    Thanks Steve for the review!!
We're working on showing the Eye and Sharpness assessment in the Loupe View along with a Dedicated Survey mode
P.S. dragging and dropping a folder anywhere in AfterShoot will automatically make a new album for you too but we'll get in touch with the dev team to have it create a new album when folders are dropped to the dock icon as well :)

Just started using Narrative Select. So far, I like it. I’m going back through and culling old photos, and I’m chugging through a 14609 image album on a 2016 MacBook Pro, and it’s slow, but it’s doing a good job.for albums 2000 images or under, it’s blazing fast even on my older Mac.

I'm from Brazil and I'm testing both! For now I found AfterShoot more complete! As soon as I finish the tests, I'll come back here to give my opinion!
My suggestion is that you add the option to change the language! It would help a lot!

Nice comparison, but if you would have mentioned in the beginning that narrative select is only for Mac you really would have saved me some time ;-).

I, like you, have been using Narrative Select for a while and have more recently discovered Aftershoot. I'm currently using both programs in my workflow - I use Aftershoot for my initial cull, and then I import the images into Narrative Select next. The ratings from AS carry over and I am able to do a more detailed cull in NS. It's a little pricy hanging onto both, but for now, they both have a place in my workflow. Hopefully, with some future updates, there will be a clear winner and I can drop one of the subscriptions. Thanks for this great comparison!

How long before lightroom absorb one of these companies or add there own? i currently use aftershoot and saves a lot of time and is pretty good at sorting the rubbish.

Neither of these tools appear to offer a culling profile that covers concert photography. I've played around with the sports and portrait profiles in Aftershoot, but I'm not really happy with either. What profile do you use when culling your concert shoots?

Hi Steve, great review, please give CullAi 2.0 a try, it is faster than Photo Mechanic for sifting through previews, faster than Narrative Select in AI analysis, face closeups, focus and eye warnings and faster that Aftershoot in automated culling and instant culling preference changes. On top of all this it provides innovative layout and zoom modes to compare similar photos side-by-side. Also it is the first app that brought duplicate detection to culling apps.

...and Narrative STILL isn't on PC. They've missed the boat for a large volume of potential users. Who's gonna change ecosystems for an app when there's alternatives/equals/arguably better elsewhere?

  • @clevermusicbox3630

NS isn't intuitive, it just should be. Using mouse wheel to scroll back and forth thru images isn't possible. You can in Photomechanic. This is an instant FAIL.
You can't change the shortcuts. Another FAIL. Shortcuts popout ends up in another part of the screen - FAIL.
The colours on the icons for face selection or information - what the hell is with that? It's not explicit about what the stupid colour gradients mean. Instant FAIL.
There's no information about where processing is done, local or offsite. Instant FAIL.
Blocked with firewall prior to installing just in case. What goons program this half-baked crap?

Actually I do use T for tagging in Select. There are plenty of shortcuts and some can be changed. And the colours to determine focus work well for me. Seems you've made up your mind though so hope you find something that works for you.
