wholly shiiiet he's singing my song! I'm a misconstrued catholic thinker too, & am forever seeing the dawn before others... it's frustratingly painful. Thank u Welby, I understand u my disobedient brother! Thank u thank u thank u
As a child of the sixties, schooling was exactly like you portray . I was like the rhino without the habit. Sustained silent reading ..... I later became a teacher and ssr was not easy to maintain. Your creativity ideas are so on the mark. As your talk progressed I had a chill over my body as I asked myself ....the tall poppy syndrome we have in our schools, business . The final statement from Oscar Wilde was on refection beautiful. Thanks ?
great.. always wondered why having ideas on how to solve things comes so easy for me. I thought it must have something to do with not thinking about how it is supposed to be, but nice to know it actually is.
Grammar has like 16 streams for each form, muahaha and you are ranked within your classes and your form class (ie ranked class A-P). It was awesome. I was both "special needs" and "special" so I sat squarely in the middle, though at the top of many classes, such as classics, Tudor Stewart history, geography, biology etc).
When Welby spoke of the book burnings I can't but help think of how many Māori whare and carvings were burnt and buried. They were our repositories of knowledge and because they were seen as being evil by the missionaries they were destroyed.
Welby Ings adds to the conversation against conformity, against homogenising humanity, against the failing school systems and playing the obedience game....STOP being good little kids and obedient compliant boring teachers...and DARE yourself to think, act and LIVE CREATIVELY. It's not about doing the right thing, it's about risking creative activism and intellectual disobedience!
Yes! Good job you were a rhino, Welby. I'm sure it came in useful what with that toxic marshmallow n'all. THANK you for sharing this exquisite point of view with us. This has to be my number 1 favourite TED.

"Questioning is the very source of creative thought"
Just settling for what was achievable , and never going beyond. (I think)

That's simply awesome!

Nice to say, nice to support, but who's actually courageous enough to 'live' it?

I am very disobedient
you must have had good teachers to realize it that late. Usually it's kind of self-evident. Those Teenage-Daycare-Centers usually are just that...
Those whose names you know, but who you have never met.
double Yes!!!! are you a rebel?
Yes!!!!
