And you never hear these great songs on the radio. Most people have no idea as to what a great serious songwriter that he is. All they know is margaritaville
Flashback 1993: I remember having to drive around with this song to get my son to go to sleep from the time he was 6 months to almost a year old....then, when I lost him in 2010, this is all that kept me going the day of his funeral....just another way JB has touched so many lives, one way or another.
Thank you for letting me take another road, to another time when I couldn’t physically just go. Your music will always help me breathe in, breathe out and move on. I hope the seas are calm, the beers are cold and your watch says Now. 💔 You will be missed but so many will still seek refuge in your music.
A song he rarely ever plays live. Days after Dale Earnhardt died he played it live with pictures of Dale on the screens all around the stage in Charlotte. It was beyond words. Perfect song for the moment.
When I have had a bad day or things just were not going right....Jimmy's music could always bring me back up....RIP your songs will live on even with you gone.❤
I listened to this song and read the story countless times in high school back when both were new. Never saw the video or even knew it existed until today. Except for the homeless part, that was the Tully Mars I always saw in my minds eye.
From "Off To See The Lizard "which in my opinion is one of Jimmy's finest and most underated albums. This song and album always puts me right there on the overseas highway on the way to the keys, which is where this great album was the soundtrack to my second trip there. As I type this, Jimmy is recovering from his fall off a stage in Australia and is doing fine..and I can't wait to hear the funny song he writes about that. We love ya Jimmy, be careful out there!
Something about the album makes the selection of songs stand out more both separately and together. All the songs belong together, no less. Everlasting Moon was supposed to be on the album but was shoved onto the box set instead as a live performance. Adding that song would make the album one of the best period imo.
My first time seeing the video. Almost made me cry! I just retired my 30 year old horse who's been my partner for 24 years. I'm so thankful to God for all the years and adventures we've had together but also very sad that part of our relationship is over. He's now old and I'm older. Thankful for hope and comfort in Jesus.
One of Jimmy's best works. Genuinely an underrated and underappreciated song by both Buffett and fans alike (despite it getting a music video and being featured on a compilation album!) So, it warms my heart seeing the comments value this one.
Long ago I had a dear friend who I scuba dived with, jimmy’s music was always our soundtrack to our adventures! Diving with sharks and exploring reefs all over the planet… wherever we went jimmy was with us… and this song was our anthem. RIP Donovan … see ya in that reef in the great beyond..
Probably the best song off of Off To See The Lizard. Jimmy’s music was the soundtrack to so much of my life and his memory will always be a blessing for me. RIP
I've been a fan since the 1970's. Jimmy sort of influenced my life since then. I became a professional mariner and he traveled around the world with me for about the next 38 years. Thank you sir, its been an amazing life! Jimmy Buffett has been an inspiration for most of my adult life.
I never tire listening to this song. It is underrated among his lexicon of songs. Without fail, listening to this song, I am transported back on A1A heading to the keys.
Off to see the Lizard. Just another underrated Jimmy album. A transitional record if you will with the magic he created with his lyrics. He took another road to another time. Thanks to Scott Webb for introducing me to Jimmy. RIP sir.
One of my favorite Buffett songs. The party tunes pulled me in but it's the depth of his amazing songwriting that made me such a huge fan of his. What a loss. RIP Jimmy Buffett. 😢
Tony Cortese No- The scenes of Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson singing together on stage was filmed in Indianapolis. They performed the song three times for the video.
Kenne This is a favorite album of mine. Son of a Son of a Sailor and Barometer Soup were the other favorites. This was a very 80s one. I wish they had played these on Casey Kasum's show back then. I don't think he was ever on SNL. He must have had lousy manager, then, unless he was managing his band, himself.
I've been a HUGE Buffett fan since his very early days--BEFORE Margaritaville even, in the middle-late 1970's. All the guys & gals in our crowd used to get high & sing "why don't we get drunk and screw" 🤪...This is definitely one of his best songs.
