When you have fewer items I think you also treasure each item more and they look more expensive because they stand alone. You think about retailers that display fewer items-- you automatically think those items are more expensive. When people have tons of bags, the sheer volume denotes less value and turns more bargain bin, even if those bags cost a lot of money.. all in all great video and I enjoy colorful noire as well. it's ok to be content and I'm glad we're seeing more thoughtfulness around luxury on youtube.

Wow, I worked in luxury retail and never thought about how the concept of displaying fewer items to connote higher value actually shows up in our personal lives as well. Such an insightful point. Thank you!

I think minimalism works best with luxury goods since they’re higher quality and last longer. For me, the point of minimalism is not only to have less stuff but to buy and shop less.

I like this approach. I'm planning a six to nine month "no buy" for 2022, to detox a bit and make my shopping more intentional. I tend to enjoy timeless styles more than trendy, but it's still easy to go overboard with luxury purchases. I want to take some time to enjoy what I have, and really see which items fit my lifestyle best, and then resell the excess.

Love the idea of Luxury minimalism. This is actually what I am planning for 2022. My challenge to myself is to not do any fast fashion shopping, except for basics that needs to be replaced, since I have more than enough clothes. But to keep it realistic I am allowing myself to buy 1 luxury item every two months. Looked at my spending in 2021 and saw that this would be a realistic budget for me. Quality and luxury over fast fashion.

PLEASE NOTE:::: The true wealthy actually thinks this way so BRAVO to you! These influencers are only used by companies for marketing purposes (which is okay to a point) so it can "influence" persons to buy more than they actually need. IT IS TIME TO BE WEALTHY PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Invest in Real Estate and Stocks. I love luxury myself and I have a few pieces as well, but it is good to think long term as oppose to finding out the latest trends that will fade.

    • @ah8064

Precisely. Allow me to add one more point…at every estate sale I attend the majority of shoppers are wealthy. Their money is long and deep because they rarely pay retail (full price) for anything including cars.

I appreciate this conversation! I’m at a point in my life where I’ve been fortunate enough to cultivate an extremely comfortable lifestyle for my family and I but this Christmas I’ve wasted so much money buying luxury things. I spent 10gs comfortably like nothing! I’m shocked! I feel guilty because I wasn’t always able to afford this! So I want to challenge myself this year and cut down on all this over consumption. No one needs so much these are first world problems.

But the function/usability of different handbag types is different - a wristwatch will always tell time and be on the wrist (I guess if someone wants a pocketwatch and a wristwatch we can't be mad using this analogy) but a handbag can be a clutch for going out, a crossbody for daily and a tote for when you have to carry everything but the kitchen sink; so I get it for sure.

I love these concept, because it's mine. I think ads and celebrities keep us going and wanting unnecessary things things, that don't enhance our lives. Nor adds to our well-being and we get lost sometimes in the things. We don't look after the most important thing, the most precious, thing that's been given to us which is ourselves. Adorning oneself is important, because we must present ourselves to the public, but that could be done without unnecessary or unfunctional things. The Egyptians are people who loved Elegance, but it seems to me that everything they had was very functional it had purpose. If had meaning and it never necessarily wasn't many duplicates of it. So with that I said bravo to you for bringing this topic to the forefront and I'm living with this in truth thank you.

I employ the same philosophy Tyshira on luxury minimalism. Partly because I’ve put three kids through college 😉 but also because too much of anything (except money) clutters my mind. I bought a Michele watch with a diamond bezel 15 years ago and it keeps on giving, dressed up or down. While it’s not super-high end, it is the only watch I need until I can afford the Cartier Ballon Bleu which I will buy pre-owned. Years ago I found an amazing vintage Dior clutch, it’s black and serves as my quintessential evening bag. I don’t need twelve more black ones. Intentional shopping makes me feel good and I just covet a great find.

@@tosin1018 so cute! I got a Burberry wallet on chain because I carry larger things in my diaper bag on my baby’s carriage and just need my mask and money ID and cards on me. And I also got the Kate bag with gold hardware with the tassel but in the wallet on chain as well. It’s for just my phone and lipstick. Some small items for fancier occasions. I love both bags a lot. I’m still really craving another leather bag with silver hardware for ysl. The envelope wallet on chain because it’s versatile and can be used for everyday and better occasions. My Burberry bag is in fabric and brown pebbled leather with a gold and leather chain so I can use a black bag for everyday as well. Yes, they can co-exist and this is definitely me primarily because I just don’t want to own a lot of stuff across the board, whether it’s luxe or not. The only luxe items where I have multiples are bracelets and Louis Vuitton agendas. I only have 2 luxe bracelets though, the Louis Vuitton nanogram cuff and the Prada Saffiano leather bracelet. I wear them both everyday as they’re both very different with one being more glam and the other being more casual - I like the contrast. I have 2 of the Louis Vuitton medium monogram agendas simply because when I’m 60, Louis won’t be making them anymore and I need to plan in Louis for the rest of my life so I just rotate both of mine so that they get equal wear. And then I have the LV desk agenda that I use as a book cover.

