This is one of the many hidden arcade gems Konami never ported to console. If it wasn`t for Hamster Corporation a lot of these arcade gems would never be ported to console.
FINALLY!!! I’ve been wanting Mystic Warriors to come to Arcade Archives ever since it started way back. I’ll be grabbing it as soon as it goes live tomorrow. Now all I need at this point is Kaiser Knuckle, and I’m golden.
Originally released in February of 1993, Mystic Warriors: Wrath of the Ninjas takes the run and gun genre that Konami refined with games such as 1987's Contra and 1991's Sunset Riders and gives it a Ninja motif. Plot wise, the story goes like this. In the late 20th century, an evil corporation known as Skull is slowly enveloping the world with corruption and deceit, and behind the scenes, the evil empire plans to take over the world. And this is where our heroes play a part. These heroes have been trained in the art of Ninjitsu and have sworn to fight evil. These ninjas consist of Spyros, Kojiro, Keima, Yuri and Brad. Unbeknownst to them, Skull intends to corrupt one of them and its up to the 4 remaining ninjas to save their kidnapped colleague (the kidnapped ninja is chosen at random, or whoever isnt chosen in the 4 player version). Like Contra and Sunset Riders, gameplay consists of an 8 way joystick, a fire button and a jump button. Unlike those games which adopt a "One hit, one kill'' system, players can take up to 3 hits before being eliminated. Also, if an enemy gets too close, the player can perform a melee attack. Along the way, the player can obtain items that enhance their firing ability which allows them to use their shurikens rapidly and fire them in multiple directions. They can also obtain items which grant them temporary protection and even perform a screen clearing attack. They can also obtain point gaining items like necklaces and life restoring food like Tempura, Udon, and Sushi.
This is special because the only way to play this game without owning the PCB is through emulation, and for years the emulation for this game both graphically, and sound wise in Mame, was off. This was especially noticeable in the games ending where there was supposed to be flashbacks but because of the imperfect emulation the characters just stare at the screen. I actually remember sending an email to Arcade Archives a while back asking them to port this over so Thank You I really appreciate it.
I am truly happy to see this arcade gem finally ported via Arcade Archives! I really enjoyed Sunset Riders so I’m all the more glad to finally play this game too! Thank you so much, Hamster Corp!
I played Sunset Riders when I was a kid, and I loved it. I always wanted to play Shadow Warriors for a while now. Thank you Hamster for bringing this classic to home consoles. I downloaded it without a second thought. This game is a lot of fun. I know I would've enjoyed this one a lot, way back then.
So glad this finally came out. I hope they also fixed the 4 player lag which I heard from many people that it's original arcade machine had a huge problem running the game at a steady frame rate when playing 4 players.
@@figment1988 thanks I'll check it out. Because I played it with 4 players on New Year eve with friends and it continue to lag and frame rate drops too. Shocking that it happens yet the last game sunset riders never had that problem before.
Yes yes YES!!!!!!!!!! This game didn’t run properly on MAME, it had emulation issues, thx ever so much for porting this game on your platform, now do some of their beat ‘em up games that also had emulation issues like Violent Storm & Metamorphic Force…
I want Rainbow Island and Moon Shuttle, Gyruss, Return of the Invaders, Chase H.Q., Parodius, Fantastic Journey Parodius and especially Marchen Maze for the next Arcade Archives
I know Capcom's worked with Digital Eclipse for their arcade ports to Switch. Hamster, see if you might be willing to work with Capcom on Arcade Archives... Also, I want Asura Blade, Steel Gunner, Dragoon Might, Violent Storm, Metamorphic Force, Dirt Fox, Undercover Cops, Knuckle Heads, Nebulas Ray, Ninja Baseball Batman...
@KarlSturmgewher especially since there's 2 variants. The Japanese and International versions used 3 buttons, while the North American version used 6 buttons (which was a gimmick similar to Daioh, that was intended to capitalize on conversions of Street Fighter II)

Which is why I'm glad this series exists, because it gives obscure companies like Nichibutsu and games such as this one a broader spotlight
hidden how? it was very popular. @@figment1988
Finally, this game gets ported. Violent Storm next please
Don't forget Gaiapolis and Martial Champion
It'll be the matter of time. This is the first Konami GX hardware game Hamster released.
@@KarnovJr I thought Mystic ran on proprietary hardware
@@figment1988It did, on the same board as Violent Storm and Metamorphic Force.
@@CrimsonDragoon23 and Martial Champion
Glad to see more Konami stuff
This game is such a hidden gem, so nice to see this game getting a re-relase

As well as the intro where it's supposed to fade into the showcase of Skull enemies.
@@figment1988 Right. The intro as well. Can't wait to download this when it releases.

HAMSTER, u r the best! Bring us allllll the arcade games
This soundtrack slaps!
Yep. The soundtrack was well done by Junya Nakano and Yuji Takenouchi who also worked on the X-Men soundtrack.
@@figment1988I honestly thought the composer was Izumi Mitsuhiko…
Our dreams came true!

I'm in awe it got rereleased, dunno how you did it, but I'm so VERY HAPPY for it!
What the !? On a mudprintstudio review of jailbreak i said mystic warriors really needs a arcade archive release.I guess hamster was listening.
Bought it immediately
Christmas came early 😁
Why aren't you releasing the arcade archive games on Xbox. Any reason why.
I have already bought it. Please, next "Metamorphic Force" and "Violent Storm". Best regards....
I want Rainbow Island and Moon Shuttle, Gyruss, Return of the Invaders, Chase H.Q., Parodius, Fantastic Journey Parodius and especially Marchen Maze for the next Arcade Archives
Rainbow Islands should be out on the 25th next month. So, you'll just have to wait and give Hamster a little bit of time.
Fantastic news!
Gotta love the 1990s
Ah the memories 😊 I'm downloading it now
Finally!
THIS GAME IS SO DAMN RAD AND I LOVE IT 😎
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉
City Bomber (Konami) would be very nice!
SKULL CAPTURED YOUR FRIEND!!! 😈
I got it!🎉🤘👍
Mystic Warriors 30th Anniversary.
It’s very hard to see why Konami chose Mystic Warriors over Gaiapolis, Violent Storm, or even Metamorphic Force.
Mystic Warriors was the first game released on the "Mystic Warriors-Based Hardware". So the other games might come later.
