    I have BMW 318TDS with M41 engine and it uses nearly identical pump. The car runs fine but is very very slow. I already replaced the diesel filter but it didn’t help. Previous owner changed timing chain, is it possible he messed up pump timing? Car also seems to vibrate a lot at idle but idk if it’s normal, it’s my first diesel.

    • @malcolmyoung7866
      @malcolmyoung7866 6 років тому

      Chetan, black smoke means too much fuel, either through fuel pump, an imbalance in air to fuel ratio(caused by a leak on the inlet side of the engine/ECU over compensating by adding more fuel) or an injector sticking open and allowing too much fuel in. If you can, you need to check for any air leaks on the induction side, split or holed hoses, loose connectors, holes in pipes or intercoolers etc...test the injectors by doing a 'leak back test' and if needed recondition/replace finally the fuel pump should be inspected..not easy but if it is leaking then minimum would be replace the seals...this (the pump) is the most expensive part of the system so I would do that last....hope this helps..

    A good video up until the point of adjusting the fuel metering, NEVER EVER DO WHAT HE IS DOING HERE LOOSENING AND TAPPING WITH A HAMMER, THIS ADJUSTMENT SHOULD ONLY EVER BE MADE ON A PUMP CALIBRATION MACHING OTHERWISE YOU CAN DAMAGE YOUR PUMP BY DOING THIS WHILE THE PUMP IS RUNNING ON THE CAR

    Nice job.
    one thing is bothering me. I have a 1.9 ALH and the injection pump is making a strange noise:
    ua-cam.com/video/u8rxoJqV7c4/v-deo.html
    could be this due to the constant bubles that are circulating in the fuel line?
    thanks.

      I have never heard this sound before I don't think it's the bubbles

      as a side question: do the delivery valves on the hydraulic head make any noise or symptoms when they have signs of wear?

      can I bother you with one question?
      If i will change the 4 rollers (bearings), pins, shims(washers) and the camplate, does the pump still needs recalibration? or it;ll work fine just like that? thank you

    I have a 1.9 alh tdi the fuel is draining back down from the injection pump I’ve ran a line out of a fuel bucket to the inlet of the pump and engine still won’t start and fuel drains back. What seals on the pump could this be ? Causing air ?

    • @mechanicigor

      Only a faulty injector can return air in the system fill the pump with fuel and open metal fuel pipes on fuel injector and when they start to leak fuel tighten them one by one with trying to start the engine and you will see which one is damaged