This was such a well thought-out video and insightful message! My goal for this year has definitely been to curate my collection of luxury goods and become more of a ‘luxury minimalist’. It really has been jarring to see some of the massive luxury unboxings especially here on UA-cam with people unboxing the same Van Cleef & Cartier pieces every week, but in masses. Personally I prefer to buy fine jewellery pieces that I LIKE and that suit my personal style, rather than what everyone else buys. Just come to show if u don’t absolutely love something, don’t buy it. Think we’ll about your purchases and you’ll be less likely to end up not using em down the line.

    I just found your channel.
Generally speaking, I buy one of each kind and brand of jewelry I like. When I get a better version, I sell the old one.
As far as clothing goes, I sew special pieces of clothing myself so I can get just what I want, and so I get a high quality items, custom-fit to me. I also buy used clothing. When I find a basic piece of new clothing at a good price that I know that I'll want to wear often, I buy exact multiples so that I can keep wearing the same look for a long time without having to search high and low.
I am very picky about my handbags and I don't change them often. I do have a few better quality larger ones because to me they are classic and will never go out of style. I've also got a beautiful clutch that works for fancier occasions.
I'm looking forward to more of your videos.

I've been a firm believer of "the one" for years. One time, when I lived on Okinawa, I fell for a glassware design called Galaxy. I drove to their glass blowing factory to see what was available before I bought "the one" piece I found the most beautiful. Fast forward to 2021 I bought my "one" Hermes bag, a Cinhetic in rouge pigment (its under the radar and unusual) and a cartier tank Americaine (as a promotion me-gift). I'm satisfied.

I love this sentiment because it is my ideal theory. I don’t need a lot of luxury nor do I buy luxury because it’s trending; I will wait years for something I truly desire and don’t desire to have more than one of a particular style. I love listening to you talk very refined and elegant😍😍.

I am also a luxury minimalist and thrifting is just a hobby where I look for Quality vintage items that I can use in my wardrobe or sell I don't believe and collecting a bunch of stuff I'm also a one-and-done person except for my fragrances and I need different types of handbags that are functional for different occasions, I don't have money to just be wasted on collecting things that I do not use or need. I purchase or get gifted 1-2 luxury items throughout the year (usually at Christmas) .. I like timeless pieces. I’ve had the same LV wallet for years, and Just received a YSL wallet for Christmas yesterday. I feel like a LUX minimalist? To me, You cant go wrong with wearing black (thrifted), adding a blazer, one great luxury bag, bracelet, luxury watch, nice sunnies, a great shoe and wonderful fragrance ..

Love your content, you are a beautiful and conscious luxury consumer, I have the same attitude. Never been a big fan of fast fashion...As for someone who grew up in Africa with Solid Gold everywhere (I have a hard time getting jewelry from Luxury Brands and call them investment, I was fortunate to have unique pieces (Solid 18K,24K Gold from my Mother) and Custom made some of my Gold Bangles: with that said, Mr Hubby is the one bringing all the big names and they are welcome anytime. I believe in less is more ( Watch wise, you will certainly enjoy the Rolex Date just I have it in size 26mm I'm tall and Athletic Build and it balances my frame (not Big standing on your face). Another Mid range Brand will be Longines "Dolce Vita" . Honestly, it's about having meaningful pieces...The collector mentality hmmmm. Keep up the Great videos with that unique approach . Bisous

I have been looking for a channel like yours! I found you! Thanks Algorithm, girl. Clicked on video for the subject matter, subscribed for the 90's pop-culture references, lol.
Yes, besides craftsmanship, luxury items are special because they are not ubiquitous. Not in all cases, but sometimes it is hard to notice an extremely special thing if the viewer's eye can't float and rest on it when competing with too many other things.
The culture of fast fashion genuinely has warped our perception of how clothing and other fine goods are made and who is making them. We desperately need a culture shift as a society that understands that minimalism is NOT lack. Quite the opposite. It is contentment because the person embodying that lifestyle lives a full life. The same philosophy is applied to 'maximalism'. Taking time to get things, creating meaning for those things, creates a beautiful composition, not one you want to just toss because no one else is 'doing the look' anymore.

I love this concept of luxury minimalism. I’m the same in everything except Bags are my kryptonite and will continue to buy them. Watch & jewelry, yes I’m good with one of each! From Cartier, I only want one Cartier Santos watch, one ring, and bracelet. I have one Hermès clic clad bracelet and that’s it and don’t plan of getting anymore.

I really like your jewelry collection expecially Zebra Hermes bracelet :) I think that the idead "I only want want one" is brilliant, because this is what makes the style unique. I actually think that minimalism is all about one, intention, less, luxury. Because lets be true, if you have one Burberry coat (for example), you are never going to want any other :) so in fact you only need one :)

I agree with this philosophy. For most people those pieces are investments. For me their are a couple exceptions tho. I'd have a few David Yurman cables. They look great stacked. One handbag per designer is probably enough. However, Fendi n Dior have more than 1 style I want.
