on swedish msp there was a really popular series called "When an Angel falls" (När en ängel faller). I was a series about an angel who got accused of letting monsters into heaven, so she got her wings taken away and was sent down to earth. She befriends two humans and together they try to find out who let the monsters into heaven. The show had 56 parts and got over thousands and thousands of views and I remember going to school like "Did you guys see the new episode!!". It was weird and had a very dramatic plot, I think it ended with the mc straight up murdering the one who actually let the monsters into heaven. The good ol days

i'm a long time MSP vet and here are some stories i have:
    * the first time i got VIP was when i stole my sisters paypal info
    * i was friends with pumpchkin for a few months (im p sure she cycled between her friend requests a lot, i was just lucky)
    * there was a glitch for a while that could let you wear peoples "looks" without having to buy the clothes
    * the amount of anonymous accounts that spanned over that fateful week...
    * i was friends with an MSPtuber who was completely awful. she got mad at me for replicating her outfit and made a couple of videos on me. she also claimed she got hacked a lot. shed make so many MSP accounts with full star VIP, only for that account to be "hacked" within a day. idk man

As someone who was once an "MSP UA-camr" - msp was WILD, like a lot went on not only in the game but also In the community, but nonetheless, I do not regret anytime I spent playing/creating content using the game. It's what set me up for becoming a UA-camr, so it will forever play a huge part in my life.. It's a shame that msp 2 has, well, "flopped" but unfortunately that's expected to happen with the limited updates. But I'm sure people would agree that even though the original game had it's many issues, it will still forever hold some form of a good memory.

Back then you legit couldn't do ANYTHING if you weren't VIP, because it was almost impossible to earn star coins. So the bullying based on your clothes was even more rampent. One time when she was at my house she spent hours just showing me all her clothes and stuff and trying to convince me to play it. Like 6 months later I found out from another friend who ended up at the same college as her that she'd been arrested for committing credit card fraud at work lmao which is not related but somehow it fits the vibe

this site was MASSIVE back when i was in middle school. everyone at school, including many of the boys, all had very active msp accounts. it was our main way of communicating. I think a large part of this was the fact that it was one of the only sites like this that got translated into our language, so the kids were actually able to use it despite not knowing any english.

then 2 weeks later she changed her status to "friend [new account]" and didnt respond. she did not die.

His dad came in yelling during a video chat, and after that he basically made it seem like his dad had killed him in a fit of rage, a few days later he messaged her 'from the hospital' saying he was okay but that his dad had thrown him down the stairs and he hit his head. My friend and I tried to convince him to run away cross country and she actually offered to use all her birthday cash from the last years to bus him to us.
Then a few weeks later he broke up with her, sent all her stuff back in the mail, and faked his own sewer cide. We were so screwed up for weeks until another one of our friends found his new facebook. Turns out he had been dating a new girl at home and wanted to break up but was too chicken shit to admit why.

For some reason this seems pretty common in certain internet circles. Back when I was younger and trying to make friends in cosplay social circles, I encountered 2 incidents of cosplayers “dying”. And these specific individuals had a pretty decent followings on insta. The one posted she’d been hospitalized for like medical reasons, and then made a follow up post (posing as her sibling) and relaying to people that she had passed. People figured out through checking the metadata in the geo tags in the photos she has posted, that she was not posting from a hospital. And a little bit later, a new account popped up with her face all over it. She just like killed off herself and then started a new insta? It was wild. I guess the moral of the story is that kids and young teens do some very bizarre things without thinking about the impact on those they interact with.

I used to be DEEEEEP into the "rare" trading market, and actually managed to acquire quite an impressive collection, but most of it was nullified when MSP started doing the "rare weeks" which crashed the market. 12 year old me was quite annoyed.
And I also remember when the MSP admins edited quite many items to make them less "risque". One of my favourite items as a kid was the tube top that said "Censored" (inspired by Rihannas S&M video), but at some point it was altered to say "Sweetie" instead. Quite the downgrade IMO. Every (older) fishnet and ripped item was also edited to have a purple stocking underneath so the character wouldn't be "naked" underneath, which made the items really ugly unless you changed the colour of the purple thing. Many animations were also changed to be more safe (the most violent ones being outright removed), the knife pose animation was changed to have a frying pan instead.
I have an embarassingly vast knowledge of MSP clothing items from 2012-2016, I can pretty much identify all items from that era and know from what specific theme they were. Not my proudest achievement but younger me LOVED all the different customisation possibilities on MSP.
And did anyone else try using the exploit to acquire "boy clothes" using Charles proxy (in like 2013)? I remember feeling like a cool hacker when all I was doing was viewing the HTTP traffic on my computer 😭. I had a person on my friends list who actually got it to work somehow and gave me some of the glitched items, it was pretty cool.

