It's been my favorite E6 song since release, but when Dick asked if there was a song I would like to hear, I was gobsmacked and replied "When I get to the Green Room." 😖
There is something fantastic in this song but it's difficult to describe what. It's absolutely brilliant each time I'm listening to it. Great piece of music.
Valentine says most of their songs are about "nothing", which if you think about it makes them a fine canvas on which to paint with your own mind, but don't try to pin them down. Enjoy them instead.
I like to think this song is about how people hate communism as we sell our kids into wage slavery for the profits of big corporations who care nothing for us the people
I agree, there is something special about this song. Lots of people seem to think its about death or cold war politics. My interpretation is that its about the "American Idol" type audition shows. The "Green Building" being reference to the "Green Room", which is TV speak for the staging area before you go on TV. In American Idol people queue in "longer lines than the Russians ever did" to get to the green building where they give up their dignity "selling our children's souls to the highest bid" just for a chance perform on TV. "These songs will blare of of your eyes when I get to the green building". - Reference to when they perform. "My arrival will be televised when I get to the green building" - Having arrived, aka made it to stardom. The repeated use of the term "interesting", I think, is because as a culture we are obsessed with shows like that and can't stop watching / talking about it. We want to see who makes it to the next round, in an almost voyeuristic type way. "Isn't it interesting to see whose heart shall pass?" "Isn't it interesting to see who lives or dies?" But ultimately its all hollow and meaningless and the people involved are corrupt and evil. "Isn't it interesting to watch them play their game? When they're all such cheaters and they have no shame And isn't it interesting to hear the demons sing?" Not that I have thought about this much :-)
this is what I interpreted from this song, but also my buddy met dick and he said to him that if a song starts making sense he just write something totally different. basically his lyrics make no sense and are up for interpretation!
+hidethefetus Mike Patton from Faith No More does that a lot too. If the words sound good together he uses them, without there having to be any specific meaning behind them.
This song strikes me as being about all the great things that we imagine will happen when we finally "make it", the adulation from others and how awesome it will be. But reality grinds us down, things that shouldn't happen do and it's all futile in the end. Instead of reaching the land of Oz you die in some stupid unexpected way, while the corrupt and unworthy thrive. Funny how things turn out---isn't it interesting?
Well, it's a song about reaching somewhere promising, very fitting for transitions in life. Hmmm..., I'm also going through a transition in my life, is this why I'm here too?
Literally, it's about the Domino's Farms Office Park in Ann Arbor, MI, which is lit up in green neon at night. Dick Valentine would often see it from the interstate.
"We wait in longer lines than the Russians ever did." This line in particular always stuck with me as very poignant. People in Soviet Russia often had to wait in long lines to receive basic necessities like bread, milk, heating oil, etc. because of chronic shortages and rationing caused by the failures of communist central planning. Russians didn't really have a choice - if you didn't wait in line, you starved. Or, you bribed a corrupt party official to let you skip the line, or you bought the stuff you needed on the black market at a hugely inflated price. But in modern America, people actually *choose* to wait in insanely long lines for shit we don't even need, like concert tickets, the newest iPhone, or a table at a trendy brunch restaurant. There are always plenty of comparable alternatives available to us that don't require a wait, but it's an ingrained aspect of our capitalist culture that if a bunch of people are trying to get a specific product, then we have to have it too - and we'll do almost anything to get it: wait in line for hours or days, pay a 300% price markup to a scalper, bribe someone at the store to slip you one early, etc. Our obsession with luxury and status makes us voluntarily do a lot of weird shit that people in communist countries only did out of necessity to survive.
According to Dick Valentine, this song was inspired by the Domino Farms office park building in Ann Arbour, distinguished by it's neon green window lights, and is a metaphor for death.
From Corrections house it salf: Dat song is called kukuxumus(h)u. "Say something once. Why once why say it again"? And as "As one flew over the guckoos nest". "If he is crazy. What are you"?
I can't find the source, but Dick Valentine once said he was driving near the Domino's Farms office building in Ann Arbor, Michigan at night in a fog and all the green lights were so eerie looking that he said "That's where you go when you die." And then he wrote the song. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f7/Domino%27s_Farms_Offices_at_Night%2C_Ann_Arbor_Township%2C_Michigan_-_panoramio.jpg
I think that this song is about voting and democratic system as we know it today. It always had that subtly obtrusive vibe to it. Which reminds me of politicians and their promises. "Our prophecies are realised when I get to the green building." - vote for me and I will make your dreams come true.
This is a super underrated song in their discography.
It’s become my favorite. It’s really pretty deep.

I've decided this will be my funeral song.
Good choice

Piotr Zukowski It's about death? I guess.

Satan's cheerleaders... prancing around the maypole in December.
i don't know why, but this speaks to me.
I like to think this song is about how people hate communism as we sell our kids into wage slavery for the profits of big corporations who care nothing for us the people
It's so good, right? It reminds me of 'The Highwayman', not in the way it sounds, but with its timeless themes about life.
This is why I love ES. Their songs are about nothing, yet everything all at once.
Nothing is something.
@@tommyjay6079 Precisely.
Happy to enjoy this masterpiece. Sad I'm one of relatively few. This music will be appreciated, sooner or later.
Valentine said it's his favorite.
damn right !!!
When they get to the green building
As someone who spends the holidays often driving home past this building, it holds a special place in my heart.
@@billnetherlands Where you can see buffalo? The one near where 23 and 14 meet?

+Chris Holmes these songs mean absolutely. very catchy tho. I think they are all about Satan! lol
+Chris Holmes Dick Valentine has said himself, that his songs mean nothing.
Maybe that's what he wants you to believe ;) hail satan! lol
I love this song! Definitely one of my fav E6 songs along with White Eyes and Transatlantic Flight.

Another gem of a song from E6!!I gotta E6 tattoo for my appreciation of this underrated and my favourite band.

I like it so much but I really cannot fathom what it is. I listen to it a lot when I’m at transition moments in life

All these years later and you're still an unknown treasure! Some of E6's songs are too painful for me to listen to.
They actually deserve way more publicity.
Best band of the world.

This song perfectly emulates the current state of humanity. Didn't see it, until right now.

This is a good song, but it had the potential to be great.

Is it Trump or is the Dems. Take a hit and think about it.
I took a hit and realized its the communist revolutionaries in office masquerading as our own.
