In the 70s there was a lot of focus on South America and the hardships people there went through with fascist regimes and the poverty that followed. In Sweden (where ABBA is from, as am I), South America became the posterchild for human suffering and injustice. These days it's the MidEast and Africa. So singing "Chiquitita" can be addressing a little girl in Spanish, but it can also be addressing an entire Spanish speaking nation in duress and hardship, telling them that the sorrow won't last forever and that there will be a better tomorrow.
More ABBA please, Fernando, mama Mia, Waterloo, when i kissed the teacher, money money, happy new year, so many hits, greetings from Abba country Sweden
One of their very best songs, which could be said for almost any of their songs 😂 they are just that good. Perfect instrumentation, perfect vocals and great songwriting. Agnetha and Annifrid singing in harmony, creating the legendary "third voice"
I am a late convert to ABBA. In the 70's I was a rocker. Pop was beneath me. But I like you have discovered the beauty of ABBA's work. Many refer to ABBA's harmonies as their third voice. Both women are highly skilled but Agnetha in particular is impressive. She can belt in operatic frequencies and her breath control is amazing. Check out "The Winner Takes It All". In ABBA your have 4 members; Agnetha (blonde) "A", Bjorn (guitar) "B", Benny (piano) "B", and Ani-Frid (Frida (auburn)) "A". The men would compose the music, Bjorn would write the lyrics, the music would be recorded in studio, the ladies would come into the studio and record the backing track, then the women would return to record the main vocals and lead. ABBA were two couples; Agnetha / Bjorn, and Ani-Frid / Benny. Both couples divorced in the late seventies /early eighties, but they continued working together until 1982. Then they came back together in 2021 to record again. ABBA had more than 10 worldwide hits in less than 10 years. Agnetha and Ani-Frid both had solo careers before and after ABBA. The men produced a couple of Broadway plays. Most notably "Mama Mia", which later became the movie starring Meryl Streep.
Should also be mentioned that (quite miraculously, and coming from nowhere) ABBA released another album in late 2021. After 40 years. They ladies definitely sound older, but to many the magic is still there. They went for total 70s retro sound.
a separate comment, to answer your questions 1) ABBA sing their own songs, composed by guitarist Björn and pianist Benny (except for a couple of songs composed by blonde singer Agnetha) 2) You heard the final piano solo on TikTok, performed by the pianist Benny, because it was a worldwide trend due to the return of ABBA after 40 years with two new songs (finally and enter full album, and a new virtual concert in London UK since May 2022)
Yes, this song is written for charity to UNICEF, all money are going there. It has been a huge success over the years. A worldhit - the Spanish version was for example number 1 in Mexico in 32 weeks! 😮 They where singing in 5 languages 😮 Wonderful you love them - all members are huge talants! Why not SOS and/or I’ve been waiting for you LIVE from the Australia-tour 1977? Brilliant and no autotune. I will follow your ABBA-research as long as you will go on.❣️
One thing I've always loved about ABBA is the fact that none of their songs sound alike. They are all unique and have their own vibe. So many popular groups had to fight hard to not produce cookie cutter songs, all cut from some formulaic mold that someone somewhere decided would work. ABBA definitely achieved that independence from the "formula".
ABBA was formed by two married couples from Sweden, and the wrote all their songs, they sang in different languages as well, they were a worldwide smash ...Please have a reaction on "I Had a Dream" by them.
Hi, Pink(?) Never go wrong with ABBA👑 The voices, the harmonies, the instrumentation, the lyrics, songs of different styles, the OUTFITS, the hair styles, even some choreography... ABBA has it all 👌 please more🙏 Greetings❤ from Chile 🇨🇱👍
Abba was so popular in Europe and Australia. I never knew why they were not popular in America back in the 70s and early 80’s. One thing to notice is the wonderful diction. You can understand everything they sing. And Frida and Agnetha always sung in harmony. No screaming matches trying to outdo each other like many singers today. The two voices, Agnetha a little higher than Frida’s , blended so well.
I think your memory of them not being popular in the USA during that time period is incorrect, this is also verifiable on the US Billboard Top 100 and they had 20 songs that reached the Top 10 in this country.
ABBA's the best. The two guy's wrote the songs and their wives sang most of them. Their Swedish and are huge worldwide. They wrote and put a perfect ABBA spin on about every genre of music. Both girls are top notch vocalist and took turns taking the lead on different songs. They perfected their harmonies ( It's known as their third voice) and could fall into them at the drop of a hat. I'd recomend you do one with Anni-Frid taking the lead next. "Fernando" was a huge hit with her in the lead. Thanks and welcome to the world of ABBA.