I used to play religiously when I was 8 to around 10! This was 2011 to 2013 so I witnessed the peak of it all, being in the USA server. Nostalgia aside I'm gonna list some things which were very prevalent:
-Fear mongering. Hackers, creepypasta content and that "Dolly" thing, all threatening to take your account, find where you live and get to you.
-E-seggs. Not even kidding. There was a lot of it, in player's houses where they would use animations for...yeah.
-Completely unmonitored communities. Given that the censorship was only available for English and that the USA and UK server had players from all around the world, people that could speak the same language could just say the most disturbing shit possible and never get banned because they didn't speak in English.
-Scamming. Given we were all children it was quite easy to get scammed. I scammed like 5+ accounts by telling other kids to switch their e-mail to mine and then I'd get their account.
-Literal Instagram for children. EVERYONE in my school used MSP, your ranking in game actually reflected your social life in school and it was crazy how we would meet up in school and talk about a game all the time.

I played a lot of MovieStar Planet when I was younger, especially in 4th grade lol. As much as there was bad, I can solidly say that it was my life saver during 4th. I can't speak for all but I feel like a large part of the MSP fanbase was either actually popular kids and then the really lonely unpopular, even bullied, kids. Falling into the later half definitely defined my experience on the game but I'm glad I had it then. Going to school only to feel lonely and separate from everyone in my school to the point of bullying then getting to go home and be who I wanted to be and talk to my friends online was amazing. It's sad to see MSP 2 flop but I'm glad to get to experience MSP when I did.

Any time in elementary when the IT teacher let us get a break we'd all log in simultaneously to grind up money, make fun of each others' fashion sense, make strange movies, or try and co-op the catwalk. I remember mostly just making movies and scrapbook posts about Dumb Ways To Die with my childhood best friend, and one time when the class bully scammed me out of a scarf so hard that me and my friends told on her to the teacher 😭 I think it's also the only website I've ever gotten close to being groomed on so the lack of moderation and safety measures was really something lmao

Ofc they never worked (and I was looking at google images sooooo…) but, I would get so much hate on it bc I wasn’t vip. Honestly it exposed me to very harsh language and made me lose trust in the game at a young age. I remember scraping real life change like pennies n shit so I could give the real life money to my dad in exchange for 5$ off his credit card. They always said no. Recently I went back and it’s a shell of what it used to be. Nobody bothers to vip anymore bc it’s all trolls. Sad, some of my best memories were made on msp.

Another thing were the movie contests, so like every month I think there would be a contest where you could submit a movie that you made which had to fit a certain theme and include some words or phrases, like say if the theme was Halloween, your movie should feature the word pumpkin or stuff like that and in the earlier years the movies you submitted HAD to be in english, though after a while they changed that, and like,,,,,,,I get that most people were in elementary or middle school (me included) but some of the english was just soooo bad :'')

this game, though with its many faults, was truly one of the biggest parts of my childhood. i played it at its peak and i still have many fond memories of my time on it. the corny music videos, the yearning for vip, the constant drama between highscorers and the concerning amount of edating. crazy. i used to desperately want to be a "famous" movie star and would grind just to get 5 meek views on a short film, beg people for autographs, and spend hours farming staircoins by petting pets just to spend it on a terrible outfit 5 minutes later. again, crazy. there was so much drama too? i remember always being interested in the supposed rivalry between pump and mybeau and how everyone kinda chose a side (my choice was obviously mybeau. i once made a whole artbook discussing why pump was the devil because she didnt accept every single friend request or let lower leveled people onto her team LMAOO) and then there were hacker hunters, well-known youtubers, those extremely dramatic and inappropriate msp series that were shockingly well made.. moviestarplent truly was a different breed
i had many MANY msp eras other than this, but probably the most memorable was when i was one of the editor types, and i can tell you that that community within itself is absolutely insane and way more than just corny couple edits. i got into it through a youtube tutorial on editing and it all went downhill from there. people would and still will formulate whole unique characters with traumatizing backstories and fully developed families. from glorified murderers to cheating spouses and somehow dying and being brought back to life, we really had it all with our big ass imaginations, and we took it way too seriously lol. i would spend hours upon hours editing an avatar into a character just to post it on instagram to progress their storyline further. the community isnt that great overall but it actually was beneficial for me creatively, and im so thankful that i had an outlet like it for so many years though i quit for good a few months back.
i still visit msp from time to time and i can confirm that its just as it was a few years ago. a part of me even hopes it becomes one of those older games that rises in popularity again in the next coming years? thatd definitely be fun

I grew up in Denmark and was a young tween in the early/mid 2010's, so I was pretty much the target demographic for msp. Let me tell you about some things I remember
    - Msp would censor words like 'number' in order to prevent e-dating. Msp players could easily get around it by typing it with a space in between each letter like 'can i get your n u m b e r?'
    - Bullying, trolls and comments/chats of sexual nature were sadly common.
    - I'm too young to remember msp being an educational website. In my time, it was just treated as another social media game.
    - Since this was the same era as the 'lyric videos' for popular songs, Msp lyric videos for songs popular in Denmark were commonplace, not only on msp but on youtube as well.
    - Creating a 'burner account' of a person of the opposite gender and trying to e-date and prank people was very common
    - Kids created slang around msp like asking 'what's the name of your moviestar?' or 'see you on movie' when saying goodbye after school.

