    What is up cuzins?! In this video I perform a FULL INSTALL on GAS STUTS in my #topgunjonboat . This mod is no doubt one of the easiest you can do in a DIY #jonboattobassboat conversion. It's simple, sexy, and functional.
    I will do a product analysis of the struts I purchased from Amazon, show you the tools and methods utilized for the install. I install the strut on my livewell hatch but the same process can be used for any hatch in your casting deck on your jon boat build.
    If you enjoy the content and would like to see more, please click the SUBSCRIBE button, it's the biggest way you can show your support.
    Enjoy and may your tiny boat builds be great!

    This is the best Strut install on UA-cam. The rest of the people gloss over the detail. Thanks, you have a gift for this.

    Finally decided to add struts to my Jon Boat hatches. Anthony's UA-cam installations are the best by far. This is especially true for those of us whose Jon Boat is a multi-year ongoing, I got to tinker with it, project. Thanks, Anthony I dread the day these videos would ever be gone.

      Thanks so much man! I miss this good old days of tinkering slowly in the garage on the top gun jon boat! A lot has changed since then but I will continue to make builds and videos and have some good tutorials in the works! Thanks for the support!

    I'd put a piece of 1x2 under your cross brace where the strut bracket is. Then you can put in a 3rd screw and it will also help support so the 2 screws don't spit your wood

    I love all your woodwork. Your are a master of fit and finish. It seems like if you swapped the placement of the strut, close at the bottom and high on the hatch, it might be less likely to be in the way when pulling a fish out of the well. I think the strut would flip over and still be out of the way when you closed the hatch because of those ball joints. Just a thought.

      Thanks for the suggestion! You very well may be right! I just installed based on strut manufacturers instructions. I may look into that though, thank you!

    If you wanted to...install an extension piece for the bottom screw. I know that would bug the hell out of me.... Boat looks great man.

    • @AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats
      @AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats  5 років тому

      Yeah, I thought about that but I'm pretty much to the point where I'm not sweating the small stuff anymore. I just want to finish it. I thought about just cutting off the overhang with a dremel to make it clean. Not sure if I'll do anything though as it functions fine and is very tight and secure with the two screws.

    Awesome video as always!! Im going to be starting a tiny boat soon. (Not for fishing, but for diving in rivers.) A lot of your ideas will crossover to what I am doing. I am taking it a step above tho. i am mounting a 97 seadoo 717 in the boat. South Carolina rivers have a lot of rocks that kill outboard props.

    Anthony,
    I check out the stuff you do a lot. You seem to take great pains in your measuring of things, while Michael Lopez admits he doesn’t ever measure much. You do a great job, so thanks for the content you provide. Am just completing an old Jon boat, but not as a bass boat. Am more of a multi-species guy but my attempt at a jon restoration isn’t up to your standard. Next time I’m going to give it a better shot. Thanks again for what content you put out.

    Where did you get your hatch latches??

  • @Zamboni-0805
    @Zamboni-0805 Рік тому

    I belive they are installed incorrectly. I think the need to be more vertical so they will close much smoother and not come crashing down on someones fingers. You should beable to close the hatch halfway or even more with having to hold on to the lid.

    • @AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats
      @AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats  Рік тому

      Install more vertically and they bind. Geometrically you can flip it but it doesn't support as well on lower pressured struts. The close rate us determined by the pound pressure of strut. The trick is to dial in the right size length and pressure accordingly for the lid. I find success with 10 inch struts in 8 pd, 10 pd, and 22 pd depending on lid size.

      3 things. 1) that's a really heavy deck box. Not a light weight hatch lid in a boat. Your not gonna smash fingers on a hatch lid.
      2) biggest issue, he has the struts mounted under the track or at a lower pivot point on the second lid. In a boat, especially a livewell, you cannot go that low, needs to hit framing.
      3) im simply reshowing the manufacturers instructions, included withthe struts. But do what you prefer my friend

    Great video HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you need to be a little more specific on the clips. DO NOT under any circumstances "pop the clips off". Use a small flat tip to spread the clips if required when installing or removing from brackets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      No not necessarily, once downtrend pressure is released. Id recommend some sort of latch though opposed to pulls just in case they pop openbut that's just me!

    I’d be curious to see how the struts handle wind. Wind from the stern trying to close the hatch or from the bow trying to hyperextend them. Down here on the Texas coast or out in West Texas the wind is always blowing.

    • @chipsammich2078
      @chipsammich2078 5 років тому +1

      It'd take a hell of a wind to affect them.
      If the wind did affect them they were undersized psi.
