I'm not understanding the government's drive to build more hospitals when they're NOT servicing, maintaining and transforming those they already have. I'm not for one moment against more hospitals but make this make sense for me! How many more of our family and friends will have to die before the govt,. comes to the rescue of the poorer class?
I guess aesthetics are more important to the government than actually taking care of people. Everyone sees the shiny new buildings and highways, and they are lulled into a false sense of achievement because they think that progress is being made. Meanwhile, the health sector is in shambles, the water situation is untenable, roads in rural communities are little more than tracks. But yes, build more hospitals that cater to medical tourism and ignore the Jamaican populace…🙄

Im proud to see a peaceful protest and my people are voicing very legitimate concerns. My sincerest condolences to you all. Washy is my distant cousin as well . As a member of the diaspora I think the change needed has to be the responsibility of us all. As my batch mate Hubert said it is the only hospital in St Thomas to serve the community it is needed and a collective effort needs to be made with the government and many of us who live overseas can also form a coalition and raise funds to help in getting equipment and much needed supplies. He keeps suggesting that Mr. Bryan should have been shown special treatment because he was a government official and he was friends with the hospital chairman. That's not the message that should be delivered, we want fair and impartial treatment for every single patient that enters this hospital. The last time I went there which was last week with my mother-in-law, most of the nurses and doctors there were Cubans, some of them barely able to speak English, so I doubt they are playing politics. They are probably demotivated because the facility is run down and in need of new equipment. In addition, the last compensation review by the government wasn't very encouraging, so many factors are at play here.

There is also no facility for physiotherapy treatment. Yet patients who requires this treatment are referred to the physiotherapist at this institution.

Good afternoon. I few years ago when I was in Lower York visiting my Mother my husband took sick and we had to take him to this hospital my GOD the treatment was horrible. By the time he got admitted in the hospital god knows how long that took. So anyway the next day while he was in the ward he was having trouble with his drip he tried to get the nurse attention who was just sitting a few feet away from him when she a decided to answer him she said could he not see that she was talking to her friend who had come to see her and she has the right to SOCIALISE. My husband asked her if he was in a HOSPITAL or CLUB she just looked at him and KISSED and took another 10mins to attend to him and in all this time his drip was leaking my god the attitude the nurses have is they think they are doing you a favour. I thing for sure if this was to happen again I will DEFINITELY not be going to this HOSPITAL It must be down to the MANAGEMENT and where is the MINISTER SHE hiding again. It's sad but it's true I am almost 28 years old , I was born , grow and live in ST Thomas all my life , and if I get sick I rather die on my way going to kingston rather than go to princess Margaret hospital. I have never been to that hospital 5 times in all my life, and I have been sick more than that. I don't even take my son there .

Princess Morgue Hospital....My Sister and My Bredren Son Died at PMH due to Lack of Care. I was unprofessionally dealt with there about 2 Days before Washie. However, since I knew my rights, I was able to bluntly redirect the two unprofessional Doctors - thw2y claimed they were following the strict instructions of their Superior Dr. as to the approach of their Triage System.
What the…!! A pulmonary embolism is AN EMERGENCY!! My daughter’s friend was going to Nigeria with her aunt. Due to the long flight, the aunt developed a blood clot in her leg which broke off and caused a pulmonary embolism. By the time the plane landed in Lagos, she was dead.

I don’t propose to know anything about what goes on in Jamaica in general, and St. Thomas in particular, having left Jamaica decades ago. But to conflate the cost of the fireworks display with the cost of medical machinery/ambulance, is unfair, unnecessary and nonsensical. How much did the fireworks cost? Do you really think it comes close to the cost of medical equipment or an ambulance? An ambulance costs at least US$125,000 A CT scanner costs at least US$300,000 An MRI machine costs about US$500,000.

I was unprofessionally dealt with there about 2 Days before Washie. However, since I knew my rights, I was able to bluntly redirect the two unprofessional Doctors - thw2y claimed they were following the strict instructions of their Superior Dr. as to the approach of their Triage System.

Thank you I have watched on numerous occasions where the former minister of health cut rebbions at St Ann hospital for kidney dialysis machines ecg machines and never st Thomas that made him the 7 star general people have been mistreated by some of the doc and nurses bule uniform porters because of poor status and not having a family member out at the hospital to render assistance so all of a sudden they breathing down someone's neck for generational mistreatment for years it had to take someone with money and political status to come protest kmdt me k it mek sense

People are entitled to an active social life. The people needed the fireworks and the arm of Government that did the fireworks and erected the clock in the town is different from who is responsible for ensuring proper health care. I don’t propose to know anything about what goes on in Jamaica in general, and St. Thomas in particular, having left Jamaica decades ago.
But to conflate the cost of the fireworks display with the cost of medical machinery/ambulance, is unfair, unnecessary and nonsensical.
How much did the fireworks cost? Do you really think it comes close to the cost of medical equipment or an ambulance?

A CT scanner costs at least US$300,000
An MRI machine costs about US$500,000.
