with all sorts of layered extras pushing it further. Simply put, the game looks incredible and looks like it is a big step up from the first title with the many new traversal options. Looks insanely fun. CANNOT WAIT TO PLAY
I imagine some of the tech shortfalls, like clipping and grass deformation when walking over it, probably is due to this being one of the cross-gen titles, where Ratchet is a PS5 exclusive.
Yessss I was waiing for this!!!!! Loved your reaction Cherno, even if you have something bad to say, is for some reason and you explain it, don'tworry dude, we are here to hear you talk so comment as much as you want!!!

@@charan3119 The water effects in this gameplay demo are near the top end of "good" water effects in games. To single them out as looking bad compared to other games would just be inaccurate, but compared to things like foliage and lighting I do agree the water stands out as being the least convincing. That's just where we're at with water rendering in games, we can make water LOOK really nice, but getting realistic interactions is difficult.

same goes for God of war Ragnarok
I've recently been able to play some PS4 games like Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-man, and Dreams while I wait for the PS5, and I'm blown away at the polish and pure fun those games are. Im not missing out on Playstation for another 7 years, that's for sure!
No need for the reaction sequence. Just watch and pause whenever you want. If I want to see the uninterrupted trailer I go to Playstation's page. I'm here to hear your (awesome) opinion as a game engine dev.
Exactly
Exactly. I skipped right to the My Thoughts part, the Reaction was just watching the trailer with a webcam on the screen lol.
I really like your analysis and attention to details. Feel free to pause and point good and bad stuffs out, we're here for it.
SHHHHHHHHHH don't say the p word
yeah. The P word is racist. You know better!
Thank you
I loved the underwater hair especially!
The waterfalls were the most impressive part of the demo, your only issues deal with aliasing of hair and fur and clipping, which all games struggle with
Yes and these small details separate your game from the rest.
The messy lighting in the climbing scene is already fixed in the preoder announcement
I think this game has the best water I’ve ever seen. It looks way too realistic imo.
Remember the ocean water from Killzone 3 on the PS3? 👌
I think water effects in Far Cry games look really good too...
@@zinyak4443 Yes, definitely.
@@zinyak4443 Many games have great underwater. But this is on another lever, pretty clearly. It’s like Atlantis in live-action.
@@TheMrGiannisgr Yeah sure.
I don't understand how they managed to do this in a timeframe of less than 4 years . It's insane what Sony and Guerrilla Games did . Can't wait for this to come out . Looks unreal. I'm just mind boggled at how gorgeous this looks. Sony just have nearly the best devs I've ever seen man
When the console was presented they said they one of the goals was to reduce production time, seems like they fulfilled the promise
I was just thinking the same
I would also like to point out the engine has had a lot of additional co-development between Guerilla and Kojima Productions.
Wow and this game is cross gen. Still one of the best things I have ever seen.
cross gen doesnt mean much...they just scale it
@@ctflex4699 well there are things you can do when your just working to one platform that you can’t when your having to still keep it on another inferior platform. Big difference between having the ssd or mechanical drive with level design
@Kratos GodofWar if people think horizon is sick. Wait until they see god of war. It’s gonna make some utubers cry.
You mean best thing you’ve ever seen
@Kratos GodofWar I thinks it’s gonna be ps5 exclusive dude. It’s gonna blow the internet up
THANK YOU SO MUCH for being honest. People seem to be ignoring all of the flaws here. The lighting and textures are beautiful, but physics and simulations here are not perfect.
Yes and these must get fixed in my opinion. You can't have a game that is brilliant in some areas and deficient in others and not get called out.
It was the same with Ratchet and Klank first gameplay shown and before launch you can see it's been improved, I bet a lot of these things will be ironed out.
The limitations with grass dynamics, etc, could be because this is an intergeneration title, PS4 and PS5?
Thats what i would imagine, its probobly too many physics calculations for the jaguar cores
@@DualPurpose hopefully theyll include ps5 upgrades for ps4 purchasers... still fuckin impossible to get a ps5
I'm surprised you skipped over the under water section (maybe you missed it?), I thought that looked amazing.
yep, I wanted his take on the underwater section, he just skipped...?
He made a sweeping statement that everything about the graphics in itself, is really great, but yah, all clams and stuff, made it look so incredible.
Also there was so much he wanted to comment on, so he probably forgot half of it, and could go on forever :p
I'm loving this new format. It's great to watch you react the same as a regular ol' gamer, and then go back and use your developer expertise to break things down. Keep up the great work.
It's nice that you have the "immersive" reaction and then a deep dive. Allows your viewers to experience it without going to another video first then see your reaction frame by frame which we are all here for.
I've watched a bunch of reactions to this reveal and i must say you're among my favorites!
there are no cutscenes in this video... they're all in-game and realtime not pre-rendered
Decima Engine got more polished after collab with Kojima Production.
It has been confirmed that it will come out this year though, so probably late 2021
YESSS! Been waiting for this since morning(the gameplay trailer premiered at 5am in my country).
Its a crossgen game of course it will have 60fps option on ps5
this game is releasing on ps4 too, that's why i believe they couldn't max out everything regarding this particular game, but it still looks amazing and improved from the first installment which BTW i recommend you checking it out, it's personally my most favorite ps4 game so far .
Bruh, I actually find your reactions way more insightful than Digital Foundry.
Heck of a job, mate.
The Dof stuff and lighting on the character is intentional I think. I think they are giving Alloy hero lighting to juxtopose her with the scenery and make her stand out. I like it, but it isn't for everyone.
It may be, but sometimes it feels a little bit like Aloy is in front of a screen (3:45). That being said, amazing looking game.
What I did like the most in the gameplay video: almost all folliage have a very light movement. This is more realistic and makes a HUGE difference in this kind of enviroenment. Anything near big water sources like large rivers, lakes or ocean, (almost) always have wind, different than inner into the continent.
A lot of games have had foliage that's blowing away gently in the wind, for several years now. It's nothing new.
Wow this coming to ps4 too? No wonder :(
Hmm think they called CPR for the know how.
@@chazzergamer not “older is worse” but it does have limitations. Never said anything in my post suggesting it’s bad
You thoughts about some " flickering " graphics bout this game is same as my thoughts and I agree 100% with you....but this game just in development and not finish yet...hope the team notice bout this...love your video
Thanks mate, appreciate the honest appraisal
When you compare this being held back by ps4 and halo infinite being held back by the xbox one its pretty drastic
I think I noticed quite a few of things you've pointed out when I watched it last night and that's all thanks to watching your videos. Hopefully on release they've managed to fix a lot of those issues.
You should watch it again once it's actually finished as PlayStation 5 games in my opinion, look so much better in the flesh.
Specially Horizon, remember the first gameplay trailer for zero Dawn didn’t look as nice as the actual game
“Ahhh, yes graphiks” me watching it on 360p 😭
I’ve said it before but I much prefer this style where you simply watch the content first and THEN dissect it because it’s meant to be taken in as a whole initially and when you would immediately jump to breaking it apart I personally felt like you were depriving yourself of the true first experience.
Yea I agree. Videos are much better like this.
I concur
nope
Talks about sound, then the SFX sign off sound 34:28... Respect.... , Through my apogees and studio monitors, Damn awesome!
I am just glad they fixed the faces. In the first game, the lower face moved, a LOT, the upper face, not so much.
The interruptions for the opinions and explanations is what I am here for.
Which is a pity, because ground deformation looks great, when done right (RDR2, SnowRunner, TLOU ect..)
Then there was the typical old-school evaporating rubble and boulders from demolished walls, as soon as it hits the ground.
In the thumbnail he has the "Get out of my house, I don't even know who you are." face.
The fact some of you die hard fanboys are arguing with an actual DEV is hilarious. He is just pointing out things. The game looks EXTREMELY GOOD.
I believe this was a game developed under the PS4 (transitioning to PS5). So it’s pre-next-gen.
Cross gen
I feel its gonna be 900 or 720p on ps4
Man that base PS4 gonna sound like an Airport runway 😂
@@ThePokestopPapi actually the base ps4 is quite silent , the pro is the one that leaves earth's atmosphere if left unshackled lol

