    Did a small experiment with ultrasonic cleaning device. Usually its used to clean tools and desinfect them. However i tried it to clean some fossils. Long story short overall it is a success, it did clean most of the chain corals that i did put inside, but it took very long time - mostly because timer on my device is maximum 8minutes.
    Device model - gt sonic vgt 6250

    What a great idea! And you are right! It's pretty silly that the machine only runs for 8 minutes.

      Well its designed not for fossils, there industrial ones that runs infinitely - but more expensive and takes more space😁

    First comment 🙂 Really cool idea with the ultrasound! This could also work on ammonites and other fossils, couldn't it? Keep on going!

    Thanks for guiding me to this video. I think I will buy one with a longer timer. The fossil corals are beautiful!

    I wish I would have taken time to watch this sooner. That was really cool. I would have never thought to use an ultrasound cleaner to clean fossils. Also the fossils themselves were pretty cool. I’ll be tuning in more often

    What kind of matrix is around the corals? How big is the density difference between the matrix and the coral?

    • @Amberscape
      @Amberscape  Рік тому

      Limestone:), not sure about density but matrix is easily rock solid

      I don't know what the matrix surrounding *his* chain corals is, but I have identical fossils here in Michigan--the US State that looks like a giant mitten on the map--and the matrix is limestone. The limestone can be removed with a vinegar bath PLUS a lot of brushing with an old toothbrush.

    A very nice experiment! Will you get a bigger one and keep on using these kinds of cleaners to prep?

      Yes for sure, a lot safer than vinegar:)
