That's just dumb, other sony games on pc don't require psn accounts so nobody could've known and it definitely wasn't something they planned. They made a idiotic decision after the release, probably to simplify matchmaking or just for data collection, and they didn't consider some users wouldn't be able to create an account and play. To say it was a plan to force ppl to buy the game more than once is ridiculous and claiming it's ruining ppls lives and finances for being locked out of a game is honestly retarded.
Same with the hackers, it's not some evil scheme to make money. how are they gonna stop anonymous ppl with new accounts from buying their games? Even if they ban hardware id's or credit card info like you mentioned they'll just spoof a new hardware id in a few seconds and use a payment service that creates virtual credit cards. There's literally no way to stop it, all they can do is play whack a mole.
Lastly, the player count rumor, it would make sense that pc has more players than any console since they got more users, but anything else is literally just ppl guessing because sony don't publish those numbers
