As much style as possible, and as little substance as they can get away with.

I think Ryan Drummond does a lot in that line to sell it, though- his tone's still upbeat and hopeful, but he's also got this melancholic undertone. I think it's pretty nicely done.

A thing I notice is that the speed characters seem more relaxed, the power characters seem more focused on the mission and getting the job done, and the flight characters are more curious. Of course, everyone has their own charm and personality.
It is nice when the idledialogue is better written than the story of the game...you know, in the gameseries where going idle is not intended most of the time. I wonder how much of this is properly translated. Because for some reason, Sonic always had major localisationissues outside of the 2010s. Anyways, compilation of all references that are not instantly obvious: - 0:24 Knuckles grew up around the Master Emerald-shrine, very connected to nature. Of course he would dislike a purely artificial location. - 0:29 While Sonic likes nature, he also likes cool looking modern places where he can go fast in. - 0:32 Tails dislikes loud noises, especially if they are sudden like earthquakes or striking thunder. Pollution is likely a reference towards Eggman's factories during the classic games. - 1:01 Knuckles likes dark and calm places and dislikes harsh brightness. A place that is this bright even without the sun being up has to be the bane of his existance, and it gets to the poor guy at 1:17. - 2:35 He is getting scared by ghosts and this is his third time getting ambushed by them. The first time was in sandopolis in Sonic3&Knux and the second time was in death chamber in Sonic Adventure2. He also had some unpleasent encounters with them in pumpkin hill and aquatic mine. - 4:02 Opposite to Knuckles, Shadow is more used to purely artificial places. - 5:24 This has the biggest chance to be a mistranslation in my eyes, because it really doesn't make sense. But I guess this is a weird moment of forshadowing for the next game in the series. Kinda reminds me of how one NPC in SA1 seems to mistake Gamma for an agent, weirdly connecting to GUN(?) - 8:16 and 9:50 Amy has special abilities due to being an esper. Later in unleashed, her sensing people is expanded to be the explanation for her mistaking people for Sonic.(Shadow likely has a similar aura to Sonic and Sonic really was in the general location when the same happens with Silver two games after this one) - 8:37 and 9:44 Sonic Adventure made it a plotpoint that Big can track froggy, through....his smell. Which is very weird, but it is a thing, so....yeah. - 9:15 I have no real idea what this is referencing. It could either be the spooky mirrorcastle from twinkle park or the time when her and team hero were in a zone with gravity-mechanics in Advance1. I am honestly kinda sad that there are no Knuckles Chaotix-references in here with team chaotix, but I fully understand why. They wanted to redefine these three and there was little room to put references as a whole. There is barely anything to reference too, except maybe the other playable characters of that game.(I actually still wonder what happened to mighty to be entirely honest) Also as an aside regarding that, Charmy's response to the name "Eggman" is not nessesarily a part of their softreboot. In the japanese version, it comes of to me like he just forgot because he is very young and the series seems to treat the classics like they were a few years before the dreamcast-era. Wow, this is AWESOME!! It's like finding that secret area of a video game you've played for years and know like the back of your hand. I love these characters so much, so hearing these lines for the first time is insane. I always knew they had idle voice clips, but I didn't know they had THIS many. My favorite's got to be Shadow's "Sonic...why does that name..BOTHER me so much??" That's GREAT, man, such a shame the new games can't get anywhere near this character quality.
Yeah. Sonic and Rouge are rarely seen interacting, but their love of freedom is definitely something they have common ground in. Sure, they express it in vastly different ways, but they both are 'untamed' in their own right.

Sonic Heroes (2003): Gives every character multiple idle animations and quotes
Sonic Forces (2017): We don't do that here.

A thing I notice is that the speed characters seem more relaxed, the power characters seem more focused on the mission and getting the job done, and the flight characters are more curious. Of course, everyone has their own charm and personality.

It is nice when the idledialogue is better written than the story of the game...you know, in the gameseries where going idle is not intended most of the time. I wonder how much of this is properly translated. Because for some reason, Sonic always had major localisationissues outside of the 2010s.
Anyways, compilation of all references that are not instantly obvious:
- 0:24 Knuckles grew up around the Master Emerald-shrine, very connected to nature. Of course he would dislike a purely artificial location.
- 0:29 While Sonic likes nature, he also likes cool looking modern places where he can go fast in.
- 0:32 Tails dislikes loud noises, especially if they are sudden like earthquakes or striking thunder. Pollution is likely a reference towards Eggman's factories during the classic games.
- 1:01 Knuckles likes dark and calm places and dislikes harsh brightness. A place that is this bright even without the sun being up has to be the bane of his existance, and it gets to the poor guy at 1:17.
- 2:35 He is getting scared by ghosts and this is his third time getting ambushed by them. The first time was in sandopolis in Sonic3&Knux and the second time was in death chamber in Sonic Adventure2. He also had some unpleasent encounters with them in pumpkin hill and aquatic mine.
- 4:02 Opposite to Knuckles, Shadow is more used to purely artificial places.
- 5:24 This has the biggest chance to be a mistranslation in my eyes, because it really doesn't make sense. But I guess this is a weird moment of forshadowing for the next game in the series. Kinda reminds me of how one NPC in SA1 seems to mistake Gamma for an agent, weirdly connecting to GUN(?)
- 8:16 and 9:50 Amy has special abilities due to being an esper. Later in unleashed, her sensing people is expanded to be the explanation for her mistaking people for Sonic.(Shadow likely has a similar aura to Sonic and Sonic really was in the general location when the same happens with Silver two games after this one)
- 8:37 and 9:44 Sonic Adventure made it a plotpoint that Big can track froggy, through....his smell. Which is very weird, but it is a thing, so....yeah.
- 9:15 I have no real idea what this is referencing. It could either be the spooky mirrorcastle from twinkle park or the time when her and team hero were in a zone with gravity-mechanics in Advance1.
I am honestly kinda sad that there are no Knuckles Chaotix-references in here with team chaotix, but I fully understand why. They wanted to redefine these three and there was little room to put references as a whole. There is barely anything to reference too, except maybe the other playable characters of that game.(I actually still wonder what happened to mighty to be entirely honest) Also as an aside regarding that, Charmy's response to the name "Eggman" is not nessesarily a part of their softreboot. In the japanese version, it comes of to me like he just forgot because he is very young and the series seems to treat the classics like they were a few years before the dreamcast-era. How old is Charmy again? *looks it up* Jeez, he is 6 during heroes. xD

This is kinda amazing. All these years, I didn't even know this game *had* idle dialogue. In a series where you're constantly on the move and getting levels done as fast as you can, why would you ever choose to sit still, let alone sit still long enough to get unique lines of dialogue to play?

Wow, this is AWESOME!! It's like finding that secret area of a video game you've played for years and know like the back of your hand. I love these characters so much, so hearing these lines for the first time is insane. I always knew they had idle voice clips, but I didn't know they had THIS many. My favorite's got to be Shadow's "Sonic...why does that name..BOTHER me so much??" That's GREAT, man, such a shame the new games can't get anywhere near this character quality.
