By reading the definition of what chikni chameli means I realized that darker skinned females are underrepresented in Bollywood because it is not the ideal standard of beauty there, which I find unfair. This is giving the wrong impression to young females; that they must be lighter skinned in order to be considered pretty which in my opinion is not true.

As a dark skinned female, I do not see any dark skinned girls with my complexion on screen. Deepika, Bipasha etc are not as dark as it gets- so there are no true representations of all the types of indian girls on screen. So we damage our skins with skin lighteners that our stars themselves advocate, and Deepika herself endorses skin lightener!!!

I think you can't understand this because of culturel difference. And of course racist past. Maybe you are not racist now but western countries have such a history and still such a racist peoples. In Turkey, in our songs there are many words talking about skin color, hair color, eye colour or something like that. Some of those are meaningfull and some are not. But nobody never think that like way you think. I am very surprised to read a couple of comment talking about skin color.

@@etusch No this is not like Turkey, they advocate skin care products to lighten skin in India. They view dark skin people as ugly, gross and unworthy. The beauty only exists in "fair people". That is why brands like Fair & Lovely exist in India. Please do not speak on these matters without having lived in India.
