PASS Jynx: Lovely Kiss makes any Pokemon that would be remotely difficult easy to deal with. PASS Scizor: Has no trouble beating its little brother to get past Bugsy. Fury Cutter is key to getting past Rival 2's Quilava and its 4x damage. PASS Scyther: Using Focus Energy and Leer, it can beat its counterpart on Bugsy's team with crit luck. After that, it can basically take a page from Bugsy and Fury Cutter past Rival 2. PASS Magmar: Completely roasts the Bug gym of course. Rival 2's Croconaw can be beaten just by inflicting a burn for the extra damage. PASS Magby: Needs some Mud-Slaps to deal with the well Rockets due to its low defenses. Burning Bugsy's Scyther allows it to get the gym badge, and Mud-Slap accuracy strats can allow it to get past Rival 2's Croconaw. PASS Electabuzz: Thunderpunch quickly strikes Bugsy down, and getting paralysis on Rival 2's Bayleef keeps it in check and allows Electabuzz to win even without Swift. PASS *Previously had to use Struggle Final Results: PASS: 14 (1 former STRUGGLE) FAIL: 5 Bonus: Pinsir w/Flail: A well-timed Flail deals with Bugsy's Scyther if it can get into the right damage range. Needs to win speed ties against Quilava, at which point Fury Cutter can beat it and thus Rival 4. Blissey you absolutely shouldve kept spamming softboiled after getting off a lot of growls. you could definitely PP stall it out of fury cutters. this one needs a retry. also glad to see you back and that your son is doing well.
I am willing to try more, but the issue is that the Fury Cutter damage builds too much to heal past it and the Growls don't do enough to reduce the damage multiplier

I think you definitely need a fury cutter miss on the first pass, but on your fail attempt, you could have used softboiled on fury cutter 3 to heal back up to full instead of staying at 63 hp. Then, fury cutter 4 did 55 damage, which meant if you took it at full health and softboiled again, you'd still be at full health. Fury cutter 5 would have dealt approximately 110 damage, which means you have a good shot at living a -6 full power fury cutter at full health, and reset the fury cutter chain in the process, because (I think) fury cutter resets after 5 successful attacks. You'd be down to 3 softboiled pp by this point, which could be a problem if you don't have the damage output required to ko the blissey before the chain reaches a fifth cutter the next time around. Also note that fury cutter only has a 77% chance to hit five times in a row. The odds of a miss breaking the combo is reasonably high, though you'd still need to get lucky.
@@redwings13400I don't think fury cutter resets though. If I remember correctly it gets to a maximum power of 160 and stays at it until you miss with it. But yeah, the chance of breaking the combo is pretty decent. Stalling until it breaks is a potentially good strat.

I think you have grown a lot as both a player and content creator since you started this series. I'm also super excited to see what happens with Whitney because the pokemon get a lot tougher, but there is also a ton of more move variety so it will certainly be interesting. Glad to see there should be well over 100 pokemon in the running for the next section too.

Type boosting items are only necessary if you need to knock out foes with one hit less. Minimum battles with Pichu deserves a second chance with the Pink Bow and Swift.
I see a couple people saying to retry Blissy, I agree with them. Youre able to set up growls to reduce the damage some BUT the one thing you didnt try is mud slap. After you get in your 2-4 growls you started using pound. More damage but mud slap would make the syther miss more breaking up the damage chain. Honestly might even be more effective than growl overall at conserving HP
Before watching, I'm fairly certain Rhyhorn and Horsea will fail because of the rival. Seadra might get bumped by the rival as well. Snubble may not have the stats to push through (although bite might get it through). Other than that, rest of the lineup gets through.
When it comes to Return, will you max friendship before Whitney? Normally you wouldn't have max friendship yet in "normal" solo play, but it is abusable, since taking steps does increase friendship.
Yeah, Bugsy and Rival 2 are tough on Minimum battles! Speaking of, as a new channel member, you get to choose a Pokemon to try to save with egg moves! let me know your pick!
SPOLIERS Poor rhydon. No way I'm seeing it get by, its learnset is rough and there aren't good TMs at this point. Even with egg moves there's nothing, as reversal's a 2HKO at 1 HP (which cannot crit), and counter won't help as razor leaf one-shots. oh well, how the cookie crumbles for some of these solid pokemon!

This summer has been insane with the heat! Some days I can't really move from in front of the fan and under the air conditioner. Holding the baby make me feel even hotter, but my wife won't let me put the air conditioner lower....

Maybe 5 on cacoona 5 on scyther, fury cuter should only have 35%ish accuracy at that point, combine that with growls and softboil. Might have a chance of getting through, this does very slightly increase risk of poison but only by a few % . Fury cuter doesn't look like it's really a problem until 4th hit, which it's extremely unlikely to get if you can survive setting up mud slaps
what would rhydon need to get through. Megahorn is still a 2hko and i'm not even sure if it gets that this gen. horn drill and pray for a 1/20 and a 3/10 in the same turn?

I was just wondering if blissey were to get headbutt at the ilex forest before the bugsy fight, will the 105 attack power from headbutt be enough to secure the win against scyther or will the fury cutter be too problematic for blissey to handle? Awwww...I was hoping Rhydon might be able to find a way through. At least I can say that Showdown's damage calculator for Gen 2 is worthless, it just doesn't give accurate results at all (it was suggesting, with a lot of dubious adjustment to try to match the stats, that Rhydon would survive a Razor Leaf from full health). It lends me to wondering, though, about the policy of stacking the deck against yourself with the rival selection. I get that you're generally trying to showcase a 'worst case scenario' situation, hence the focus on 0 DVs in full runs, but this minimum battles series has been more about the BEST case scenario, with max DVs. Is there a reason that the rival matchup remains the worst possible matchup even considering that? (Apart from trying to actually whittle things down in some fashion because there's already a large list to get to for the next section.)
It's basically to mimic the fact that in a normal run he always chooses the starter that is strong against yours. That said, we could try a Pokemon or two against the different starters to see how it would end up

mud slap can not hit scyther
Mud Slap is ground type, so it can't affect a Flying-type like Scyther.
