    Roof spaces here in Australia can be up to 70 degrees centigrade. I've been in metal clad roofs where I take a litre of water, drink it whilst working for 15 minutes, come down because I'm too hot. Wait a bit to cool down then repeat. We've had people die from hyperthermia whilst working in roof spaces. Either way 35 is hot for the U.K.

    With the heat sensors,they can pick up heat from Bush's or trees nearby,they keep their heat so in winter on a windy night when the outside temperature has dropped the Bush's trees are giving out warmth,hence nuisance lights coming on,good job the loft was boarded ,no fibreglass to contend to with the heat 👍

    I was doing my loft boarding dureing the hottest part of the heat wave. It was brutal. Broke my toe the day before to add to the fun. Mesured the temp in my loft with my Thermal camera & in the lost was up to 40*C, out side was 30 something. Took 2 days or so to complete, the fiberglass insolation stuff is super nasty to, would cling to the sweat to make the job even more unplesent.

  • @mikeZL3XD7029

    First off, please make sure that you folks keep yourself hydrated, it may not seem that important, but heat stress is a very real issue.
    Especially if you work by yourself, the first sign of this happening is you get a prickly feeling down your back.
    Secondary to this is heat stroke, where your body will stop sweating and your body temperature will raise itself to dangerous temperatures,
    if unchecked.
    Over here in New Zealand, I've struck in the middle of summer, get into the roof void and some moron has insulated the whole area above the ceiling in wool, this is scraps from the end of yarns out of a factory.
    It was 29C outside the house, inside the roof void, it was 77.5C, it was absolutely mental, I've been a Fire-Fighter for 20 years or so, we wear PPE, because of radiated heat, within 2-3 minutes of being in this roof, I had my overalls , my T-shirt off and was down to socks to step on the ceiling joists.
    When I got out from running the pair of cables, I drank a whole 1.5 litre bottle of water , over a period of about 5 minutes.
    Just be aware of this risk, it could end your life

    We have microwave sensor lights in our building by the the lift (one light in the middle between two flats). They detect people walking through our fireproof doors when we go from living room to the kitchen.
    Also, few times I saw ground floor lights coming on when someone walked into the kitchen right above it.

    • @Graham_Langley
      @Graham_Langley 4 роки тому

      Security Doppler microwaves have problems like this. Had one in a locked store that would go off around the same time but not every night. Traced it to a PVC soil pipe from a toilet on the floor above which the security guy would sometime use on his rounds. Simply dealt with by covering the pipe in foil.
      Reflections happen too. Had one installation where the alarm would go off on early in the morning but only on some days. Turned out to the microwave signal being reflected off the firm's panel van, which they brought inside at the end of the day, and out through a window where it saw the first car to pass up the alley alongside. But it needed the van to be parked at specific angle which didn't always happen.

    I can never understand if I installed PIR sensors and they are near trees or shrubs or any plant that flaps about on a winding night it sets them off because its supposed to be heat that triggers them, I always use Steinel sensors even though they are expensive you might be tempted to use the much cheaper ones but they always seem to give problems compared to the Steinel.

    • @peto22
      @peto22 4 роки тому +1

      Steinel is a quality brand and there is others also. For example ABB has really good PIR sensors.

    • @Graham_Langley
      @Graham_Langley 4 роки тому

      PIRs look for change of heat that seems to be moving. It's not seeing the bush moving but the bush waving in front to something warmer (or cooler) than the bush.

    Microwave sensors have their uses, but they are very prone to false triggering. Not such an issue with light switching, but definitely an issue with alarm systems.

    • @mikeZL3XD7029

      Gee, imagine that, this isn't an alarm system

    • @Graham_Langley

      Problem with Doppler microwaves is the signal is prone to bouncing around corners and also though things like waste pipes and windows.

    Pir sensor doesn't really sense heat, it senses difference in temperature over time. This kind of misconception makes it possible to fool PIR Request for Exit sensors to open doors from the outside if someone uses a compressed air can spray upside down through the door edges. It senses the air getting colder as a person.

    Been installing some 10W sensor lights, and they do work well, low power, adjustable and also very reasonable in price. Just add to each one surge arrestor because they do tend to pop with close lightning strikes, so each junction has a MOV installed to reduce the damage. Long trench to the bottom of the garden to get a cable down there, to both feed the light that is up, and also a feed for the gate automation that is going to be coming in soon. Just have to finish fixing the existing gate, now that it actually can slide on the new rollers and the repaired track, have to get the last bit of bend out from where somebody previously drove into it with a car and damaged it. Then get the posts back into position and get rid of a lean on them.
