I have BMW 318TDS with M41 engine and it uses nearly identical pump. The car runs fine but is very very slow. I already replaced the diesel filter but it didn’t help. Previous owner changed timing chain, is it possible he messed up pump timing? Car also seems to vibrate a lot at idle but idk if it’s normal, it’s my first diesel.

Can you change the 2 big seals(black squares) , without having to remove the whole pump and do the electronics afterwards? @@mechanicigor Will it be out by much? It's just the engine in question is fitted to a VW T3 van and it's not inclined to allow the coolant to get to 85 degrees because the system is intended to cool an old school indirect injection diesel.

It's on the top of the fuel pump you have to remove only the top cover and you will see a small part like a resistor between two pins that is thermal resistor 2k2 or you can replace from another fuel pump I think it's tightened with 2 small bolts

Check whic cylinder is not working by opening the metal pipe to see if the fuel is leaking and you can swap later with another injector to check if you have the same problem on that cylinder

@@mechanicigor sorry to bother you again. I put everything together and tried turning it over by hand. It just doesn't want to go to. I losened the head bolts where the goes on the springs and it turns easier. Is this normal that the springs make it very hard to turn pump round 😂? I'm sure it is but just seemed very hard even with the sprocket on. Cheers

@@chetankarkiOrangeStudio that depends maybe turbo isn't working and that's why there is black smoke or there is to much fuel from the pump better check on diagnostic tester what is the problem
Chetan, black smoke means too much fuel, either through fuel pump, an imbalance in air to fuel ratio(caused by a leak on the inlet side of the engine/ECU over compensating by adding more fuel) or an injector sticking open and allowing too much fuel in. If you can, you need to check for any air leaks on the induction side, split or holed hoses, loose connectors, holes in pipes or intercoolers etc...test the injectors by doing a 'leak back test' and if needed recondition/replace finally the fuel pump should be inspected..not easy but if it is leaking then minimum would be replace the seals...this (the pump) is the most expensive part of the system so I would do that last....hope this helps..
When timing the pump at 12:30, does the placement of the keyway matter? Or do I just have to line up the pin and keyway? I rebuild a pump and aligned the pin and keyway to the ten o’clock dash on the outside of the pump and the car wouldn’t start. Is this because the timing was still off? Thanks

@@OFFLlNER there is no tool for crankshaft, for fuel pump you can use bolt m14 I think and for camshaft 10-11mm spanner tool but you have to remove valve cover
I m having a mk4 tdi is failing to start but the diesel is passing to the injectors all of them. Last the machenic started it but it just went off after minute or so. From there it never started again. The car just died on me while I was driving way back to home. I Took it to some workshop to get the turbo pipes correct but the guy clearly new nothing cos I went the several times. He just took the pipe to the turbo and connected it to the check valve outlet. it did boost but the revs came late and with hi power does when everything started to go wrong with the car. Took it to another work the machine say p1248 and p1556 if I m not wrong. Now they called me and say I must buy a new diesel pump and a new injector. The car is not starting and the diesel pump is pouring diesel into the injectors but does not start. Any help or ideal of what's happening with the car?
Those fault codes are because it was less pressure about the starting I'm not sure what happened it's difficult to guess without working on the vehicle sorry

I have a 1.9 alh tdi the fuel is draining back down from the injection pump I’ve ran a line out of a fuel bucket to the inlet of the pump and engine still won’t start and fuel drains back. What seals on the pump could this be ? Causing air ?
Only a faulty injector can return air in the system fill the pump with fuel and open metal fuel pipes on fuel injector and when they start to leak fuel tighten them one by one with trying to start the engine and you will see which one is damaged

You can't do it without removing and replacing all gaskets if you replace one then other is going to leak

You have remove to change those seals because you can't put it together on the vehicle in horizontal position

I think it will work but you have to replace fuel filter and probably clean fuel tank

Yes it's normal because electronic part is moving that ring and adjust the quantity of fuel so the ball should be aling with the hole in the ring

Quintal Yurts it’s the adjustment detailed in the factory repair manual. Later VE TDIs had an adjustment bolt.

I swapped this engine on a golf mk2

This is electric fuel pump and started to leak fuel that's why I change rubber seals

Fuel quantity should be around 3.0 ~3.2 ml and injection timing usually is around 100 in lower scale and 50~60 in other scale

No there is no seal and if you find that kind of seal it's very difficult to change because you have to desolder the wires

How do you retain the pump timing when the sprocket is removed? Is the shaft keyed?
Set the shaft grove pin for the sprocket at top end and there is hole also inside pin should be pointing up you can see in the video

Dudes, my ve pump lifts fuel twice then drops it back down, could I have stuck vanes in the lift part of the pump?
Try to adjust top part of the ve pump check timing on diagnostic tester and check fuel injectors in real time data
I’ll admit, mines not a tdi, it’s an older idi but has mostly the same parts as this pump has

Because we loosen only a little and to move the whole top part you have to use hammer or big screwdriver to move left or right to adjust the quantity
