I like this video , but to your point about avoid “this action” vs that action how can you really control when people playlist you organically? Like if you have 50 fans who playlist you and their playlists get you skips that’s not really the artists fault ….
Thanks for the question! Yeah, every artist gets skips, and it can't be avoided. In the case of organic listener playlists, those people added you to their playlist on their own volition, so it's unlikely they're going to skip your track. In fact they'll probably play it many times (which makes organic listener playlists awesome). But, you can minimize skips while doing outreach to independent playlists. And the best way to do that is to keep your music off playlists where the song or mood doesn't flow well. If you do this better than other artists, your song will thrive in the algorithm. Cheers! Todd
@@BandBuilderAcademy thank you yeah I got 1000+ streams in 10 days on just user generated playlists (from peers) and have done none of what you said except for branding and now I’m thinking of additional things I can do thank you for your advice !
Spotify employees have mentioned this in the media on a few occasions, though not in the past year. But I still see that ratio hold up among the artists and teams that I speak to. And despite the increased amount of music going through distribution, there has been a correlating bolstering of Spotify's editorial staff. But I would say - it feels like they are off pace for Daniel Ek's 2018 goal to have 1 million creators make a living from their Spotify earnings.
Cool, yeah radio seems to be one of the earlier ones artists get - along with Release Radar. Release Radar is tied to the amount of followers you have, and the better the song does in the first few days, the more Release Radar will snow-ball. So having some traffic going to your song early on can help that. Also, encourage your fans to add your new song to their personal playlists. It's worth dedicating a post and email to this call to action in the first couple days. The better the track performs in these early algorithm features, the more likely to get Discover Weekly, My Daily Mix, On Repeat. Streams per/listener and low skips is key to those bigger algorithm features. cheers and thanks for following my channel! Todd
Every distributor handles this a little differently. Email them, tell them that you are planning ahead (your song is coming out on X date - make sure that is more than 4 weeks before you email them), and ask them how you can get a "priority pitch" to have your song submitted for editorial on all DSPs. They will tell you what to do from there. Keep in mind, when you submit to them, they will want to know the promotional activity that is confirmed and scheduled for release-week. Also, you need to give them at least 4 weeks notice for a priority pitch. For albums, more like 3 months. Singles at least 4 weeks, but more is better. cheers!
This is great content, thanks for the tips Todd

That is awesome! And hope some of things tips add to it. Cheers!
Is it really a 1 in 6 chance for an Editorial? That seems way too good.

@@BandBuilderAcademy Thanks for the info!
My radio algorithmic playlist is doing the best for me. I would love to do better on release radar and discover weekly

When you say get a priority pitch, do you mean just email the distributor with your info and track development plan and ask for a priority pitch?
