  • In Katmai National Park, encounters between bears and humans are a common, yet always thrilling, experience. The bears are familiar with people fishing and they associate them with fish often approaching them.
Katmai is home to one of the world’s largest concentrations of grizzly bears, particularly around the Brooks River area. Here, during the summer months, they gather to fish for sockeye salmon, creating one of nature’s most impressive wildlife spectacles. This scene is featured in some of the National geographic videos. Encounters between bears and humans are frequent yet generally harmonious, as both species navigate this shared space with mutual respect. The bears and other wildlife in Katmai are accustomed to human presence, which allows for incredible, up-close viewing opportunities while maintaining safety protocols.
Katmai national park can only be reached by a float plane as there are no roads going in there.

That is Not a Grizzley bear, that is an Alaskan brown bear. Look up Brooks Falls Brown Bears. It's still a dangerous bear. This one is about 3 or 4 yrs. old, a juvenile.

They are the same species, but the ones closer to the coast are referred to as brown bears and ones further inland are referred to as grizzly bears… mainly geographical distinction 😊

@@gatina7713first of all this is someone else's camera not the live feeds lmfao second they have to be 50 feet away from the bears. They say hey bear because the bears learn the phrase to know humans are around. This was an innocent interaction and what those people paid for. Its a protected park no hunting. Brown bears and grizzly bears are the same species, distinguished only by how close to the coast they live and hence their diet. The ones closer to the coast are referred to as brown bear and the ones further inland are referred to as grizzly bears. In Alaska, in Katmai and places closer to the coast these are called brown bears and the ones in places like Denali national park are called grizzly bears 😊
