We had a ref in highschool that found himself between a monster tackle on the sidelines. I'm not sure exactly how bad he was hurt but he was carted off. We felt bad for him. Tough job for sure.

You would have QBs chucking it at refs to avoid a sack, RBs making contact to avoid a loss, or DBs intentionally tripping over a ref when they get burned. I don't think you want to create any incentive to physically contact a ref.

David Erickson No, it’s pretty obviously when there is referee interference or not. If anyone of those aforementioned scenarios happened, it wouldn’t have any effect on the play. If a QB about to get sacked throws a ball at a ref, you can rule it as intentional grounding or claim it as a sack from the spot where he threw the ball. Simple
So this is why ea madden 20 took out the refs form being on the field