To be fair it's not finished, I'm sure they'll enhance a lot of things before launch.
The light on her face and hair doesn't appear to be integreated in the scene around her
Dont forget this is coming to ps4 too both built using the engine from 4 years ago and not built ground up for ps5 only
The way u are doing it is exactly how u want to do your vids!
Horizan looks absolutely stunning
In your opinion do you think some graphical choices were made specifically because it also needs to run on PS4?
Most likely IMO.
LMAO. We've come a long ways boys. When you're given a breath taking lush forest action sequence and we're looking at the pixels along the edge of skin that could be deemed as "off" you know we made it. Funny how we ignore the spectacle and look at the minute things.
7:22 THank you LOL I was like, DuuudE ! you literally read my mind
I'm all FOR the separation of watching and analysis.
I too noticed the foliage doesn’t respond to her. I just chalked it up to this game being developed for PS4.
I think some of the issues you pointed out could be a result of the compressed 1080p video and will be way less noticeable when we'll play on a 4k tv.
Issues I noticed:
- Clipping of Clothes/Hair
- Foliage not correctly reacting to Aloy
- Grass very close to the Camera popping out suddenly
- Animation for picking up the weapon.
- Aloy and her stance/pose based on the surface.
The game looks freaking incredible 😀😮👍
Please drop a poll asking for which format is better further on....
I Have no clue why anyone asked for this new format. Its hard to understand to get into the flow with dispersed ideas thrown simultaneously in this new format.
My first impression: did you get a haircut? 🙃 Love hearing your take on things like this - it really helps me to learn how to judge games from a more informed perspective, and to appreciate the effort it takes to create these amazing games 🙂
Also I LOVE how you can see the lightning flash reflected in her eyes 🤗 (33:10)
It looks amazing, just noticed that she sounds wired underwater, making above water effort sounds
I love your critique analysis. Gives a lot of insight!
Ratchet and clank rift apart and morales on the ps5 is a bit more refined, but it looks good.
This is coming to the PS4 as well, the minimal interaction with foliage may be one of the compromises of being crossgen.
I imagine some of the tech shortfalls, like clipping and grass deformation when walking over it, probably is due to this being one of the cross-gen titles, where Ratchet is a PS5 exclusive.
I believe Matthijs said that the map spans from Utah to the Pacific. Anyone else hoping for a nice apocalyptic Vegas that we haven't seen yet?
Its so eyecandy i did not realize all those things cherno was mentioning lol... good job sir! Your attention to detail is top notch!
Yessss I was waiing for this!!!!! Loved your reaction Cherno, even if you have something bad to say, is for some reason and you explain it, don'tworry dude, we are here to hear you talk so comment as much as you want!!!
Yeah I really do like this style better. This way we get both styles. We get to watch the whole video through and see your reactions and then we get the highly technical talk throughs after.
Always love hearing your input Cherno!!!! Keep up the great work ❤️
For me I prefer this format where you watch it first , but it’s totally up to you dude, thanks for the content 👍
@More Cherno
You alive dude?🤔
Miss you analysing things.
New Horizon II Forbiden West Story Trailer looks CRAZY.
I think the foliage interaction problem will be solve in the final release, it really is an easy task for them.
This game looks incredible!
