I accidentally buried my Mego Superman in the garden when I was 8 or 9, I was about 20 when I found it again while gardening with my dad. The clothes had completely perished, all that was left were his bright red boots, the figure was in superb condition, even the paint on the head and face was still mostly there. The metal joints had well rusted though.

Bro, tragic true story... some of my Mego Batmans ended up in a tree, too high to safely retrieve, and another Superman [whilst attempting to make him fly with a long shoelace], and up on the roof of a passing car, going past at about 60kph. We lived on a main road; not my proudest moment.

Yeah Early Mego Action Figures we're quite Fragile and the joints easy to break . My mom brought me a Action Jackson action Figure he's parachutes set and last ,but not least... He's scamble motorcycle ( Three wheeler model that ran on c batteries) .
I was never particularly rough with my toys ( I still have my hot wheels and matchbox cars from point in time . Like alot of kids ,I attempted to use my Action Jackson and place him in my parachute accessory( like the TV commercials) and toss him down a second story balcony with disastrous results.
The parachute did not deploy, and my action Jackson just , helplessly fell to the ground and met his maker 🤤🤤.
The springs to his joints popped off and I could not put his leggings back together again. Due to my callousness (and reckless.stunt) of the situation my Mother refuse to replace him and I just have the scamble motorcycle to this very day 50 years later in it's original box with its original price of $5 from toys r us. ; Which like Mego the toy manufacturer is now defunct.

I had the whole set as a child! I played with them so much that they got broken. The transporter I accidentally broke right away by tossing the figures in while it was spinning (I was 4 years old!) I found a mint on card Uhura at a toy shop that was closed down for over 10 years back in the 1980's, for the original price! I bought all of their 60's-70's toys that were still sealed, and stored them all away. Sadly, they were all destroyed by a flooded basement in the late 90's. It makes me want to cry as there is no way of recovering that HUGE collection without spending thousands of dollars.

Back in 1972 (I was 8) my mom bought me a behind the scenes Star Trek book I used as reference. (No CD's, Internet etc.) I then constructed my own TV version bridge, sick bay, transporter room, captains quarters, corridors & shuttle craft for my 8" Star Trek figures. It took up half my bedroom! 😄 Oh! & the Mego Bridge became a space station/briefing room/engineering room! 😎👍

I had Kirk and Spock from this line. I can't remember if I had just the transporter, or the entire playset, but I clearly remember putting them in the transporter, and spinning it. I was very young when I had these toys. I would have been 4 for 5 when I got them. We moved when I was 6, and I don't remember them making their way with us to our new home. I wish I still had them today. I still have all my Kenner Star Ways figures, and have some on display in my living room.

Looking back, I think it was the exclusive store version since it all came together and was (to the best of my recollection)unopened before me. GREAT memories. There are a million channels covering Transformers, Star Wars and Marvel, but not so many who give the love and respect to these amazing older toys and figures. Companies like Mego and shows like Star Trek really helped pave the way for all that was to come and nobody does a better job of giving them their proper due than Analog Toys. I just purchased the new figures, that Marty Abrams is producing, of Kirk and Spock. Got them at Target. They represent the Trouble With Tribbles episode.Kirk is in his green informal shirt. Both have a phaser and communicator in correct color scheme, black with silver trimmings. Spock has his tricorder also in black. The delta is now silkscreened onto the shirt instead of a sticker. Also small little tribbles came in both packs. I have too many tribbles to be honest, but I have the little buggers posing with Kirk and Spock. I’m thrilled with these figures.

Lovely video as always, Tony. I do love original Trek and TNG; never had any of the Mego figures however. This does entice me to try the line out. The Galoob line came out when I was 4 or 5 and I fell in love with it as a child - I was always disappointed they cut the line so short. I always felt Galoob had better sculpting and proportions than the Playmates line. But back to the Mego figures - they just look so cool! And you're right about those head sculpts - genuinely impressive for any era, especially the 70s.

