Barnacles are tough creatures and they don’t let go easily. Trying to remove them, especially on areas of soft tissue can be very painful and damage the turtle. Turtle’s can survive in fresh water for several days whereas those tough barnacles don’t do so well. They either fall off by themselves or are otherwise very easy to scrape off.-Local Earth Conservancy

This turtle was bathed in freshwater for 24hrs prior to removal, but sometimes they still need a little bit of prising off as they're very large. Neither his shell nor him was hurt by the removal process.

All living beings are part of a chain and serve a purpose in nature and no creature is at fault for how they operate or how they survive. We are all one and the same at the end of the day 💚

Barnacles are kinda amazing creatures to be honest, they even kinda help clean out the ocean, the only problem they may have with turtles is that they may slow it down and impede movements, as much as they can do to boats, a turtle having just 1 barnacle on its carapace has no factual problem, a turtle having 347 barnacles on its shell has a problem. They do not damage turtle shells, why would they kill and damage the one being that facilitates their life.
You can even keep barnacles in an aquarium possibly, but you need to have special filters and whatnot.

They are even finding barnacles attached to trees close to water. The one thing I hate is to see a whale or other animal over run by them.

I’ve never seen so much growth on a sea turtle. Besides barnacles, was some of that coral? Thank you for saving the young turtle. God bless you.❤️🙏🏻

I think this video is informative and I like that we can trust the source. I wish you went one step further and clarified (in the video) that regular folks shouldn't aggressively pry barnacles off turtles and then just drop them back in the sea. As I understand it, that's really dangerous for the turtles as it can lead to further damage and infections. Right now, there are a lot of people rehashing and compiling videos of others removing barnacles and I worry that it makes it seem like a great idea. I'd love to be able to throw a link to videos (like this one) on those pages to help spread awareness (and to clarify any misconceptions that might be out there). Thanks!

On another channel it was explained that if a turtle is completely covered in barnacles it typically indicates they have other health problems already. So even though it can cause problems chances are they were going to die shortly soon anyway. Thankfully there are safe ways to remove the barnacles so you can actually help them without harm.
