    GET YOURSELF SOME METAL HALIDE.
    "This is a video of how to get better Acropora growth not of how to save your electricity bill"
    This is so true to any reef IMO. Healthy, strong, colorful and well distributed colonies.
    Need more pH? Get a nice kalkwasser reactor and learn the needs of your tank dosing through the day.
    Abe, you're a good person! Some guys might know many of those tips and they don't publish, keeping them to themselves. Thanks for passing your experiences here!
    Thanks for the video!

    Awesome vid Abe, your tank is certainly one of the reasons I got started in sps. Your knowledge and tips have definitely helped myself in keeping the easy sps. I’ll probably try more fancy and unique sps on my next tank.

    Great Vid and one of the most useful channels on UA-cam! I will confirm your theory on mounting the corals horizontal versus vertically. I have been mounting my SPS coral frags horizontally since 2003 and found that I get a bushier looking frag plug as a result versus mounting them vertically which tended to create taller more spindly coral colony. I have a theory on why this is so but wont explain it here as its lengthy. I agree, while LED's have come a long way, are awesome and more energy efficient, I dont think you can beat Halides in an SPS dominant tank when it comes to growth speeds. Using halides I have gotten 1/4 inch of growth a week on Monties and about 3/8th inch a month on average with other SPS corals!

    Nice video, I was wondering when you were going to release another video.

  • @fuffoon
    @fuffoon 2 роки тому

    Number one is number one! All the feeding and nutrients for SPS are great for spending money and feeling like a participant in their growth but my experience shows that when the tank is stable and ready they just grow. I removed a 7 channel doser and all the bottles and things started to work really well. LPS all eat real food so that's no issue. With all the commercial products, there are no empiracal studies for what the SPS is actually using. As I am in the process of restarting my 800 liter aquarium, my little 80 liter is now just some inverts, polyps and sponges and a cowerie that is feeding on the gorgans. I am experimenting on the little tank. I have a bottle of Spongepower and I'm giving it a drop daily. So far, nothing visible is occuring. I'll try 6 weeks to see if a sponge actually responds. I'm not sold on additives quite yet. Water changes? Absolutely! Every Saturday.

  • @edwardwells5864
    @edwardwells5864 4 роки тому

    @ Coral Euphoria...I have been telling folks for over 2 decades to mount horizontally, no one listens. Your the only one that I have ever herd mention that little trick!!! Thats why I buy loose frags unmounted when I can or break them off the frag plug and remount them myself. Initially growth may be slow but in short order it will start growing like a weed creating far more branches in the long run.

    • @edwardwells5864
      @edwardwells5864 4 роки тому

      I learned that trick when I got involved with a coral framing research project with GARF in Boise Idaho. It was something Scott Morell and Leroy Headley were doing. The more "mental masterbation" I did on that concept and looking at what happens in nature, the more it made sense. It really is a thing

      What's up, Denadai?! I just filled up 2 tanks with RO/DI water, one for topping off, and the other for WCs. Now I'm debating what salt to mix. I have 2 boxes of IO and half box of HW reefer. I see a lot of people that have nice acros using Red Sea or TM. It's quite an increase in cost, but idk if it worth it, I will get it. Any suggestion? I was checking ICP tests did on IO and yes, it's low in some trace elements, but overall it looks ok.

    Yup metal halides works very well for growth and coloration of SPS. The only problem is that MH bulbs will get scarcer over time and expensive which made me move to LED otherwise I’ll remain an old school MH reefer. Used to run 1200 watts of 10K E40 MH bulbs in my tank.

    It seems that most companies use Radion XR 15 or 30 Pros. Have you tried them? TSA gets amazing colors with that light as well as WWC. I’d love to see you try them if you haven’t already to compare to Halide.
    I’ve used Halide(years ago) and they definitely worked well and now run gen 4 XR30 pro. My tank is too young to comment if colors and growth is better.

    What bulbs are you using in your metal halleye? I am a marijuana grower and I used to use metal highlights and an high pressure sodium for the flower stage. I understand lighting very well now. I have 4000 W LED's instead of metal. Highlight is the spectrum on my new 1000 W. Adjustable LED is going to be very similar. Because, on the grown shark, it looks very similar. Are you growing coral like you grow plants or is it a full different spectrum?

  • @Up-ey6tm
    @Up-ey6tm 3 роки тому

    Water change just like skimmers, both good stuffs and bad stuffs were removed. Also, parameters could be fluctuated when stability kept with elements dosing, corals could be iritated, not everyone was from the same background.

    Hey, so tell me something please, in a previous video you say you run your tank at 8.0 ish alk, but you are using salt with a alk level of 12. Wouldn't the water changes bring up the alk like crazy?

    • @CoralEuphoria
      @CoralEuphoria  3 роки тому

      I don't change that much water at a time, usually about 15%, so it has minimal effect on the alkalinity. It would be more ideal to use a salt with a lower alkalinity, however I don't think it's a big deal as the whole reefing world wants you believe. I don't let the difference in alkalinity stop me from using a salt that I like.

    My corals stopped consuming alk for some reason, i turned my doser off and the alk is very slowly rising still. I have never seen something like this before. The acros look fine with PE but they are simply not consuming anything for the past 2 weeks. I cant do water changes since i had a dino outbreak about a month ago and have been clear of them since then. But im scared of doing a water change and making them return.
