    Fair enough some of you saying the book changed your opinion on Noel the only reason this very average if even average drummer was able to write a book or is even known is because of Noel fucking Gallagher. Taking Noel on face value hearing interviews with him on radio television as well as articles about him he's a fucking top bloke so if the book made you change your opinion because a slightly resentful drummer who it is known didn't get on with Noel its you who are the wankers. This must be bullshit. No way Beckham had a Ferrari in 1993. He was only 17/18 years old and was still in the youth/reserve side and hadn't yet played for the first team.

    • @Two_Seat_Pete_FatA55
      @Two_Seat_Pete_FatA55 7 років тому +2

      ***** Nah, not back then, he was still on the youth wages and had yet moved onto pro wages actually. Also, Ferguson with very strict with the young players that had come through his youth system and basically banned them from flashy lifestyles, expensive cars and partying etc..until they had proved themselves. I doubt any Man Utd player was driving a Ferrari, especially any 17 or 18 year old. It was different then. Anyway, his first car was this,bought in 1994. and after this, he bought a Ford Escort from Ryan Giggs ;)

We don't say "Michael Angelo was a moody prick so that makes him a worse artist." we just know he was a great, genius level artist. If someone said what's he like to have a cuppa tea with then we can say "A fucking moody twat, tbh, Da Vinci was far better company"

      It's all cos of that goddamn collapse drum fill at the end of "Don't look back in anger" Tony just wouldn't get right and Noel thought "That's it I'm replacing the guy" and being lucky he'd then get famous Steve White's brother Alan.
      But Tony's still - if not techically better -much more fittin' to Oasis then the ones came after Alan.

    Ringo Starr has never been a fantastic technical drummer. Neither was Nick Mason. But their styles were perfect for the music of The Beatles and Pink Floyd. Both had tremendous feel for the right sound for the song. Same with Tony in the early days of Oasis, he was vital to the sound and drummed on what most people consider their best album. Can't knock him for that, and Noel is out of order for doing so in the past.

He just looked like he was always driving the music along in a cool way. I was really disappointed when he was replaced. hey ronnie, i dont disagree with you but, noel and even other members of O have said several times that they knew they werent good musicians (ng has said several times they sucked, albeit jokingly). my reading of that is they didnt need to be - they just had to be good oasis musicians. they didnt need to be the best musicians, they needed to be the best band - and they were imo. mccarroll got booted because he wasnt a good oasis member. and whitey was (my opinion) more suited for them. i cant speak to their live show because i never got to see them live. actually my last chance to have seen them was at Vfest in toronto (with paul weller), i honestly couldnt afford tickets to that it was really pricey, oasis and weller were the only ones i was interested in seeing. Id already seen Weller about 6 times. i wish id swallowed the price and just gone. that was the show noel got attacked on stage and they broke soon after. good comment otherwise ronnie

    Tony McCarroll was the drummer in the best Oasis album. Actually, the band never again had such a powerful backbeat as they did in that album. Granted, he probably couldn't have played on Wonderwall or Don't Look back in anger, but the drumming on Definitely Maybe is magnificent. Listen to Live Forever. Amazing tone, amazing groove.

    • @grantmalone
      @grantmalone 7 років тому +4

      Disagree about Don't Look Back In Anger. I really can't imagine Tony nailing the entry and fills for a start which need some room to breathe. Listen to his entries into Up In The Sky, Slide Away. Pretty clumsy. Once he gets into the straight ahead rock songs he's great but his bits around the edges are pretty bad.
      I'd also say that What's The Story in general benefitted from Alan's touch for the lighter more Beatlesy whimsical sound on She's Electric, Cast No Shadow etc. but I agree that I miss Tony on later songs that needed his energy and where Alan made them drag.

    • @ferabra8939
      @ferabra8939 7 років тому +4

      Tony could have played on Don't Look Back in Anger, only so much simpler fills. Tony didn't play ghost notes, it was all sheer volume, no subtleties. Alan was all subtleties, ghost notes, and increasingly complex fills, which had its place on Morning Glory. Technically Alan was much better, but Tony was perfect for Definitely Maybe.
      I agree that She's Electric, Cast No Shadow, and even Champagne Supernova required more Alan's skills. Even rock numbers such as Hello benefit a lot from his fills.

    Oasis is Liam and Noel....the end......anyone else in the band whether it be drummer or a guitar player is ltimatly irrelevant as Noel and Liam are the sound and characters of oasis plus whatever Noel and Liam what the sound to be at any given point they will just get different people in to suit their needs musically and socially...meaning if they like the bloke or not.

    Tony was perfect for Definitely Maybe. Alan was great up until he left. I think they made some good tunes after SOTSOG, but from that DM to that one, they were one of the best bands ever. As a very late fan that's watched every video you can find on here, listened to their albums heavily, and saw Supersonic, I think the band was the best from 94-00. Absolutely mega.

    Tony over-played his hand in this book. The stories of the early days and the formation of the band were really interesting and a brilliant insight, but he went too far with the Noel bashing. Sure Noel deserved a decent public kick in the arse for his poor treatment, but the way Tony went on and on and fucking on about Noel, combined with the constant shameless plugging of the "Realies" (of whom he is now a member) just smacked of sour-grapes. By the end of the book I was like "I can see why he sacked ya', you whinging little cunt".
    Tony had a real opportunity to tell those old stories to give us some laughs, air-out a few home-truths about the sacking, and generally sign-off with dignity and the support of the fan-base. I reckon it just went too far passed this and ended up in the pathetic.

    Everyone saying that Tony couldn’t play on Wonderwall. That’s not true. First of all, he would have played it differently, secondly, they could have gotten a drum coach to help him in the studio. Wonderwall would sound good with me playing the drums because it’s a great song. Let’s face it, who listens to the drums other than Drummer’s? If the beat is solid and the song is good that’s all you need. Nobody gives a fuck about your fancy ghost notes and Fills. Only drummers do and most drummers would say Ringo sucks so there you go.

  • @vacuumboots69
    @vacuumboots69 9 років тому +32

    Anyone who says Noel made a bad move replacing Tony is a little mistaken. Tony wasn't technical enough to drum on 'Bring it down' he struggled with it, but did it in the end. There is no way he could have drummed on WTSMG especially songs like Wonderwall (harder to drum than you think with the rhythm and a fancy part in a couple places). He would have then be unable to drum on the big stages like Knebworth. Oasis needed to get in Alan White, but in doing so they lost that spark that Tony brought with his drumming (that made them the 5 lads that they were). The changes needed to be made, but ultimately the band was done by 97' as a World beater anyway.
    Respect to Tony Mac, he can drum in my band anyday!

    Oasis: The Truth! Tony McCarroll was one of five reasons Oasis became the huge phenomenom everyone remembers. Simple as that. What gives me the shits nowadays is that the major egotist Noel Gallagher does'nt realise he would'nt be anyone today if it was'nt for Definatly Maybe. Once the best debut of all time was released everything that followed was hype including one of the most overated albums of all time, wtsmg( bar supernova). Once he sacked McCarroll the magic was gone forever! TM = Legend