“Off to see the lizard” is still in my opinion the best album Jimmy Buffett ever had. His best singles were in other eras, but the entirety of “lizard” is incredible.
Filmed at the former Islander Drive In theater located on Stock Island. Today there are new condo units build on the site. Sad. This also the drive in referenced in Grapefruit Juicyfruit.
In June 1999 my Father passed away. Listening to the Captain and The Kid helped get through the immense grief that I was experiencing. With Jimmy’s passing listening to it helps me deal with him passing. Thank you Jimmy for the love you shared with all of us. You will be terribly missed. Heaven has a new Angel.
Love how Jimmy can take his songs from over the years and tie them all linto a song, a story, a novel. His books are an inspiration. They take true Parrotheads through a mysterical ride of song and sudo-reality. It's fiction tied into the reality of his "get away" songs. Genius at work. Sing on Jimmy!!
Take Another Road By Jimmy Buffett From 1989 It's Reminds Me Of Alan Kulwicki Clinching The Championship In 1992 NASCAR Winston Cup Series Championship
Of all the albums and music Jimmy ever produced this is my all time favorite. For reasons I can't really explain " Take Another Road" is the one that's affected me the most. And I've been listening to his tunes for 40+ years.
No matter what I still think this is Jimmies most underrated songs ever. Wish he would have sung it in Nashville, maybe I wouldn’t have been so upset about his choices of things he said. Thanks Jimmy! 👍
Somehow I missed this song. But, EVERY song of his is the RIGHT song. He ALWAYS puts me in the right mood. (I discovered him late, in about '82, and have needed his music ever since!) Thank you Jimmy B!
I was a child of the seventies and have always loved Jimmy! This song was played at a memorial after Dale Earnhardt was killed. His songs always told the right story for the occasion. RIP Jimmy!
Just discovered this gem, obviously dovetails with the book but it wouldn't have mattered. How this isn't a song as popular as a lot of the others...no idea.
This was the first time I ever heard a song by Jimmy Buffett. I was 14 and remember it being played at Dale Earnhardt's funeral. I've been a parrothead ever since.
I remember a montage of Earnhardt highlights with this song. I guess in a show shortly after Dale died, Jimmy sang it "Follow the equator like that old Intimidator" so that's how I've heard this song the last 20 years
I love thing song by Jimmy Buffet. I think the song to me means sometimes you need to let go of things of the past or you people you really love or a town or city or maybe you need to start fresh for your own good and get away from your bad past and mistakes. This is a really emotional song that is quite sad.
Sorry I'm late, but the other song is Paradise Line by the video game called Mother, or Earthbound. Never played the game, but I always liked that song. I came back to this, as Jimmy Buffett just recently died. This is my favorite of his songs. Remembering him, as I do.
RIP Jimmy. Shattered… 💔 … thank you for all of the great memories going to so many concerts… thru the ups and downs of life… I have gravitated toward your music… thank you. Rest easy sailor 😢
Great song. I'm considering leaving my teaching job in Ohio (Because our state government sucks!). I listen to this song often. I am very close to having the money to do it. Very soothing and appropriate!
MrArcadia2009 The lyrics "take my pony to the shore" work for me. I haul my motorcycle along when we traveled to the Gulf Coast and on to Cay Hueso. Love riding thru beach towns and on A1A.
One of his many amazing songs, this song usually ends up in my mind in the past, when I used to go to vacations. I especially love songs if there's a story, or if it takes you somewhere.
I'm not going to write squat about the "good ol' days", but here, there's still some magic left. Take the best with you and ignore those who don't get it. They'll be following you too soon in that sympathy anyway. I do wish Jimmy still did this kind of work but I guess I'll live with what and when he did.
I like Jimmy Buffett's silly party tunes as much as anyone, but it's the songs where he tells a story (like this) that are his best.
This song has been going through my head all day! Well worth the ear worm. Still one of my favorites
absolutely ... JB has no bounds !!!
I do not know another artist with such a huge repertoire. He is truly amazing. I am glad my first real concert was him in Charlotte.
