- In this episode D tastes Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon.
D is tasting the Austin Hope 2015 against the 2020. The 15 was scored 95 points by several wine critiques. Is the 2020 anywhere as good?
D thinks it is a close call, but he likes the 2015 a tick better.
Thanks for the review. I appreciate all the hard work
Thank you for the informative content D. I love your show
Thanks
Love these videos you keep rolling out. I especially am a big fan of Paso Robles wines. Austin Hope puts out a less expensive wine, very comparable to the Justin called Treana. You should try that one, we really like that one, especially at a lower price. Cheers!
Will do, Michael
Great video D! We were at Austin hope and Justin a month ago. The 2020 is great and the reserve is amazing. Treana and Austin by Austin hope are better budget wine under 35$ or so dollars great value would be interested to know what you think. Great people at Austin hope to. Also if you explore more of the Daou wines bodyguard and eye of the falcon are fantastic. Thanks for all the great content!
Thanks Kirby, much appreciated!
Thank you Mr. D. Paso is awesome!!!
Austin Hope is one of my favorites!
Thanks John! Keep on drinking
Your neighbor didn’t even bother to clean up after her dog. 😂
Bad neighbor
Hey D. Do you think it’s fair for UA-camrs to review wine without letting it decant or aerate to open up? Just asking. Love the channel.
Peter, only wine with high tannins need to be decanted.
And even that is disputed among experts.
Just visited the Barolo region in Italy’s Piedmont, arguably one of the most tannins rich wine that I certainly would decant, but the wine makers and sommeliers there argue against it.
Watch my video on Decanting and you see where I recommend it.
PR Cabernet is not one of them.
D, would love for you to try Rusack Winery and Brave & Maiden and hear what you think. I just came back from both wineries and am a big fan.
Will try
You should check out Booker wines My Favorite Neighbor or their slightly cheaper blend Harvey & Harriet, they're both great and Eric Jensen might just be the next big star from Paso... They got famous from their other very good, but more expensive bottles of Sarah, Tempranillo and other blends (the Syrah is usually very highly rated but runs close to $100 a bottle here in NJ)
Thanks Jeremy, will check those out
Jeremy has a good palate 😋 2018 My favorite neighbor is an excellent Cab...I'd Put it up against anything from Napa under a 100. Thank You D. H&H also a nice blend.
Welcome back to the States Sir 🙂
Thanks Michael
Have you tried the Austin Hope Reserve as well??
I have not. But it is on the agenda!
I have, punches well above it’s weight! 🥊
I've had both and the 2015 is definitely better. I would buy a case of the 2015 if I could find it.
2015 was so much better 4, 3 and 2 years ago. I had a case and was fortunate to taste it every year over and over. It is starting to loose its magic.
The dog in the background did not think much of the Paso Robles 2020.
True, he could not care less
🍷🍷
💯
Wish you had tried the Justine Isosceles rather than the base Justin.
Next time
The Austin Hope Cab is better than the Justin Cab. The Austin Cab is better than the Justin Cab and cheaper. The Justin Merlot is a great wine and better than their Cab.
I'll have to try their Merlot! Thanks
2015, 2016 and 2017 were their best vintages. 2018 and 2019 are VERY over produced and almost tasted too engineered.
2020 tastes strong and 2015 is starting to loose its magic.
@@decantswithd I have a couple of cases each of 2016 and 2017 vintages in my cellar along with a handful of 2015...perhaps it is time to start working through the remaining 2015 bottles. Have a couple 2017 reserve cab bottles but have not tried it yet.
Man I completely agree. I did not like the 2018 at all. It was almost chalky in texture and very monochromatic in profile that became exhausting.
@@decantswithd These super ripe wines oxidize quickly!
