And what can life be worth if the first rehearsal for life is life itself?

He was influenced by Robert Musil and Nietzsche. At least, unlike Musil, Milan Kundera was a talented writer. There is nothing unique about the influence of Nietzsche (all the major writers of 20th century were influenced by him). I have only read his Unbearable Lightness of Being, along with his essay on the composer Iannis Xenakis so far. I may seek out more of his works.

👡👞👠 I read Milan Kundera's book "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" then saw the movie, hoping that it would enlighten the meaning of life in some way like the unique title. But, unfortunately, actual plot lines were thin, pedestrian and boring, more commonplace than transcendent. I didn't think it deserved all the international accolades and seemed rather arty and pretentious. To me, it remains the perfect example of how a great title can sell a book and convince you that it's deeper and more meaningful than it actually is. Maybe kinda like the author...

You really need to reread it, or try some of his other books. That or look up what “pretentious” means again, as he was anything but.