I’ve always been shy, online and in real life, so I never really got many friends or talked in the chatrooms or forums. But there was this feature where you could watch actual UA-cam videos through msp. Not the movies people make, but actual UA-cam videos. it’s interesting how a lot of games like maplestory, animal jam, and MSP were used so often to make videos and mvs. i guess it has something to do with the range of character customization? (and msp was made for video making) i remember watching a bunch of videos like this when i was younger- even if kids aren’t the best at editing or storywriting it’s nice to see how earnest these videos were. people make fun of gacha life kids but it’s basically just a redux of what happened on yothbe during the 2010s, albeit more centered on fandom than before.

The MSP community around 2015-2018 was easily my wildest online experience. From being friends with multiple "big" MSP youtubers like Raylen and PsychoticJulia, hearing about insane behind the scenes racism homophobia and harassment to having my friends threatened with a lawsuit by arguably the largest MSP youtuber at the time PrincessGames' uncle also being a small part of the "large" livestreams where many members of the community raised money to donate to the British Red Cross for the aftermath of the Ariana Grande bombing which hit close to home as one of our own community members (UK High Scorer Roxy-1) was at that concert which he luckily survived and was uninjured.
My time involved in the MSP community was definitely toxic and back then I was a way worse version of myself that I'm definitely not proud of now but it's something I'll always look back on fondly. Being part of the community I honestly had such a fun time, it felt like everyone knew everyone and I met so many long term friends because of a silly little flash game that was already past it's peak. As a "veteran player" I have literally been waiting so long for this video!! Some of the things that get overlooked a lot is the MSP to IMVU pipeline, msp twitter and the msp UA-camrs. The msp UA-camrs who I remember being really big would get tons of free gifts and also do mail time videos, basically opening the free gifts they got from fans (ItsIssie) was probably the most popular in the US and the UK. Then the msp twitter scene was crazy, all the drama and the amount of accounts that people made. Msp twitter in it's prime was another level of crazy. Then the msp to IMVU pipeline was something that a lot of my msp friends and I did mainly because msp was starting to feel too young. Many of my friends and even "famous people" made IMVU accounts to try and migrate over which is why I think IMVU had a spike in numbers for a bit. But I totally dressed up as Dolly and tried to make it look like I got hacked!

I don't usually comment on videos but the nostalgia in this one hit like a truck! I used MSP religiously from 2011-2013/14ish! I remember I used to write stories on the old forums and this one I wrote used to be really popular! It's actually what got me into writing.. which led me to Wattpad but I digress. I used to LOVE the movie feature omg I made so many movies, even adaptations based on my stories. I also got into roleplaying on the old forums where I met a group of friends which is why I liked it so much. We used to have so much fun doing hunger game roleplays and high school ones! One of the friends I met on there when I was 12 actually grew up with me long distance. We followed each other on IG and were super close and literally watched each other grow up and graduate high school. I miss him :( lol I also remember being a brat and hating Pump, probably out of jealously but I was literally 11/12 at the time so. Also, does anyone remember that time of chaos when they updated the forums to how it looks now? Omg we were all so mad, it completely ruined the format we all liked. I remember going onto other countries servers that hadn't updated yet to use theirs lol and then when it was inevitable everyone switched to this forum outside the website but I think you needed an invite and it died quickly. My enjoyment of the game ended as all the platform started dying around 2013, or at least it seemed to be for me. All my friends left except three of us and we moved to kik and IG together. I know I just rambled into the void but wow the nostalgia I needed to get it out😭

I played almost all the islands out at the time and tried to log in later and they deleted old accounts 😭😭😭

Loved it. It was big at my elementary school in the 2000s. Kids would log on secretly during time in the computer lab when we were were supposed to be doing certain projects. I visited it here and there as I got a bit older, as well. I used to love the references to movies and tv shows and that I could click on an NPC and just wear that NPC's outfit if I wanted to.

i remember joining around 2016, and being obsessed with this game. i somehow ended up being a "highscore" on the server i was on (dont ask me how because i still dont know), and became pretty popular. i ended up quitting at around level 53, because i got bored. there was so much drama on that sever alone, that im pretty sure i have trauma from it. from threatening to leak addresses, to death threats, to so much more, msp had it ALL.
my server also had this one girl who claimed to have cancer, was going blind, and lost her bf in a motor cycle accident, and she turned out to be a 40 yr old woman with a husband and daughter... yikes.
it was a whole ass trip, but i do not regret playing because even the drama could be fun sometimes.
if anybody is curious, My server was the NZ sever (despite not being from nz at all). id share my username but idk if i want y'all to see that...
