My new favourite channel without a doubt and easily the best UK UA-cam channel, no drama, no bullshit, no acting like "bad man's" and best of all, no just dropping a car off at a garage and not touching a thing on it yourself! Content is awesome! 👌
Track days at Donington must be so addictive. It’s a premium circuit and to have a car you love to drive, I can see why it’s always on your mind. Get that tranny working and get your asses out there!
Great video. I love the honesty and positivity! This will be a great car once all setup. That gearbox will make the car much more raw feeling I am guessing.
If there was a manual that came with that clutch...Love to hear you saying it word for word or even better shortcutting it so its easy to understand. : )
Was wincing at the TV when you were touching that nice new clutch and flywheel with those dirty gloves on your hands but then I saw the crushed jacking point. No fucks given 😂
You saw me wipe it all down with brake cleaner afterwards though eh! Yeah the jacking points need a bit of attention, as do a lot of other bits of the underside TBH. The car is there to be used primarily though.
I love this build just as much as the others!! The M3 is going to be very closest thing to a 90's DTM Touring car! Thr Drensche is going to take this next level. I'd leave this Manual for greater interaction!! Just one thing, will riv-nuts be strong enough when changing gear? Personally a plate with welded nuts welded into the tunnel maybe a better solution. Loving the content cheers👍
That flywheel looks like its a ttv flywheel bought and rebranded by vac. It has the same box as the ttv flywheels i bought for my cars and is packaged the same. These flywheels are works of art and they make them for tons of different cars. I believe that they have a s65 version with a larger clutch surface that you can use. You can also give them custom specs in case you need to space the clutch forward or back inside the bellhousing.
damn I feel dumb! while you guys where measuring with the vernier, I was trying to look at its screen to see the measure, just like if I where there with you! hahahahaha
Torque Converter on a track car please shut uuuuupppppp.... looking forward to the debut track action on this gearbox with the new engine set up your Touring Car Style now......Epic
Q does the Syvecs have torque modelling in its programming ?? Most success I’ve seen with the DCT the ECUs have that ability. Motec, Emtron and I think Max has it now. Great to see your pushing on with it. I wonder how different the 8hp will be ??
It does have torque modelling. We played about with it for months. The 8hp is much simpler to control, and I'm led to beleive the Lamik is pretty dialled from the get go. Craig has one in his K24 Turbo RX8 so we'll know for ourselves soon.
@@driftworks hmm cool ok. I’ve been following the guy from zero to 60 over here and he’s running Lamik on his bmw 8hp. There currently doing one in an s15. We’ll always good luck. Shit that the DCT turned out shit lots of $$$ in that. They just released CL last week on the GCU for DCT but still …. I’ll stay tuned 👍
No torque converter..... Might have a look into the GA8P75HZ hybrid edition, have a flywheel instead of the torque converter + gives you a 110 hp electric boost, ought to be quick out of the corners !
The gearbox was specced for air shift. I just keep forgetting to mention it in the videos. I'm fitting the shifter for now so I can get back out in the car this year.
Next year's video "New clutch for my E30 BMW M3 Track Car" when you realise that the clutch is an unliveable nightmare and decide to take it out. But at least it will give some more good content to watch 😆
Fantastic bit of engineering! That’s going to be such a rocket! Just out of interest, how does it compare on the track to the new GT3? Guess there’s not a huge amount of weight difference?
The GT3 is quite a bit heavier, but way more powerful and grippy. Both cars can move at similar speed around a track at low to medium speed. At high speed the extra power and the downforce the GT3 has will take the prize.
Haha, funnily enough, I was thinking about the Barra when I was doing the flywheel bolts up. The S65 manual calls for no threadlock, just oil & torque to spec. It made me think of people having to weld flywheel bolts into Barra's to keep them in place 😂
@@glennarnold3970 That long and heavy inline 6 would likely ruin the balance and make it feel far more nose heavy. Barras belong in big boats like the Falcon
They are the best you can get in this application. Used on endurance race cars all over the world. I keep forgetting to mention in the videos, but I specced the gearbox build for an actuator and air paddle shift. I decided to do the normal shift lever to get the car up and running sooner, as the air shift requires a fair bit more work.
I actually specced the gearbox for air shift paddles. I just don't want to delay getting back out on track so decided to go this way for now. I have a feeling I'll enjoy it.
@@driftworks ahh good good. Manual definitely a nice old skool feeling. We ran Quaife air shifts on some Lotus v6 cup cars and nothing sounds cooler then an air shift and compressor firing up. 🤣 Great work as always, pleasure to watch. 👍
It's currently manual shift with the lever, but it can use an air shift actuator for paddle shift which I may do later. That uses it's own small compressor and air tank.
Yeah, we have plastic clutch alignment tools, and sometimes have an old input shaft that we can use (when we get the right clutch plates for our input shaft)
Is the seat the one you use or a temporary one? I had an accident a few years ago when I was using a seat like that. Since then I've sworn only to use a seat with head wings and deep set sides. I'm still having issues with my wrist and shoulder to this day. Here's the video - ua-cam.com/video/pAUIfYs5Dz0/v-deo.html
It is, and to be honest I've thought the same. The problem is that nothing is as cool or fitting in an E30 M3 as a Recaro SPG, and I don't fit in the winged version. I do wear a HANS though. They're a total pain in the butt, but well worth having.
I keep forgetting to mention in the videos, but I specced the gearbox build for air paddle shift. I just want to get it up and running with the lever so I can get back out this year.
You know it's lighter than the previous gen S54 M3 engine and the weight distribution of a 4 and a half cylinder long engine compared to 6 makes a massive improvement though right? 😄
No thanks. I do love a highly-strung S14. But that's not what this car is about. An S14 powered M3 would not be keeping up with a 991.2 GT3RS down the Donington straight 🤓

I’m going to have to binge watch the whole build again to see what way you went with the DCT, I’m surprised you didn’t go for a clutch pedal with it.

I saw this trans awhile ago and im extremly interested in mating it to my car. Helpful video on the subject.

That's a rather Gucci set up, will be far more reliable than the dct I suspect 👍

Donington on the 16th hopefully.

Syvecs ECU and HTG TCU.
Such a shame that nobody could get the DCT box to behave itself, it's such a good box. Ironic that you now have an SMG in both the E46 and the E30 😂
