Well done Lewis, I was one of those pacing guys. Looking at my strava we rode together most of the way. I agree about taking it a bit easier on the bike, I PB’d on the bike but left I could of gone harder at times
No way really, well thanks for the ride! I hope you had a good race! Yeah I wasn’t too sure how hard to go on the bike and don’t have a power meter which doesn’t help, also my HR monitor on my watch wasn’t working either so struggled to pace it. Until I realised we were 50 miles in and my legs felt fresh haha. Was definitely a really good bike split though, I probably should have gone to the front of us guys a bit more and tried to push it for us all to be honest haha! I’ll learn for next time, thanks dude!
Great recap! I did the same with the swim start, I was too honest in the projected time, so probably lost 2/3 mins in the swim fighting through people, then didnt have anyone to work with on the bike. Its really interesting, as your day went exactly the same as mine (similar times too!) even down to the weird aching hips!
Was racked next to you mate, 434, not quite as nice bike as yours 😂 came into t1 with your bike long gone so you must have gunned past me on the swim, top stuff from there on in, well done!
No way really? I remember seeing your bike, it was a black one wasn’t it? It looked good dude! Not always about the bike, it’s about the rider haha! Hope you had a good race mate! 👊🏼
Calf guards definitely faster, abt 6w faster and I find they help me on the run (could just be mental). I use the Aerocoach ones made by nopinz and love them - Thanks for the shoutout! Smashed your 1st one!
Legend, thanks mate! I’ll have a look at the aero coach ones and get myself a set and give them a try! Everyone seems to be using them these days so worth a short! Thanks again mate
Hahaha it’s horrible! I saw someone do it in front on me in this race, thought to myself I’ll give it a go and couldn’t bring myself to do it! Certainly can’t do it training haha 😂
What HRM are you using? Your heart rate data on the bike and swim seemed off. Bike way too low, in the 80's bpm. Then the run averaging 186 seems high.
It was just from my watch, yeah the bike was an absolute mile off but my run was actually pretty much spot on! I’ve got a super high heart rate haha, can quite easily get it up to 200+!
Thanks so much Dan, I really appreciate it! Hahaha, not sure I can call myself much of a UA-camr compared to yourself but I’m always up for the challenge! 😂
Thanks so much dude, appreciate it! Ahh yeah, I didn’t actually have too much caffeine at all to be honest. I think people can rely on it too much on race day and give them GI issues so all I had was one cup of coffee in the morning and that was it :)
@@LewisFordham super simple: rear one on quick release and front one wrapped around front derailleur (the square bit where you can adjust it) - it will snap once you get going. I tried it the day before my 70.3 and didn't kill myself 🤣
This is great insight and in depth race detail. Well done.
Thank you so much, really appreciate it! 👊🏼

You make very engaging videos mate. Really well put together and edited well. Looking forward to the next one
Thanks so much mate! Next one is definitely going to have some good footage in so hopefully will be a good one, thanks to yourself haha!

As if haha, well at least I wasn’t the only one then! 😂 hope you still had a good race though dude! 👊🏼

@@LewisFordham hopefully see you at a few more races
Great recap. Curious to know whether this was a draft legal event?
Thank you! It was a non draft legal event :)
I struggle to wee on the bike as well - Horrible feeling. Up to you whether you practice it in training though 🤣

New subscriber here! Congrats on the race!
Ayeee thanks mate! Really appreciate it! 👊🏼

Great debrief. Something to build on if you think you have more in you. 👌
Thanks so much mate! Appreciate the feedback! Like you say it’s a great starting point so I can’t complain too much haha, thanks again!
Brilliant race Lewis! Well done indeed. I can feel a UA-cam’r head to head coming on 🤣

Did you used to do another sport competitively before doing triathlons?
No nothing at all, I rode BMX a lot when I was a bit younger and then got into the gym and now triathlon :)
Nice report and impressive effort I think! You didn't mention you caffeine intake if you had any?

100% leave your shoes on the bike in T1, so much faster !
Yeah I’m thinking I’ll give it a go in practice and see how I get on with it! Need to figure out how to do the elastic bands thing first haha
