  • On September 6, 2012, the BYU Museum of Art's auditorium and overflow seating were filled to capacity with eager students, faculty, and community members who gathered to hear from the renowned Dr. Seyyed Hossein Nasr. His presentation, Islam: Truth and Beauty, was given in connection to the museum's exhibition Beauty and Belief: Crossing Bridges with the Arts of Islamic Culture to help audience members better understand how the "truth of anything-is always related to beauty." This significant lecture was co-sponsored by BYU's Wheatley Institution as part of its Distinguished Lecture in International Affairs series.

When he was 23, and I was 17, I met Seyyed Hossein Nasr in a classroom, at Harvard University, 1956. With less than a sentence from him, I believed in God; my life was changed forever; I became a Muslim, and followed I'm in becoming a disciple of HIS master, Frithjof Schuon. Now I'm 81 and he must be 87. I see a treasure chest, full of knowledge AND wisdom. He gave me a Real Life, an entry into Truth: therefore, I would forgive absolutely anything, and be grateful forever. It is still ESSENTIAL for all those who admire him, as do I, to realize that he is one of the two main successors of Frithjof Schuon; and he is he only disciple of HIS master, whose actual life was affected by his master. This is exceedingly delicate; but it is necessary to understand Frithjof Schuon and the relationship between the two men, to situate the great Dr. Nasr correctly. Moereover, everyone seeking Truth, needs to understand a spiritual mystery which is in the life and doctrines of Frithjof Schuon. To situate his two main successors, Seyyed Hossein Nasr and Martin Lings (as well as all others) everyone should read at least the home page on this site: frithjofschuon.wordpress.com

Everything made by HIM (God) are beautiful. That's why Muslims doesn't blame God for calamities happened to them. You can find more informations through the writings of Ibn Arabi, Abu Yazid al-Bustami and other Sufistic writings.

@abdulsattarali8220 Stupid person, do you even understand English? Where have I said "you MUST BEAT YOUR WIFE"? Islam makes it LAWFUL to beat your woman if you think she is not obedient - is that from god, the creator of billion galaxies or is that from stupid hateful Bedouin who wants to control their sex-slaves with beating? Islam is pure paganism and slavery from medieval times. It has no place in our modern world.

A most narrow and presumptuous view of art. As if he knows what god has whispered in those awful 'moderns' ears. A pretty pedantic and uninspired talk actually. Lots of opportunity missed in favor of his own narrow view, a view that is actually more inclusive than he may suspect, based on his own very words here. Why do I think that he has no direct experience of God.....

Nasr mentions the "Iranian Revolution" and him being in London when it happened, but he fails to mention that two months before the Shah left Iran, Nasr co-authored an infamously damaging speech (for the Shah -- along with Reza Ghotbi), which fueled the fire of the radical Islamic revolution.
