I realize that a précis and a summary are slightly different but there are some similarities.
I found this explanation on the internet:
“A summary and a précis are both shortened versions of a text, but there are some differences between the two.
A summary provides a condensed version of the main points and key details of a text, often in the writer's own words. It aims to give a broad overview of the original material.
On the other hand, a précis is a highly condensed and structured summary that retains the essential ideas and arguments of the original text, often in a more formal and academic style. A précis typically maintains the original order and structure of the text and is usually one-third to one-fourth the length of the original.”
