Transformation on the glazed headlights is amazing.and ya right, Take your time when working on something like this, the end result is worth it. Good video man
You did the best you can do with the lights good job . I switch my cars to hid head light system it make it clear at night . But on my bmw they have it where you can change the clear lens by itself that’s what I did
Looks awesome man!! I use Super Clean full strength to remove the yellowing.. It literally runs off.. scrub it a bit with a stiff brush ( your gonna be sanding them anyway) then sand.. polish..and protect.. I kinad think its a good thing you forgot to detox that one light.. (Im assuming you did detox the other light) now with updates we can see the importance of using a panel wipe before coating.. Turn your mistakes into learning experiences🤓👍🏼
😎 fab looks awesome Brian headlights is our worse enemy's of sun light and weather damaged ethos will help thanks for the video have a awesome weekend fab
I do this every time I need to change a bulb. Since pulling the housing is quick and easy (atleast on my Audi's and Chevy), I sand them in the deep sink under running water then hit them with the polisher. I start with 1,500 normally but in bad cases I start with 800. After the polish, two coats of SiO2 (Ethos graphene for me also) and resinstall. Sometimes majorly stone pitted headlights may need a hit with 400, but cautiously. Side note, never use the super white bulbs like Sylvania Ultra or ZXE unless you want to change them every 8 months.
hey fab, the headlights look great. the headlights are gonna yellow eventually but i know how to stop it. the headlight needs a sacrificial layer on top of it. clear paint protection film (precut or not) works fantastic. am going 5+ years on my headlights with no yellowing and they still look fresh
I do headlight restoration pretty much the same way except I use 3M TRIZACT sanding discs. Keep us informed how long the Ethos Graphene coating lasts on the headlight before any yellowing occurs. A good test for any coating is how long it protects on smooth exterior plastic. Textured trim is much easier to protect.
yes! a yellowy soupy mess indeed. i did my benz lights and rear hatch plastic "glass" last year... one light i used 1000, 1500, 2000 and it came out fine but compared to the other side's 600, 800, 1500, 3000 i gotta redo it this year. I also applied the stuff in the boxes from the auto parts stores and walmart (the kit) to my tacoma's lights and the clearcoat was a ripoff compared to the clearcoat can from Home Depot which I applied to the bumpers after they started pealing. it was hard getting product in 2020 to do a complete job.
FAB you're the man! Lol! Thanks for this video. I've been waiting for someone to do a video using the Ethos Graphene coating on retored headlights. I've been doing headlight restorations for while now and have been using Opti-lens Coating and Mckees37 Headlight coating. Even with proper maintenance I'm only seeing about a year at best before the yellowing starts to creep back in. Was going to try a good durable ceramic coating (more than likely Cquartz UK 3.0) until Ethos came out with this. I plan on buying the Ethos anyway so I figured I'll test it on my car's headlights. I was going to apply 2 coats however (the second one 1-4 hours after the first. Oh and I'll remember to detox it before I apply it as well. (Oops... 😆) If you can, keep us updated on the longevity. Thanks again brother!
Your method and results speak for themselves so I am not going to offer any advice there. I don't know if you have tried installing any PPF but if you haven't headlights are a relatively easy place to start as it's a relatively small area. 👍✌️🇺🇸
Top Video!! How long last de poslish as protection? Did you use a polish with UV protection? The links you put under the video don't work on my PC.(Live in the Netherlands)
Hey Brian, just started following you. Long time follower of papasmurf. This is something I've been trying to get started for a side hustle. What do you charge when doing this for a customer?
I used spray after sanding and it looks like crap! I didn’t realize how it would react Ajax now it’s visible and has run marks can I just sand that off and start over?
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing I don’t think I have the right spray! Is there a chemical I can wipe on? I thought I had it all sorted out, sprayed stuff on there and the lens looked clear but the spray ran and gooped up and it looks awful! Now I have to sand again! Prob screwing up headlights I may have to buy new ones!
Do you always start with the same grit used in this video or do you go lower in grit in more yellowed light? I find these higher grit sanding starts interesting.
Quick question. I have old shoulders, lol but would using a 3" DA with a sanding disc make it easier or is that a bad idea. I've seen some use the DA to sand, scrub ect...your thoughts.
Oh, good job restoring the headlights.
Brian getting a lot of points with Mrs. FAB. One of the most important factors on a relationship. 😉👌
Xoxo from Puerto Rico 👍🇵🇷
Humberto Roche Garcia I try and keep the points in the positive column. 😂
The headlights look much better👍 Mrs. FAB will definitely notice the difference driving at night now💡 She'll be able to see what she hits now😆😄🤪😜😉
IntervalePC Yes they look way better. Bright headlights won’t help her though. 😂