Great song from a great group and great reaction. One of my favorite ABBA songs. The two men Benny the pianist and Bjorn the guitarist wrote all their songs and could play most any instrument. Their wives Agnetha and Ani-Frid aka Frida or Annie sang them. Nobody harmonizes like Frida (auburn hair) and Agnetha (blonde girl) nobody. Please do Fernando next where Frida sings mostly lead. It will be Another great harmony experience. Take care

It remains my absolute favourite track. It’s about true support and friendship between women and gives hope for us all. Another interesting perspective is that because it’s about ‘a little girl ‘ and released for the UNICEF international year of the child that it could be from a parent to their child after a death or divorce. ABBA ( Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny, Anni-Frid “ Frida “) is a band from Sweden who were initially active from 1972-1982. The Name comes from the 4 members initials. They were 2 married couples but both marriages ended in divorce in the late 70’s / early 80’s. Their big break came from winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 with Waterloo. Benny wrote the music and Bjorn wrote the lyrics, Agnetha and Frida share lead lead vocals but the magic happens when they sing together “The 3rd Voice of ABBA”. They have sold over 400 million albums worldwide. Their music is the bases for the musical Mamma Mia and the 2 films Mamma Mia ! (2008) and Mamma Mia Here we go again (2018). They were approached a few years ago to put on new concerts using digital versions of themselves as they were in the 1970’s and as a result of this they decided to record a couple of new songs to be performed as well as their older hits. They enjoyed recording them so much that they decided to do a new album called Voyage which was released on 5th Nov 2021 almost 40 years after their last Album The Visitors and has sold over 2.5 million so far. I suggest you listen to the Greatest Hits Album entitled ABBA GOLD which was 1st album to spend 1,000 weeks on the UK charts enjoying 3 spells at number 1 (1992, 1999 & 2008) and today it is still in the charts. but also listen to their Album songs and b sides because they contain many a hidden gems many that could have been singles.
The 2.5 million cpoies of 'Voyage' you mentioned is only the figure of copies sold on vinyl (!) worldwide so far.. the impact on the download charts has been incredible as well, for instance on spotify it reached the number one spot in over 18 countries.. even in the USA it reached to number two, which hasn't happened with any other album by them over there, ever! 😍
OK, here goes the Swedish for one of the best bands ever!! Jag älskar dem så mycket!! De är så underbart!! ♥...( I love them so much!! They are so wonderful!!....♥....PS: Frida looks like a young Priscilla Presley.....there's nothing I enjoy more than watching these videos of people who have never enjoyed ABBA before....always a pleasure and I've never seen anyone disappointed...If you didn't know Benny (the pianist) and Frida (dark hair) were married, as were Agnetha & Bjorn....Frida was born Norwegian, the product of a Norwegian woman and a German soldier (known as lebensborn children) during WWII.....I believe her mother died young and she was raised in Sweden by her aunt...the children of Norwegian woman and the German soldiers were badly treated by Norway after the war...Frida was lucky and was raised in Sweden....
Well the band was two married couples second Hans wrote most of there stuff but they did a lot of music from other countries and there first big hit was called Waterloo a song they won Eurovision with ,
Forget Waterloo, this is my favourite of ABBA’s! The fraction of a second before the chorus lyrics kick in (I can’t explain it the part properly) is what makes this my favourite.
That was a real chiquitita 🍌 smoothie from '79 .. them gals vocal Dynamics were just crazy through the roof .. I wonder if they knew about that creepy abominable snowman in the background sizing them up ... Chiquitita is the word I used to use to get after my dog when he was doing something that I didn't like his name was Chi .. Chi quit it a but I'm not from Canada or anything 😂
The piano outro has literally become a tictoc meme. People use it as soundtracks for their lives and their success amid trials and tribulations. It's everywhere.
Björn and Benny must have been blessed at some time. Everything they create is magical, so thought through and melodic! And then "the girls", what can you say? Pure perfection! 😍
For most of their songs including this one, Bjorn (the guy on the piano) writes/composes the music and Benny (the guy on the guitar) writes the lyrics.
Chiquitita is spanish for little girl. At the time this song was written Björn Ulvaeus, the man with the guitar, and Agnetha Fältskog, the blond girl, was married to each other and their marriage was starting to fall apart. The rumor has it that the lyrics is about their daughter when they noticed she had noticed something was wrong. This is something Björn denies of course. By the way, the other two in Abba was also a couple.
Olá, sou do Brasil, me dá muita alegria de ver uma jovem como você curtindo e se emocionando com essas músicas da década de 80 que com certeza são as melhores que já existiram.
You shold also react to ABBA - The winner takes it all, from the 80's and about a separation. I think Benny, in ABBA wrote it during a divorce. If you are soft have paper tissues close to you when watching this clip.
uve just discovered one of v bst selling groups ever, n vers a reason 4 it. 2 men write all v music n lyrics, ver wives sing. were huge in v 70s n 80s, hit after hit, enjoy!. like v way u tune into a song, u got a gd ear.
There are dozens of reactions to ABBA's hits but not so many to their lesser known songs which are ALL excellent but some grow on you. You could do worse looking at the alphabetic list of their songs on spotify and picking a song which sounds interesting. In the unlikely event that you fond a song which you do not actually like we would all be interested in why and we could then point you to similar ABBA songs which may grow on you.
They (the guys)wrote all their songs themselves and yes, those voices are magical, especially the combination. their music will stay alive forever. Actually met Frida a couple of times in Sweden (she dated one of our bosses).
