So basically a movie is a movie. Stop trying to make me feel like a jerk just because I salivate during the making of the popcorn. Either it’s salty or it’s not. I’m not here to judge.
      Great video yeah? Good job

"The Avengers" was a UK TV series in the 60s/70s, so they may have changed the film title to avoid confusion.

And in 1998 a film version of the TV programme was released, called "The Avengers", starring Ralph Fiennes as Steed and Uma Thurman as Emma Peel - and Sean Connery as the bad guy. Don't think this was released in the US, if it was it won't have been very well known, so there would be no confusion releasing a completely different film in the US also called The Avengers. In the UK, there would be confusion as the proper Avengers, and the Marvel Avengers, are two completely different things.

The difference in film titles is highlighted by the multi Oscar film "The Madness of King George" it was from the play "The Madness of King George III" it was thought the American audience would wonder about having missed any film called the madness of King George 1 and the madness of King George 2 !!

Did American film theatres have a supporting feature? this was a B film that was shown before the main film, also an usherette lady with a torch would guide you to a seat in the dark cinema.

FYI: Here in London and around the UK, many larger Vue and Odeon cinemas have recliner seating...

Im gonna blow your mind now, you can get sweet and salty popcorn combined. Salty popcorn is horrible and sweet popcorn does not make you buy a massive drink.
I think Vue Cinema in Cambridge has comfy seats and maybe also Cineworld in Cambridge.
If you want to find a large cinema locally probably Milton Keynes, you’ll see the delivery robots there too.
Not been to these but Ipswich or Norwich might be Max cinemas.
One massive one in London is at the O2.

Back in the day in the U.K. going to see a film/movie was simply referred to as going to ‘the pictures’ or ‘the flicks’. No doubt as a throwback to their inception when silent films were heralded as ‘moving picture’ shows, no doubt with flickering images.
Also, despite Americans ‘going to the movies’. I couldn’t help but notice that the still shot of one of your home town movie venues: Marcus Theatres. Clearly indicates itself as a ‘Cinema’ in its signage above the Main Entrance.

Love your videos. I have never heard of clapping at the cinema/movies before, certainly not here in the UK. I don’t get the title difference’s between the 2 countries either, but its not just related to films, TV programs also have different titles for the same program. Just for info, Cineworld in Ipswich has a very large screen and 4D & IMAX screens.

We would never call it a movie theatre in the uk, because when we watch a film we do this in a cinema (from the French cinematique) and plays/musicals etc are performed in a theatre.

Over my lifetime popcorn has changed from being exclusively sweet to a choice of sweet and savory. When I was young, I knew of salty popcorn from american colture on tv etc, but it sounded as gross as fish flavoured ice cream.

Popcorn you can get a mix of sweet and salty too. In the UK big cinemas have a good amount of hot snacks too. Potato wedges, mozzarella dippers, chicken bites, wings, to name just a few. Also ice blast is what you want at the cinema icee is not as good. There is also a chain called everyman. You get a nice comfy couch and can order full meals such as pizza and burgers to your seat

Have to say once mulitplex cinemas started I really eased off going.
My old home town had 2 cinemas.
One very art deco and a brilliant sound system but both had really big screens now they are tiny by comparison.
I went to London and saw The Battle of the Bulge in full 70mm cinemascope.
Having the screen wrap beyond your perifiral vison and real surround sound with shells whizzing over head was stunning.
Imax is great but still not as immersive .
I think the prices are silly and snacks just a rip off.

I differentiate movies as B grade hollywood films and films as premium Hollywood or world films. So I'd go to the cinema to see films and trawl Netflix or streaming on a sick day and watch a movie.
