Hi Ben, excellent driving. I was there in that day in the red C7 Grand Sport. I ran a C5Z06 for 10 years on track including NASA Time Trials with 315 square and 315/335 with no ice mode issues. I put bigger radiator w/ oil cooler, bigger front brakes and coilovers/T1 bars, the car was awesome. Good luck with the car!
Thanks for the input. What year was your specifically? Now I’m just trying to figure out why some people run into Ice mode and some people seem to never have an issue, even with very similar setups. Before you mentioned your findings the front tire circumference was my primary suspect, but now I’m thinking it can be a combination of things possibly.
@@BenFreedmanRacing I had a 2002 and 2004, no ice mode with either car. The EBCM went out in my 2002, they don't make them anymore, there is a company that repairs them, ABS Fixer?, I think. Hopefully, the ice mode is not related to that.
Nice vid! 04 Z06 here. I have done a whole Sparco seat/harness setup, upgraded KNS cryotreated rotors and Hawk pads, steel braided lines and racing fluid, urethane sway mounts, spec endlinks, sticky Conti's and coilovers. I kept the stock wheels and the stock tire sizes and I tell ya what, this car can just go! Only one track day but just having upgraded seats alone makes these cars 100% better to run. I recall screaming (in bliss) in a long sweeper as I accelerated and all I was doing was turning the steering wheel. Before, when playing on the streets, I would just hit corners hard and I could barely keep myself in the seat. World of difference. Any way, great vid and filming!
Ice mode sucks. Luckily I've never encountered it. I think the only fix for it is the BMW ABS controller swap. The only documented fast lap I have there is a 1:53.7 in a 260whp 4th Gen Camaro on Toyo Proxes RR 275/40/17. Those tires, size for size, should be within 2 seconds of your tires. I don't say that to thump my chest as I left plenty of time out there. I say that to indicate that I think you're leaving time all over the track. The first thing that struck me was your (seemingly) early brake application into T1. If I lived closer and knew the track better I could offer more pointers, but like I said I left a bunch of time out there. Such a ridiculously fun track though!
I'm not aware of the "Ice Mode" as well. Let us know. Tracked my C4 and C5 a lot, biggest issues with me were brakes&pads - fluids, tires always a big expense. Always had a ball with these cars at Thunderhill, Laguna and Sears Point. Ben, great heel & toe tech. Great video!
Thanks for your feedback. From what I have figured out so far my square setup could be triggering it a little easier. My 315/30/18s are only 0.4% bigger circum. in front but 2.7% smaller circum. in back, than OEM, so that is definitely playing a part. I have a tech II programmer but there is no way to change the tire diameter. There are a few ways to get around it if it continues to cause me trouble, they just aren't ideal.
I wonder if putting the car in "competitive driving" mode will get rid of ice, I wrecked my first z06 because I didn't realize it had this mode, I was running hot without traction control. Hold the traction control button down for 5 seconds and bam. Haven't played with it much on my new to me c5 z06 because there's snow and ice outside but I was able to put it in that mode. Can't wait to try it out
To stop sliding in the stock seat: From your desired position Move the seat back Pull the belt all the way out Let it click back in it shouldn't pull back out Move the seat forward again
@Ben Freedman Racing I'm glad you've got a real seat. This is advice for people that just realized that they slide around in the seat. I'm 150lbs, and I can only assume by the condition of my seat previous owners were double that. I had to do that maneuver just for the belt to feel like it was touching me at all
Oil pressure didn’t seem to drop one bit, very healthy oil pressures. I usually tend to run slightly more oil in most of my track cars. Maybe a quarter or a quart or so
They poke out. The corvettes wheel fenders are flat, there is no tucked in space so no worry about eating fenders. 315 is probably the absolute limit though.
Coming from a FiST to the C5FRC, am greatly disappointed in the steering. Your new steering wheel, is it smaller than stock diameter? If so, did it improve things? Also, the wider tires on the front, how is it on the street, tramlining?
Steering has felt pretty good on mine. The OEM wheel is 380mm and my MOMO Mod 78 is 350mm. Definitely makes the car feel like it turns in quicker. What aspect are you disappointed in with the C5 steering? Does the car feel unresponsive, have slow response, Understeering, numb steering feel? I felt the biggest difference with the square setup and the new dampers. The wheel and the bushings I replaced also play a role but not as significant. The wheel also just feels so much better, but I had to use the right combination of adapters to get the spacing right, too many people just stick any hub adapter on and the wheel sits way to far forward if not spaced right. The car tracks strait and doesn’t trail off center too bad. It actually is one of the more enjoyable cars I’ve had for street driving. My first video on the car has my caster specs in it, they aren’t too aggressive which is why it doesn’t really wonder on me.
@@BenFreedmanRacing it's slow and numb on center. I've read the slightly smaller steering wheel helps, and is one of the next planned mods. The driver's seat is broke down a pretty good bit too, which I think is hurting steering feel as I tend to use a death grip on the wheel to try and hold me in place. I have some new Braum seats sitting in my wife's office, getting installed in the next weekend or two. Everything's ready to go, C6 belts and extra interior panels to trim, l just have to get some free time.

Nice video! Had a question for you - How do you sign up to do this type of run at a track? I've always wanted to do this but don't know how. I did scca time trial runs before but want to get on an actual track. Thank you!
There are lots of groups that rent the track for events like this. Some folks like brand specific, like Porsche, Lotus, or Corvette, and some are "run what ya brung". Nearly all provide instructors until they are convinced you can run solo and follow their rules. I have run mostly with Porsche (PCA) and a few with NASA, but plan this year to expand. Look up Hooked on Driving, Track Masters, Speed Ventures, and Speed SF.

What alignment settings were you running?
Nice job, what lap timer app are you using? Thank
Stupid ice mode is really annoying. Ive had it even just autocrossing in my C5Z...only thing really to do is swap to a BMW abs system.
Thunderhill this Friday with speed sf.
I was just out last Friday with them but I’ll be out again soon! Video coming soon