Just did my headlights with 1000 grit , 1500 grit, then Oberk compound on a cutting disc. Coated them with Csl and Exo v4. Cool video man
Cjburn 27 Thanks brother! It makes a huge difference in the look of the vehicle.
Made a HUGE difference! now Mrs FAB can see you clearly when she blows by
Camaro Time 😂 it’s like a lighting streak when she drives by. 😂
I was looking a vid for headlights restoration and found this ANND he has the same truck I have…perfect video 💯
Thank you! Hoped it help
Good job. I used a 3M restoration kit from amazon. Worked great and was lot easier for less than 20 bucks.
Simon99 Thanks! I have used the same 3M kit at work and it does work well. This paper is really cheap though.
Super video. great pace and informative. Really pleased with results....A Very BIG thank you...and very well done...
Thank you!
Great video.. those look SO much better! Changes the car..👍 now She can see! Nice work brother.
PapaSmurf918 Thanks brother! Makes it look so much better.
Thanks. I will get started on my lenses right away.
I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Michael Angelos You are welcome! It makes a big difference in functionality and looks of the car.
Very educational video and now this is something I can do for my folks Mercedes SLK headlights as oxidation is starting to form on the plastic.
You did the best you can do with the lights good job . I switch my cars to hid head light system it make it clear at night . But on my bmw they have it where you can change the clear lens by itself that’s what I did
Gene1984 G Thanks! Changing the lens would be the way to go for sure.
Good stuff Brian those headlights came out looking great. Awesome how to video on a problem that is very apparent on most people’s vehicles.
Miller Detailing Thank you! A lot of cars on the road headlights look like this.
Yes, do very similar method to yours. Now I do almost all with the G8 and Mirka Abralon 3-in disc with about 4-grits then polish the same.
thomkirby Using the G8 would make it easier for sure.
Looks awesome man!!

It does make a difference!

Found it! Nice man, I shouldn’t have assumed you had them yellow for a long time. Great vid👍

@@MikesAutoDetailing Hi @Mike's Auto Detailing 🌞🏖

@@FABAutomotiveDetailing hope you are enjoying your vacation. We missed you today at PapaSmurf918 livestream 😉
Humberto Roche Garcia Man I wish I was on vacation but I was in the middle of a detail.
Those look really nice. I much should I expect to pay for a service like this?
Usually around $50-$75 per light
Good video bro
They look awesome. What kind of durability did you get?
Thanks! We sold it shortly after this so I can’t answer that. Sorry
Top Video!! How long last de poslish as protection? Did you use a polish with UV protection? The links you put under the video don't work on my PC.(Live in the Netherlands)
Tom Smink Thanks! I used a Graphene Ceramic Coating that has UV protection. The links should still work no matter where you are.
What type of soap do u use?
Wat grit to start and wat to end with
I'm working on my car right now. I'm using a 7000 grade paper and nor sure when you stop. Dries quute milky but better than it wad.
You go until it’s all even then polish it out
What would happen if you didn’t wet the sandpaper? Damage or just take longer?
It would probably gouge the lens more. The water has a little bit of soap in it to add lubricity to the surface.
Brian it will be interesting to see how long the coating will last on headlights.
Functional Doc Yes it will be interesting.
Hey Brian, just started following you. Long time follower of papasmurf. This is something I've been trying to get started for a side hustle. What do you charge when doing this for a customer?
Thanks for checking the channel out. It all depends on how bad the headlights are but typically I charge around $75-$100 for the pair.
Maybe I went overkill but I started @ 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000, 4000 😬 finished off with PlastiX and hit er with the clear coat.
Can you use seal and shine to seal it or the new GG green wax as alternative
Clyde Espinosa Yes you can use anything that has a UV protectant but the heat from the bulbs will wear the protection out faster.
Nice work Fab! Learned something new today. What was the solution you used to wet sand with? I didn’t quite catch it. I heard car wash.
Jason Davis Thanks and glad I could help. I use a spray bottle with 2-3 drops of Griots Super Concentrated Carwash.
FAB Automotive Detailing awesome thanks !
What do you use to wash the towels used in buffing off the coating?
Stan Ng I throw the towels away I use on coatings.
I used spray after sanding and it looks like crap! I didn’t realize how it would react Ajax now it’s visible and has run marks can I just sand that off and start over?
Yes you can but lightly sand then polish

It all depends on the condition of the headlamp.

Mrs. FAB needs all help she can get when it comes to driving. HOOF OUT!!

2000 then 3000 grit

Quick question. I have old shoulders, lol but would using a 3" DA with a sanding disc make it easier or is that a bad idea. I've seen some use the DA to sand, scrub ect...your thoughts.
Richard W Yea it would make it easier just use a slow speed. I have done it with a drill and air powered sanding disc. They all work great.
Good to know. Anything to save the aging shoulders.
We get to hear you talk as you work.lol
