Fun fact: The ring you see Onew wearing in his "Beat Drum" MV I think is actually his SHINee friendship ring. During SHINee's 16th anniversary activities the SHINee members revealed they have been talking about getting a friendship ring for a while now, and they just recently made it official. (Inspired by groups like RIIZE and Seventeen, etc. who have group rings.) All 5 SHINee members now have rings, Jonghyun's was given to his sister. Onew fully admitted even before they purchased their rings that he would probably never take his ring off -- that's how important SHINee's bond is to him -- Key said he would wear it in public on special occasions (If you know Key, that's totally on brand for him), Minho will probably wear it whenever he's not acting and Taemin fully warned everyone -- that because of his "magic hands" and his propensity for always losing everything -- that he will try to wear his ring as much as possible, but he will probably end up losing it. LOL. (So far Taemin still has his ring and you can even see him wearing it during his solo promotions.)
Yes, all the members are "married to SHINee" and they have all made it very clear that no matter what they do that SHINee as a group is the most important thing to them. ;P (Just like Chen, Baekhyun, Xiumin and D.O. from EXO or Kyuhyun, Eunhyuk and Donghae from Super Junior, just because they have chosen to move their solo activities to other companies/establish their own companies, doesn't mean they have left SM or their group.) Taemin has mentioned that SHINee is currently in the process of planning their next album and comeback, which is all part of SM.
As Es mentioned, "Beat Drum" is Onew's first comeback under Griffin Entertainment as a solo artist, but it's the lead track on his 5th solo album Flow, overall. He had his official solo debut in 2018 with his song "Blue" on his Voice album. Then after returning from the military he released his title track "Dice" MV on his Dice album, then that same year his first solo Japanese album Life Goes On and last year he released his "O (Circle)" MV on his Circle album. Plus, he has several solo singles as well under SM starting way back in 2016.
Of course, Onew is an amazing singer and performer. That's why the members of SHINee are some of the most well-respected singers and artists, and why they are one of the top groups in the industry. :D SHINee are the golden standard. It's literally known as the SHINee standard, and it's what all other groups strive to reach. SHINee are such an elite group of performers that they are recognized for the fact that there are no longer any fixed roles in their group. The main vocalists can rap, the rappers can fill in as main vocalists and they're all impressive dancers.
Onew is considered one of the premiere vocalists in the industry, who is known for being the male vocalist with the most consistent voice. He is one of the vocalists that vocal coaches use as an example of what people should try to emulate in order to become a great singer. He has been recognized as one of the top vocalists in Kpop since even before debut. Onew was only one of two people ever personally cast by Lee SooMan, the founder of SM Entertainment, and he was chosen at age 16/17 for his outstanding vocal ability. Onew's vocal technique is so good that even as a rookie -- he debuted when he was just 18 years old -- he was a vocal coach and mentor to a lot of trainees, including some of the members of EXO.
SHINee were designed to be SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, so everything they do -- including the members' solo work -- is meant to be the first, and they are expected to create the trend. With every new song the SHINee members release, it's supposed to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from Onew. But it will somehow always sound very much like Onew.
With every release that the SHINee members have, they intentionally flip the script and change things up in the Kpop industry. That's why, when any of the members of SHINee make a comeback, everyone pays attention because they are looking to the members of SHINee to show them what the industry's next song style and dance trend will be. When the SHINee members do something, the industry takes note and follows suit.
Kay, just wait until you see and hear Onew perform "Beat Drum" live. As you may remember, SHINee have been nicknamed CD-INee or CD-eaters because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. The SHINee members always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing, so they avoid it at all costs. Therefore, when you hear any of the members of SHINee singing, 95% of the time it will be live. It's a running joke between the fans and the members that when SHINee lip syncs you can tell because it's very obvious. In other words, unless Onew is required to lip sync for a specific reason, he will always sing live. He has trained his entire career to build endurance and stamina in order to be able to sing live and maintain stable vocals all while performing extremely complex choreography for more than 3 hours straight in concert. That's why Onew -- and SHINee -- is so highly respected among his peers.

Aww, I remember reading about the friendship rings, gotta go back to take a look at it! I seem to have a habit of stanning strong vocalist groups that are not good at lipsyncing, looking at Mamamoo also!