You got it all wrong. 1) This is a song written by ABBA in 1979 not Nana Mouskouri in 1974. 2) Nana Mouskouri or Νανά Μούσχουρη is Greek not German and she lives in Greece, in fact very close to where I live. 3) Nana Mouskouri has been a star since 1958 not 1961. 4) Nana Mouskouri did a cover version in 1984. Greetings from Athens, Greece
This is my favourite song of theirs as it is the only one which shows you how powerful the girls' voices were.
Both the men worked on the lyrics and music. Made their own produced music. Musical geniuses.
In 1979, ABBA donated the royalties of this magnificent anthem of hope to UNICEF as a perpetual gift to the children of the world.
Wow! That’s so beautiful 🥹❤️

This song is having a nice, comforting cry in song form.
"Chiquitita" means 'very little girl' (with affection) in spanish
And the melody have a spanish tune, specialy by the acustic guitar
But the center is the wonderful piano, like almost all ABBA songs
"Chiquitita" is a beautiful song, it has hopeful lyrics,
a melody that starts very soft with the blonde Agnetha's solo,
then grows and explodes in a powerful chorus;
Agnetha & Frida's vocal harmonies are of excellence
Agnetha is soprano, Frida is mezzo soprano
It allows us to check how excellent singers Agnetha & Frida are
and what harmonies of excellence they achieve.
It stands out especially when they stretch the monosyllables with great quality and beauty
"Chiquitita" was premiered especially for the UNICEF Concert
(January 9, 1979, just 44 years ago!)
and its royalties are eternal for UNICEF
"Chiquitita" was ABBA's greatest success in Latin America,
that prompted ABBA to record it in Spanish, and its success was so extraordinary,
that in the following year ABBA recorded a full album with their best songs entirely in Spanish
("Chiquitita" in Spanish is the biggest ABBA hit in My country Argentina)
Chiquitita" is in the Top 3 of all ABBA worldwide biggest hits,
with 'Dancing Queen" and "Fernando", and it's a fantastic Masterpiece
These official video was filmed in Swizterland 1979 ,
in the Lysair ski area
when ABBA goes for a TV Special
to the International Year of the Childs
(that's why there's a snowman)
It's the only promotional video that ABBA made without Sweden
ABBA's videos are mostly filmed by Lasse Hallstrom,
and are characterized by taking close-ups of the four members of ABBA,
especially their lead singers Agnetha and Frida
My next suggestion is to
"Fernando" or "Super trouper" (1980)
with the brunette singer Frida in lead voice
I hope to see you soon with more ABBA songs

Chiquitita is the word I used to use to get after my dog when he was doing something that I didn't like his name was Chi .. Chi quit it a but I'm not from Canada or anything 😂
One group sorta like them are the Seekers from Australia. Incredible group with a world class female singer.
When music was still, just beautiful.
Época em que os anjos emprestavam suas vozes.
Just beautiful…
They wrote their own songs surprising in this day and age
just fyi this group out sold the Beatles and the Who and the Stones world wide. Probably the most sold albums world wide than any other band.
No way! Really??
The end is called a "reprise", really wraps the song up nice.
Piano outro: classic rinky-tink piano sound
Sorry for a late response....Im a late ABBA fan.. Beautiful song
You're excellent. TY.
Those blessed times when Mr and Mrs Autotune didn’t existed !. And this incredible Polka beat in the piano solo at the end 😉.
piano player writes the music !!
ALL of ABBA’s songs are ‘original’. Apart from one random, obscure track in 1975, they wrote and produced ALL of their own work
Sick! Perfect.
uve just discovered one of v bst selling groups ever, n vers a reason 4 it. 2 men write all v music n lyrics, ver wives sing. were huge in v 70s n 80s, hit after hit, enjoy!. like v way u tune into a song, u got a gd ear.
Sad topic, but so joyously performed. Gets ya, huh? That ending!
You should react to Duran Duran's "Rio" music video! It's a like a little movie.
I don't know if it's just me, but the piano solo made me think of the Columbia Pictures theme song.
...for me is the end with piano that abba gives litterarly (bokstavligen) Chiqitita one new song❤❤❤ Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪 ABBA'S Home country
Of course it's original ABBA!
Novo inscrito. (Brasil-São Paulo-Interlagos)
Listen THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL and I wanna see how you like it 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Listen to the Spanish version from ABBA
It is from were they come from I think it could be their national tune I'm not shore 😊 JAKX
All the songs are written guy the guitar player.
ABBA never copied other songs.
tiktok
U should listen the Spanish version by then😊
I know you love harmonies, please listen to anything by The Carpenters. Superstar will wilt you
Or I won’t last a day without you, another banger
Ceck out Waterloo
You liked Tom Jones now listen to Engelbert Humperdinck and the Righteous Brothers
More crying reaction
Madonna..... After midnatt, and right the lyric by them selfie....
Try BeeGees
Really good reaction to probably the whitest European band ever LOL
I ❤️ U Mona. Will you marry me? 😊
No I want her only me only me
The original is from Germany by Nana Mouskouri "Chiquitita" from 1974. The woman has been a star since 1961, she wrote it.