Excellent review. You always do a great job of covering the finer details about these lines and giving historical context. I think what really made Mego vulnerable to Star Wars was the fact they had become too reliant on the eight and 12 inch lines for revenue. If you look at the life span of those figure lines, there was a fad quality to their popularity. Action Jackson was introduced in '72 and was a hit for only a year, then nose dived. Mego jumped onto superheroes in '73 and those were offered in assortments until '76. From there they played with scales, but ceased offering new heroes, choosing instead to align with movies or TV to push their 12 inch assortments. Trek was one of the few lines where they seemed more committed.
On a side note, allot of hay is always been made over the fact Mego was the last(but not the first) company to utilize Marvel and DC licensing simultaneously. Anyone forget Ideal's Captain Action line which had both? The irony is in the bronze age of comics, Mego walked away from allot of characters in their prime, like DC's Green Lantern and Flash, or Marvel's X-Men, Swamp-thing, and countless rogue of villains that were barely touched. So as much as collectors talk about what was made, there's equal conversation about the painful omissions, because the company seemed easily distracted to jump onto other licensing.
Marty Abrams had taken his parents company that had run mostly as a disciplined and conservative rack toy company to becoming more of a high roller in licensing. And while the hero and movie licensing gave them a brief glow of success, his knack for trend chasing spiraled the company into debt. This is why no other toy company besides Mego, talks about the Star Wars license with such a dark cloud, because other toy companies were more diversified in their product development. Trek is one of those few licenses that Mego actually explored with some detail. It's a shame they had a less informed opinion on the hero licensing.

Finally got to see this! Busy day! 😁
THANK YOU for this, Mr. Tony! Really Appreciate it! 👍
Never knew of the Remco 'Star Trek' line. Thanks again.
The Mego Star Trek line was arguably its most successful sci fi property. Its said that those released via Sears (in cardboard boxes) command higher prices than the blister cards.
Still, there were Star Trek characters that should've had figures: IE :Mr. Sulu (the helmsman), Yeoman Janice Rand. The Klingon & Romulan figures were generic, in that they never were the known characters, like John Colicos' Klingon Cmdr. Kor, from Errand of Mercy, or the Romulan Commander from Balance of Terror.
Other Trek figures could've been Commodore Matt Decker from The Doomsday Machine, and Ambassador Sarek, Spock's dad.
And, Yes, I am a Trek fan. Classic Star Trek, Deep Space Nine, & Enterprise are my faves. 😁

One note, though…the Mego era is hardly the "dawn of action figures." I think you'd have to go back almost a decade earlier, to Hasbro's 12" G.I. Joe, in 1964, and the Marx 'Best of the West' western line 1965 for that, with Major Matt Mason's bendy figures in '66 (and Marx 'Rat Patrol' & 'Johnny Apollo', in '67-'68) heralding the 8-inch sized figures to come.

They had a set of 2 packs that had all the aliens I have to assume that they were very limited sales because I can't find them on eBay so obviously if they're not there for sale they must have been very rare and thus as expensive as looking for the original aliens group that was created.

It's funny how popular culture took Klingons as Federation's mainstay enemy, when Romulans have more episodes.

I never noticed that in the Mego line of Star Trek Toys, they misspelled Scotty's name as "Scottie!"

Again a range that never came to my home town. Plus I never saw them on holidays either. I knew about them but none of the toy shops had them. The many toy shops either never ordered them or couldn't get them. Not sure whether I would have picked them up even though I loved Star Trek.

I had the Enterprise, the crew , and many aliens and villains .
Unfortunately I sold them all at a Garage sale .
They'd probably be worth a mint today .

Thinking seriously about investing in these forty five year old toys. I never got them when I was younger and regretted it. I had a used Spock and McCoy and ended up selling them like a dumbass. But really would like to have the whole set. It's just the time and the money invested in it.

Have you ever heard of Dr Mego? You might want to check out his site Dr Megos Repos. You may have to look around a bit since I forgot under which heading they were, but he has the Mego Star Trek aliens carded.