And you never hear these great songs on the radio. Most people have no idea as to what a great serious songwriter that he is. All they know is margaritaville
Absolutely!! What a great story teller.
Flashback 1993: I remember having to drive around with this song to get my son to go to sleep from the time he was 6 months to almost a year old....then, when I lost him in 2010, this is all that kept me going the day of his funeral....just another way JB has touched so many lives, one way or another.
Very sorry for your loss Matt Spradlin.
Sorry for your loss😢
😢
So sorry to hear that, we are all mourning this weekend with the loss of JB. I hope JB is singing this for your son up wherever we go!
Deepest sympathies. So glad Jimmys music helped you through and continues to.
To me, this is Jimmy Buffet's best song. This was actually played at Dale Earnhardt's memorial service.
He played it live days after his death, which he hardly ever plays this song live. It was a touching tribute from one legend to another.
possibly my fave also
I agree. This masterpiece should have been a #1 Billboard Hot 100 and #1 Billboard country smash in 1989. Hit #18 on the Billboard A/C charts.
@@Mr.NoName1972 It definitely should've charted higher than Margaritaville did.
TODAY WAS MY FATHER'S BIRTHDAY,
HE LOVED JIMMY BUFFETT. ❤⛵
I still can’t believe that he’s gone just breaks my heart. 😢
And now Jimmy is taking another road. RIP, Jimmy.
I cried listening to this...Who hasn't felt this way at some point? RIP Jimmy...
I feel it every day
This the first Jimmy song I am listening to since his passing. Been tough. This song is amazing and I am sharing with my best friend. ❤
@@Warcrimeenthusiastme too and it’s gotten me through. 🦋💙☮️

WOW... Your Word's Explain it All..... Thank You 👏🎶👏
😢 wow. Nice reply 💕
Beautifully said 🦋💙💖☮️
This song didn't get the attention it deserved. This should be in the group of the 'Buffett Classics' that he plays every show.
Rest in Peace Jimmy Buffett. Thanks for the decades of great music
Goodbye Jimmy, we are gonna miss you😥
A song he rarely ever plays live. Days after Dale Earnhardt died he played it live with pictures of Dale on the screens all around the stage in Charlotte. It was beyond words. Perfect song for the moment.
Legend still rocking NASCAR✝️
I can only imgine
I was there for that concert. It’s one of the most surreal experiences of my life. Came hear to watch this, this morning when I heard.
I remember Mike Joy talking about that. Dale was a Buffett fan too if I remember correctly
I was at that show in Charlotte too. Something I’ll never forget. I hope someone plays this in tribute of Jimmy tonight.
Thank God for Jimmy Buffett........ that man has pulled me thru so many bad times in my life...
Me too
God, my Dad passed about 2 years ago, and he always had Jimmy Buffet playing, it was our entire childhood. This is making me cry really hard today.
I played False Echos from Jimmy the night before my dad passed
RIP Jimmy. You went to a higher place.
Rest easy by a heavenly beach❤

One of the best Jimmy Buffett songs ever. He has something to say and says it in a way where your ears hang on every note.

As a young Floridian; Jimmy Buffet was first introduced to me by my father, and he has forever been with me ever since. Love your songs Jimmy!
I dedicated this song to my friend Paul Anderson. Love you DLD
One of my favorite Buffett songs. The party tunes pulled me in but it's the depth of his amazing songwriting that made me such a huge fan of his. What a loss. RIP Jimmy Buffett. 😢
Spot, what a great horse he was! We had a blast making video in Key West with Jimmy Buffett and crew.
Very cool that you got to be a part of that. Jimmy doesn't make many videos and I think this is his best. Good work.
Hey- I was in a Buffett video too!!! I'm somewhere in the audience of the video of It's 5 O'clock somewhere. Filmed in Indianapolis.
***** I thought that was filed in Jupiter Florida??

Kenne Barton I think his best song writing was before the early to mid 90s. It wasn't all about coastal life etc. Still good though.
