Great choice, screw the minimum rust. The red truck had low power and poor fuel economy. How I know the crown metal side of the turbo on the red Pete was dark black. That means too much temperature of unturned fuel. Now compare it to the white 2003, that side of the turbo is brown, from top to bottom. Equals great fuel economy, power and engine perform at all times. Plus you have an out of frame overhaul. Someone put more money into that engine then the truck is worth.
That truck should climb any hill at 80,000 at 45 minimum mph to 55 mph loaded and any big mountains. Good choice dad.
Having a ride you can take pride in makes trucking enjoyable.

Those tanks are wrapped with stainless steel. And the rims are aluminum. 300 bucks a pop. And you can keep them looking like chrome by polishing. Safe travels
I always take the truck that I potentially buy to a dealership and put it on the dyno and get really HP numbers that way you know if the truck is good to go

If it weren't for the engine and trans having been done I'd have said that was a big mistake buying that one. But your dad's right "fuck it you only live once".
My first truck was a 2014 pete 388 with the cummins deleted and tuned. Thing made 600whp, 80,000lbs felt like 10,000lbs gobbs and gobbs of power. If i'd had known it had a bad tune that was going to cause valve seats to drop out of the head I'd have put the def right back on it. Now I'd rebuilding from bankruptcy with my second truck, this time not deleted!

I would recommend you take it slow with the white truck until you can get new tires for the rear because those look like they are recaps no virgin tires and when it gets hot in the summer they blow if you drive too fast
